I was listening to a little bit of Octavarium tonight, and I realized that I joined DT.net after Octavarium was released. That was about 10 years ago for me,  because I joint DT.net around April 2006  mainly so I could share how awesome my first dream theater concert experience was.  Technically, I guess you could say it didn't directly influenced me to join here, but with no live albums preceeding that, the release of Octavarium did cause me to join.

It got me to thinking, this forum and it's community have been around for much longer than that. So I was wondering about what album caused members to come to this forum (or .net, or ezboard) and join the community.

Someone told me that 1999 was when ezboard started, I could be wrong, so I'm starting with SFAM. Let me know if it was around before that but somehow I doubt it.
I don’t know what to put here anymore

I chose ADTOE only because that was the first album cycle that arrived after I'd joined. More than anything, the breakup and the drama over at the "purple place" is what drove me here. I'd lurked as a guest off and on for a couple of years prior.

None that i think of but i joined between the Systematic Chaos and Black Clouds releases. Probably the answer should have been Black Clouds but i already voted 'None' now  :loser:

I joined because I'd been a DT fan for years and I'd been following the forum for ages and then decided it was time to join  :metal

I won´t lie to you. It was A Dramatic Turn of Events.

As I said before, the last three albums from DT were, for me, the sonic equivalent of watching the paint drying on the wall. With a hammer being hit over my head and two poodles biting my ankles at the same time. Herman´s Hermit any time of the day, it´s what I say.

But when I learnt that Mr. Portnoy left the band, the sky was blue again... a beautiful rainbow appeared among the clouds... the birds were singing and everything was all right again. So I joined the forum!

And everything is amazing.

8VM and SC were the first albums I got into so I guess those? But Awake and SFAM were the two that kept me around  :lol

I would say the same.   Massive fan of the band since 1992 but my interest in new releases had gradually waned to the point of being almost non-existent until ADTOE brought the melody/"songs" back.

None-

I was looking for a Dream Theater CHAT ROOM...

Thank God I never FOUND one, because I don't write fast enough to keep up in one of those!

No album "caused" me to join.  But in terms of timing, I joined between SFAM and 6DOIT around the time LSFNY was released.

I joined right before Score was released. My love for the band was peaking around that time, and I didn't have any friends in to them, or their genre of music, to chat with.

I jumped on board after Black Clouds (but before MP leaving), but I was exposed to them here and there for at least another 5 years prior to that but wasn't paying enough attention.

It wasn't any album for me. I joined last year, because I've decided to try out a forum on my #1 band, after being a fan since around 2007. Well, let me correct myself - I joined because my wife joined first and I was full of envy  ;D

I came on board a few weeks before BC&SL was released in order to ask a question about the box set shipping. And I stuck around shortly thereafter

Well, I joined a few months before ToT released, but it was SDOIT that caused me to think "WHO THE FUCK WANTS TO TALK ABOUT THIS SHIT WITH MEEEE!?"

...and then I lurked for like three years.  :lol Didn't really start discussing until after the fall of .net and the rest is insane history and bipolar disorder.

Little did I know that I'd be reconnecting with the song that really got me into DT, The Glass Prison, years later because I finally had to admit I was an alcoholic and pretty much had my reckoning and subsequent emotional breakdown upon hearing that song play again and realizing it. Truly...one of the moments in my life that will be burned into my mind until I die. It was a full circle thing for me... It got me into DT, and I had no idea at the time what it was about. Found out what it was about a couple years later and paid no attention to it... Then began reading the AA bible about a year ago and realized...holy fucking shit...this...is it. Where it began. Also around the time I started drinking.

...Made me believe in something more.

...I'm doing a lot of "THAT WAS TOO MUCH INFORMATION FOR THE QUESTION POSTED" these days. God damn it.

SDOIT. IT WAS SDOIT OKAY!?

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"
RIP DTP.

I'm probably off considerably with my guess here, but I think I was like #8 registering on the old EZ board. I didn't post at all for a long time, as there didn't seem to be too many members. I don't recall exactly when that was, but it was before Google. I want to say it was right after Awake came out. I may be wrong, but it was early on for sure.

Other, I joined the original DT forum shortly before Score was released.  I had just started listening to DT and knowing they had a bunch of live DVDs, I joined the old forum to post a thread about a DVD recommendation.  I remember overwhelming being told to wait until Score came out, which I did and then came over to DTF after I came back to that forum and realized it was gone.

None, I joined on the June 1st 2012. That makes it in-between ADTOE and DT12. I discovered this forum when MP quit and I lurked for a long time then one day I decided that this forum doesn't need my input but I joined nonetheless.
