Favorite JP moments in The Astonishing
« on: February 05, 2016, 01:33:01 PM »
Since Jordan got his own thread too...

Mine:
From 2:25 to 2:56 in Dystopian Overture

A Life Left Behind intro

For some reason that little bend at 5:25 in Ravenskill

Heaven's cove where the guitar sounds like OTBOA

A New Beginning Outro

The Path That Divides 3:59-4:05

These are the ones that I can think of now
Seasons change and so can I

Our New World main riff and the intro of A Savior in the Square, although I guess that they are kind of the same thing  :lol

Chosen.  Nice solo, and all the little guitar flourishes throughout are really nice as well.

Yep.  That one is nice.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

A New Beginning- pretty much everything. I feel like its the only song where they really let loose of everything they have, and sound like a more standard DT, which I love. Fast riffs with lots of fills, greats and unison and then that majestic solo.

Other than that, I love all his solos, as I usually am. A Better Life, When Your Time has Come, and Chosen stand out for me.

Oh and TGoM and MoB, I always forget about them cause we got used to them.

Oh and Three days riffs! And Heavens Cove intro! and Our New World! Damnit there is just so much! ;D

Act of Faythe - all of the little guitar leads and fills from 2:20 - 3:30
A New Beginning - the wah soloing, and the arpeggio lead riff from 1:28 or so
Our New World - the riff and the solo
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

The outro to A New Beginning easily. That would also be my choice for best JM section as well as favorite part of the album overall. Good god that outro is amazing.

If this were a poll, A New Beginning outro would win this, hands down.

The Path That Divides 3:59-4:05
Also, this is absolutely incredible. I'm so glad someone pointed out this tiny section, it's awesome. As with Jordan bits, I could go on listing amazing moments for a while - after all, we're talking about over two hours of guitar brilliance.

Agree, nice way to reference the same theme too.

The solo in A New Beginning is right up with Voices and BAI as my favourite ever JP solo. Another one I love is the solo in When Your Time Has Come. I can picture Gabriel (this being his song to impress the royal family) suddenly breaking out an electric guitar and just letting rip in the public square of Ravenskill.

One that hasn't been mentioned.
The closing note of Astonishing.  Sweet subtle harmonic on a powerful low D.  A big boy note.  :metal

There's probably a reason for that. ;)

Yes, it's a big boy note, but throwing that in there at the end sounds a little...strange.

Outro of A New Beginning. One of the best moment of the band's career.

Yeah, at this point, A New Beginning outro is all I can think of.  That's pretty much the only thing that stands out to me.............at this point.

I've been drinking beer since I was 18 and dabbled since I was 16. I have at least 500 beer bottles in my collection and love the fancy shit though my wallet doesn't. I'll drink liquor not even five times a year including shots or mixed drinks. Jack Daniels and Coke is an easy go-to for me. Very smooth nads candy sweet.

That and the riffs from Moment of Betrayal.
