Here's something a lot better. I'll include some data here. I'm comparing the ratings of albums between people 30 or younger and people older than 30 (about a 60/40 split in the survey). The columns below are the albums, the average ratings for each of the two age groups, and the p-value, which for non-stats nerds, is basically the probability that the difference between the two averages happened simply by chance. If that number is lower that .05, then I can make the claim that the actual average ratings from the two groups are indeed different.

Code: [Select]
Album <= 30 > 30 P-value
WDADU 5.19 5.10 0.353
I&W 9.07 9.01 0.361
Awake 8.33 8.50 0.189
FII 6.94 7.09 0.203
SFAM 9.29 9.38 0.239
SDOIT 8.96 8.62 0.007 <--!!
TOT 7.69 7.48 0.122
8VM 7.88 7.60 0.071
SC 6.30 6.43 0.274
BC&SL 6.50 6.75 0.127
ADTOE 7.76 7.83 0.353
DT12 6.87 7.18 0.075
TA 8.14 8.09 0.424

Although a lot of us probably think there are many differences between these two groups, the data show only one significant difference: The younger crowd likes SDOIT more.  :P

I'm late to the party but I really felt that I needed to listen multiple times to take it all in.  I LOVE IT!

There are a few parts that seem to be a bit slow but that might change.  I specifically was looking for these "slow" parts during a session last night and upon careful examination the "slow" part were appropriate and I enjoyed them more knowing that they should be there.

I'm finding plenty of the harder/metal type sections to satisfy me, which was a concern due to the reviews before it was released.

Clearly, this is a phenomenal performance by James, as others have said.  I'm not usually into DT vocals but this release has changed that.

I also think it's the PERFECT time for this type of release.  Funny because you'd think with the luke warm response that DT12 got that they would have decided to do something big, but JP was already working on it.  I think sometimes we just need to trust them, they know what they're doing. :)

This development is way more upsetting than any potential disappointment I might feel at finally finding out what the fucking NOMACS eyes do. What do they do?! Why aren't we being told?!

Obviously, once the correct number/sequence of eye clicks were completed, the NOMAC summoned robwebster.

Im surprised to see ADTOE got such a low score. I was sure it was more highly regarded here.

Nice work here.  But what happened to Six Degrees?

I forgot it, which in turn caused all those to be off my one album.

Here's the corrected data:

Code: [Select]
Album <= 30 > 30 P-value
WDADU 5.19 5.10 0.353
I&W 9.07 9.01 0.361
Awake 8.33 8.50 0.189
FII 6.94 7.09 0.203
SFAM 9.29 9.38 0.239
SDOIT 8.96 8.62 0.007 <--!!
TOT 7.69 7.48 0.122
8VM 7.88 7.60 0.071
SC 6.30 6.43 0.274
BC&SL 6.50 6.75 0.127
ADTOE 7.76 7.83 0.353
DT12 6.87 7.18 0.075
TA 8.14 8.09 0.424

So actually it's SDOIT that the younger people like more. Go figure.

Which of course also means I messed up with the last test I posted.  :lol Here's the accurate data:

Code: [Select]
Album Rating Avg Pr P Avg Me P Avg Po P
WDADU 5.16 5.18 0.436 5.80 0.098 4.63 0.223
I&W 9.05 9.15 0.123 8.13 0.003 8.63 0.142
Awake 8.39 8.45 0.296 8.13 0.220 7.50 0.064
FII 7.00 6.86 0.094 6.88 0.362 6.88 0.394
SFAM 9.32 9.40 0.168 9.00 0.103 9.38 0.446
SDOIT 8.83 8.72 0.081 9.00 0.241 8.38 0.059
TOT 7.61 7.64 0.394 8.56 0.0001 6.75 0.033
8VM 7.77 7.66 0.149 7.56 0.248 7.38 0.233
SC 6.35 6.17 0.088 6.87 0.140 5.88 0.244
BC&SL 6.60 6.50 0.220 7.27 0.082 6.13 0.216
ADTOE 7.78 7.81 0.388 7.07 0.049 7.13 0.084
DT12 6.99 6.91 0.270 6.73 0.292 7.38 0.310
TA 8.12 7.93 0.094 7.88 0.276 8.13 0.497

That means the significant bits are as follows:

  • People who answered Metal rate I&W lower.
  • People who answered Metal rate TOT higher.
  • People who answered Metal rate ADTOE lower.
  • People who answered Pop/Melodic rate TOT lower.

That makes way more sense.  :rollin

That makes so much more sense. :lol

Implode, with the age one, I'd be really interested in seeing it broken down by the 5-year blocks the survey asked about, but maybe starting with <20 and going up to >40. That should give reasonable enough sample sizes.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.
