Whahibrido pickingant, lots of it.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

What's the point of a solo album if you're going to bring other musicians on board? JP drum solo for the win!!!

He's already done a couple of new songs live, they'll likely be in the next solo album... to me they sound like a bit like old JP-LTE inspired stuff, with a modern twist.

EDIT 2: Oh, it's the wahibrìdo pickinghant thread all over again...

Duh,  The Astonishing is his next solo album,  he wrote basically the whole thing,  the songs he did live were just written to play live for g3 so he had something new. That's just my opinion but it's kind of obvious he's been putting all effort into The Astonishing.

He said in a recent interview that he's also finished writing songs for his next solo album that should be coming soon after The Astonishing. I'll post the link if I find it.

It isn't. He didn't.

The story is his, yes, but the music he mainly co-wrote it with Rudess. Also, it's a DT album, in which although Myung, LaBrie and Mangini don't have any formal 'writing credits' it's a band effort in which everyone put a piece of themselves in it.

That dynamic is complex enough to discard it as a JP 'solo' album.

And now, within the subject matter, I for one cannot wait for it. I'm guessing that after 'The Astonishing Live' the band will take a well-deserved short break in which, hopefully, JP can get his mind out of DT for a while and record his material. I saw him live in the G3 tour back in 2012 and the new material was amazing. I've always thought JP's solo music has an incredible balance between riffy, heavily rhythmical sections and melodic bliss. Suspended Animation is awesome, and I'm crossing my fingers so it happens sometime throughout 2017 or 2018.

Would love to hear  Marco Minnemann playing JP's solo stuff (he already was invited to play with him in G3's 2012 shows but Minnemann was busy with The Aristocrats at the time)

Good, nowadays i dismiss every guitarplayer who cant play whahibrido pickingant... It's objectively the best way to play guitar.

I still can't get over that Cloud Ten's main riff is the Scotty Doesn't Know riff.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

I didn't know where it was from, but felt it was some punk styled riff from somewhere.  :D

After looking, Sum 41 - Still Waiting shares a similar sound to me, in a different key and tempo. I guess this is must be a common punk progression and/or interval or something.

Speaking of Sum 41, the riff is also basically The Hell Song's prechorus melody.

The ideal balance is both more erent, but also less erent, at the same time.
