Independence Day 2

I don't care what anyone says.

I enjoyed the heck out of the original one. This looks like a good fun summer sci fi.

I hope it's as fun as the original and not JUST disaster porn like 2012 - which was just terrible.

I like the original enough for a Roland Emmerich film. It's not as bad as Godzilla, and definitely not as bad as some of his recent films, but it's not one of the all time best blockbusters either. Still, with several of the cast back, mainly Goldblum as the protagonist, I will definitely give it a chance. Goldblum is entertaining in everything, and hopefully this has some cool ideas behind all the CGI action schlock.

Aside form the Jingoism, the virus and Brent Spiner overacting - I don't see what was so bad about the first one... :)

I enjoyed the first as a kid and liked it when I saw it again a few years ago. This looks fun but I doubt I'll enjoy it as much as the first, which is to say it might end up being a mere boredom killer for a rainy day. Which is fine. CGI porn with some nice nostalgia sprinkled on top for the peeps that saw it when it came out; I liked the few nods to the first one already seen in the trailer but I fear that by the time the movie ends that is all it's going to be aside from a few failed attempts to be original...might as well go all the way if you're coat tailing off nostalgia to begin with in a movie that amounts to fan-service. But anything with Goldblum in it is never bad. That is as much of a fact as Goldblum being our one True Savior and Holder Of The Light. Praise be to Goldblum. Those who bloom are gold. Amen.

I think this movie is going to suck and I couldn't be more excited to see it. I've been waiting for this for sool long. The ID Facebook page has been super active the last year and a half posting all kinds of behind the scenes stuff. I can't wait.

Yeah, there is no way this movie is going to be good. If it is, I'll be so surprised. That said, I love the original. It's a great, big, dumb ol' action movie and a ton of fun. This one doesn't look like fun at all.  :-\

Production aside, this looks like a terrible fan fiction sequel. The fact that they used "the speech" from the first movie to try to sell this one is incredibly lame on top of the fact that they used the same shot twice in the trailer (shadow over the boat). This is pretty clearly a nostalgia cash-grab and that fact alone makes its existence deplorable in my mind.

They also reused a shot of Goldblum turning to face the camera. :\

Even though I guess I like it, I never cared much for the original, so it's not like this new one could ruin anything close to my heart. So I'm definetely interested in seeing this, although I did not watch the trailer.

Also, I knew that this movie was coming, but I did not realize that they were this far into production.

It seems darker to me for some reason.

I thinking it's going to be a blood bath. In the first movie we were told "they're like locusts". They go from planet to planet consuming all the natural resources. I'm assuming the first round of ships were a small fraction of what that alien race has. For all we know, that first round of ships were just the exterminators. Those guys come in and clear the planet of life, and then the rest of the civilization shows up a little while later. The first time, the aliens hostility was for the resources. This time around, it's for revenge.

It looks interesting and Jeff Goldblum is in it which is good and Will Smith isn't in it which is even better. Is the black guys name Token?

I remember reading way back when (I'm talking 2-2.5 years ago) that two scripts were written for this movie. One with Will Smith and one without. Will wanted some ridiculous sum of money as well as a lead role for his kid. Will was not chosen for the cast.

That kind of obnoxiousness is unnecessary. I'm glad they left him out.

If that is the actual price it's one of those things which makes you lose all respect for an actor.

50m dollars would be more than enough money for anyone.

Let alone 50m dollars for every movie you do.

Will needs to accept the fact that his son is not a good actor, plus he's just an odd person. Wonder how much that's Jada's doing? Plus, why does he need all that money? Just for the principle of it?

Well, this is nothing new. Movies have gotten so expensive that Hollywood doesn't want to take unnecessary risks. Anything with brand recognition is safer. So now most of what we see coming out are things from existing IP's, reboots, remakes, and fraudulent sequels made 20 years later for no reason.

To be fair - they always wanted to do a sequel but Emmerich and Dean Devlin could never find the time.

Plus they said they wanted to wait to make sure that it lived up to the first one. :dunno:

Could all be talk but i've been hearing a bout a sequel on and off since the first one.

It's not like they suddenly decided to dig this franchise up this year.

Also, I think it's really cool that this much time has gone by. For one thing, It'd likely take the rest alien civilization some time to get here. It would be very unlikely if we took them out only to have more show up in the weeks later. Also, we get to see the cast age in real time.

I'm really anxious to see how they handle the Freedom Tower. To my knowledge, it hasn't been destroyed in a movie yet. Also, are we going to see a new White House?

They probably built a new one and included a force field.

Very interesting thought. It's not a legit landmark until it's destroyed in a movie!

This is something I definitely agree with, and speaking of Goldblum, I thought it was a shame that he didn't pop up just for one scene in Jurassic World. Sometimes it's great to get moving on a sequel right away, but there is something magical about these late sequels that arrive 15-20 years later with some of the big names returning, because seeing them again and seeing them play that role again just takes you back in time.

That'd be so sick. An alien ship comes in and positions itself over the WH  just like in the first movie, only to fire and have a giant blue ball of safety shield it.

They can't defeat it with a virus this time. Gonna have to dock and install Windows Vista. Or OSX Mavericks.
