Childhood's End
« on: December 19, 2015, 07:21:48 AM »
Anyone else watching or already watched this series on SyFy?

I just finished the first episode. That was pretty crazy.

Got it in the DVR recordings. It looks interesting and I'm a sucker for sci fi. I may power through it in succession tonight.

I hope I can finish it soon. Too many things to watch, too little time.

That right there.  This, and The Expanse interest me, but I have very little time available.  Might wait until it comes out on Netflix or some other on-demand service next year, and binge watch them when I do have time on my hands.

Well, the good thing about this one is that it's a three night series....not an entire season. The EXPANSE is pretty good (thus far through two episodes) so that's going to take more effort to stay on top of. Heck, I still haven't watched the final season of Continuum.....

I've yet to get the chance to view...but it's encouraging to see the endorsement. Hoping some time frees up soon....but I'm in the midst of completing a home made Christmas gift for my bro in law and it's eating up all my free time.

Two episodes in, about to watch the third.

Very strong adaptation, in my opinion. They've changed a fair few of the details and timescales in order to modernise and/or streamline things for TV, but the main thrust of it seems reasonably faithful and very well paced.

Finished episode 2.  Holy shit.

I will try my hardest to catch episode 3 tomorrow morning.

IMHO, this is far and away the best thing that SyFy has ever had their hands in.

Wow... quite the endorsement.  Guess I'll make time for it over the coming weeks while on PTO.

I typically do not like SyFy offerings.  They seem to rely on amateurish writing, wooden acting, and cheesy special effects (just my two cents).

But THIS is fantastic.  THIS is what a channel called SyFy should be doing - adapting the classics of science fiction and spending enough money on it that it looks like the people making it actually gave a damn about the production.

The Expanse also looks interesting, and I will check it out soon.  Also, upcoming show The Magicians looks very interesting as well.

Finally finished the series. Wow, that was awesome. I can't recommend this highly enough.

I can't believe they got Charles Dance to wear that makeup.

I thought they did the ending really nicely - some differences but totally captured how devastating it was in the book. Gorgeous stuff.

And Charles Dance was great.

Have you read the book, G? Definitely not a happy ending, but a beautiful one nonetheless.

No I have not. I think I got the gist of it as far as mankind 'evolving' and becoming a part of that collection of conscience....and I liked it. Like I said, it was a very balanced story and it stayed true to itself, meaning...it was consistent with how they were telling the story and leading us along. It didn't really take a massive right turn anywhere.

But I think the 'Christian' in me was just waiting for the Overlord to say 'gotcha', I'm the devil  :lol

I have watched the first 2 parts and I'll likely watch the 3rd tonight cause I'm a loser and that's the kind of thing I do on New Years Eve!
In any event, this is really good on many levels. It is mind blowing to think that if something like this were to happen, I could see a lot of stuff unfold like it is.
I'm pumped for part 3

Definitely one of the best things ScyFy has ever done. I have never read the book either, but I definitely want to now to see the differences

I was impressed with this show. I'm just as impressed with 'The Expanse' and how good it's been. glad to finally have another SyFy series that I can 'look forward' to watching.

Mrs.Jingle and I watched this over the past few nights.  Never read the book.

I dunno... we went to bed, and I said to her "Sorry I put you through that.  DTF told me it was awesome".   :lol

If that's the best that SyFy has to offer, I have no words.  I think the execution and acting was great, the main story arc has some interesting aspects, but the weaving together of all the parts felt like a community quilt.  No cohesion.

That's just me though.

In terms of characters, it's actually a lot more cohesive than the book. :lol Character was never Clarke's strong point.
