The EXPANSE
« on: December 16, 2015, 07:28:00 AM »
Anyone watching? I've seen the first two episodes and it's very promising. I've liked it a lot....and actually enjoyed the way they just throw you in to the stories. It's like they assumed you 'knew' what has been going on prior to entering the show....but at the same time they are doing good at giving enough info. to build a character yet aren't being over the top. Also, it's very well done as far as production. Seems like it'll be a good show.....

DVR'd it.  I told Blob about it since he's all Sci-fi'eeeeeeee and stuff.

I've only seen the first episode so far. Mostly checking it out because I love Daniel Abraham's (one of the two authors who make up James SA Corey) The Dagger and Coin Fantasy series. I've read a bit of the first book (and will read more as soon as the library gets it back in) and I have to aay the prologue worked much better in that format
Very disturbing, as opposed to the TV show version where I had no idea wtf was supposed to be happening :lol. Oh well books are always better and I'll definitely keep watching.

Just seen the first episode so far, and it seems pretty good. Obviously impossible to properly judge so early on, but definite potential.

Really digging how this has been going so far. The first episode was a little shaky, but it's just been getting better as it goes on.

I'm all in. Like you said, it gets better with each episode and it's been picked up for a second season already. It's really well done and the story just keeps evolving. Very cool show.

Just heard they made the series.  I have read the first 3 books though a couple years ago.  Reading #4 now :)  I'll have to start on the show for sure!!

So I read the entire first book between the previous episode and today's... Most of the changes seem pretty inconsequential but it's strange how they're being pretty faithful with Holden's storyline but throwing a bunch of random crap into Miller's.

Saw the first 2 episodes and am really impressed with it so far.  EXCELLENT job tracking the first book.   All the small details, like cultural mannerisms and language, seem to be really well translated from book to screen.

It's been a couple years since I read Leviathan Wakes, but so far in the first couple episodes Miller seems right on point to me.  About every scene I see him in jives with my recollection of him at the start.

It's later on it really starts to veer, you'll see.

That being said, I'm still enjoying the show. Having started on the second book, though, I'm a little disappointed in how they toned down Avasarala's...  colourful language.

Yeah... :lol  I've mentioned that to a couple peeps I've talked too.  I don't think her "Book" language would be a big hit for the SyFy crowd... :lol

Book 1 Spoilers:

Pacing seems on track to end season 1 at Eros, which is what I expected them to do. However they missed some opportunities with the episode names... the season finale is called "Leviathan Wakes", obviously should have been called "Meat for the Machine". "Leviathan Wakes" should be when Eros dodges Nauvoo.

Finally started watching the first two episodes and it's great so far. A show right up my alley and to be honest even though I love the genre both as movies and games I usually avoid sci-fi shows like this because the production is usually questionable sadly. So far this seems like a good mix between great CGI, characters and plot.

There are a couple guys here who've read the books. I haven't, but I've loved this show. The (2) Hour finale is this week and I can't see how it won't be great being that all the other episodes have been.

Pretty much where I expected the season to end. I've got some gripes (mostly of the "What was the point of that, exactly?" variety. For example: Why did we already meet Avasarala when she hasn't done anything important? Why did we need the cyborg dude, exactly?) but overall it was good. Looking forward to next season.

I agree. Very good start...they've done a real good job at creating several compelling characters. I dig the underlying plight between Earth and Mars and then the whole added aspect of this 'experiment'....it's been a good show. Production quality is great as well.

So far season 2 is NOT disappointing!!!  :tup  Man I love this show!!  Really like how they're explaining the protomolocule.  Honestly, while I understood it in the books, I get a better grasp now of what it is.

If your a Sci Fi fan and not watching this show you need to do yourself a favor and get in on it. Such a good show that cares about character development, content, production value....it's just the real deal.

Agreed.  All things considered (writing, directing, acting, effects, consistency, etc), these two seasons may be the best first two seasons of any sci-fi show ever.

I never use hyperbole.

Excited for tomorrow's season finale!  They've been great at keeping to the story (books) if they keep that trend going tomorrow and the season 3 premiere should both be good :)

Same here. Didn't even know the books existed....but this show is great!! Was happy to see that this was picked up for season three recently as I read an article a month or so ago saying it was in danger of being cancelled by SyFy. Which made sense because SyFy cancels all their good programming and replaces it with crap like Wynona Earp.
