I go to shops, but there are also record shows that I try to get to... my brother and I travel on occasion to them(since he's the vinyl collector of the two of us).  Pretty cool to check out.

In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

We were given a really nice record player out of the blue about 6 years ago, but our family still had one before that. I love vinyl. With both my parent's collections pooled together, there's so much choice. I remember listening to the White Album every day I came home from preschool.

My mom also owns so much Genesis, it's crazy. I don't have everything on CD, but she has EVERYTHNIG of theirs on vinyl.  :metal

I've been to some of these on this list. These shows are nowhere near as good as they used to be, but they can be fruitful if you're patient enough to look through everything.

Wow, this album had been previously erased from my consciousness.

I'm sure this has been reissued on CD as part of something bigger (The Works Live album?) This has a very pretentious picture of the inside of the top of a stadium, doesn't it? What's the track listing?

Bump'd! :D

One of the coolest things about Vinyl is you won't believe some of the deals you'll find. Just go to a record store and you'll find a TON of albums you probably wouldn't buy for full price, but for $1-4 you can get on Vinyl and check out.

Anyway, if you're a Floyd fan, you can't go wrong with the Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Edition vinyl.  That's as good a place as any to start off your collection :).

Also, I've been trying to decide between getting the 30th anniversary version or find a good condition one from 1973. How does it sound?

Here's my collection so far:

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers-Moanin'
The Beatles-Abbey Road
Billy Joel-The Stranger
Bruce Springsteen-Born in the U.S.A.
Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run
Bruce Springsteen-Darkness on the Edge of Town
Bruce Springsteen-Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ
Bruce Springsteen-Nebraska
Bruce Springsteen-The River
Bruce Springsteen-The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle
Chicago-Chicago Transit Authority
The Dear Hunter-Act III: Life and Death
Devin Townsend Project-Addicted
Devin Townsend Project-Ki
Fleetwood Mac-Live
Genesis-Second's Out
Herbie Hancock-Headhunters
Jethro Tull-Thick as a Brick
Journey-Escape
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Gold and Platinum Band
Mastodon-Blood Mountain
Mastodon-Crack the Skye
The Moody Blues-Days of Future Passed
Muse-Absolution
Opeth-My Arms, Your Hearse
Peter Gabriel-So
Pink Floyd-Dark Side of the Moon
Radiohead-In Rainbows
Rush-A Farewell to Kings
Rush-Power Windows
Weather Report-Heavy Weather
Yes-Close to the Edge
Yes-The Yes Album

Thats just off the top of my head.  My Arms, Your Hearse is probably the best-sounding album I have on vinyl.  Everything just sounds fuller than on the CD, and In Rainbows tends to be the LP I reach for when I want to use my record player but don't know what to listen to.

Bump'd! :D
One of the coolest things about Vinyl is you won't believe some of the deals you'll find. Just go to a record store and you'll find a TON of albums you probably wouldn't buy for full price, but for $1-4 you can get on Vinyl and check out.

Totally this. Last weekend I picked up a near mint copy of Iron Maiden debut (Fame re-issue) for £2.50. Listening to it now, it sounds sooooo good compared to the CD remaster I had before. The bottom end is just perfect. :D

Yeah this is definitely true, but the biggest problem is that a lot of those really cheap vinyl are a bit too good to be true.  I was browsing a store once, found a copy of 2112 for $4.  I got really excited, then I saw all the scratches on the disc and didn't buy it.

Lateralus on vinyl actually disappointed me a bit. I'd love to get some Kool and The Gang, some DMB and a LOT of PT ones though. And Toto IV might actually be amazing on it.

As soon as burning shed gets LBS back in stock on vinyl I'm buying it.  Good to know Lateralus is disappointing.  I've considered buying the cool picture disc version of it before, but backed out because of price.

Yeah, LBS would be my first pick, it seems like the perfect fit for vinyl. I can't put my finger on what was disappointing about Lateralus, as the mix on the CD is already atrocious. Apparently the vinyl did have a different mix though, maybe it was just even worse. Have you got your eye on any more Springsteen vinyls yet SDN?

Also, Summer Madness by Kool And The Gang is the best vinyl song I've heard yet that's not jazz.

My dad has Tunnel of Love in the attic, but I'm not a big fan of that one.  All the Springsteen vinyl I've managed to find have been either albums I already have or Working on a Dream.  PT and Rush vinyl are what I'm really looking for right now.

EDIT: just checked Burning Shed and LBS is available on vinyl!  FUCK YES *buys*
DOUBLE EDIT: Oh fuck me this is expensive.  Not using my debit card for anything for a while after this.  Yeesh.

I own a good 30 records. I love going to used record stores and finding great deals. My most prized record right now is my mexican pressing on Led Zeppelin 1. Such good condition..

Holy crap, that's a lot. How is LBS? Also, is Big Whiskey good on vinyl? It doesn't seem like a natural fit for it but I can imagine some tracks, specifically LITHOG, being great.

LBS is great! The packaging itself on that vinyl is very nice too, its definitely one of those albums covers that needs to be in the 12x12 inch setup. Big Whiskey is ok, but I think it was aimed as more of a collector's item than as an actual listening medium. To be honest, I didn't notice any significant difference between the CD and the vinyl.... but then again I usually don't on newer releases.

Nice, I'm still not regretting spending so much on it, which can only be a good thing.  :D I really want to get my hands on a Before These Crowded Streets vinyl, I'm sure that would be incredible on it.

Vinyl got brought up today in Music Theory, and my teacher disagrees with the statement that vinyl sounds better than than CD/digital. I have no personal standpoint on this, because I have vinyl, but haven't had a working record player set up in a while.

Mah Collection:
67.   Rush                     Rush                                                                  1974

All of them First editions except for the Rolling Stones one

Where'd you land a first edition of that?!?!  Isn't that worth like a ridiculous amount of money?

Anyway, if you're a Floyd fan, you can't go wrong with the Dark Side of the Moon 30th Anniversary Edition vinyl.  That's as good a place as any to start off your collection :).

Also, I've been trying to decide between getting the 30th anniversary version or find a good condition one from 1973. How does it sound?

The 30th anniversary version I've got sounds pretty fantastic to me, but then again, I haven't got a 1973 version to compare it to...

I've found that it's pretty subjective and depends on what it is you're listening to.  Sometimes vinyl sounds better to me, other times CD sounds better.  I think that if you've got a good condition vinyl on a high quality turntable with the right amplification equipment, then the vinyl will usually sound better.  The problem is that most people don't have all those things...

I second the initial rec for Mr. Cheapos. I go there all the time, I love that place. I have over 100 vinyls myself and listen to them fairly often. Great stuff!

Sat down with my dad yesterday night, played the LPs of DSOTM and Animals. I think I can hear some positive differences in sound, AND there's just way more charm to it. Yup, vinyl is awesome.

I'm not going to enter the "who has the most vinyl" contest because I grew up in the 70's and all of my original stuff is vinyl anyway.  But I did buy a new turntable last year and yes, I do listen to my vinyl sometimes.  Actually, not a lot, but sometimes.  It's awesome.

The reason I have a list is because I go record shopping often and I sometimes forget which ones I already own.  :lol
