I just got a record player for Christmas and have been playing around with some of my Dad's vinyl. I've come back to some of  my favorite childhood albums that I always remember hearing in the car. My personal favorites are:

Million Mile Reflections- Charlie Daniels
Good Singin' Good Playin'- Grand Funk Railroad.

My two favorites on vinyl right now
God have mercy on a man
Who doubts what he's sure of.

So far, my collection is small. There are tons that I would like, but I just need patience and a lot of visits to the nearby stores I commonly use. But, so far:

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Rush - 2112
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Yes - The Yes Album
Yes - Fragile
Yes - Close to the Edge
Yes - Drama
Maurice Jarre - "Doctor Zhivago" Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Antal Dorati & The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra - Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture / Festival Overture

Like I said, it's small, but I plan on getting much more.

Edit: New additions -

John Coltrane - Blue Train
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Trilogy
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Works Vol. 1
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
HIM - Screamworks
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Kansas - Leftoverture
KISS - Dressed to Kill
Lady Gaga - Born This Way
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Pink Floyd - Animals
Rush - Permanent Waves
Fritz Reiner & The Chicago Symphony - Also Sprach Zarathustra
Vangelis - Chariots of Fire
The Who - Tommy
The Who - Who's Next
Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans
Yes - Relayer
Yes - Going For the One
Yes - Tormato
John Williams - E.T. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

My small collection expanded a bit lately:

- Transatlantic - SMPTe - Collector's edition bought at the Whirld tour.
- Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever - Collector's edition bought at the Whirld tour.
- Transatlantic - The Whirlwind - Collector's edition bought at the Whirld tour.
- The Dear Hunter - Act I & II
- The Dear Hunter - Act III
- The Dear Hunter - The Color EPs (preordered)
- Opeth - Watershed

I need Ghost Reveries and Damnation and some Pink Floyd (WYWH & DSOTM mostly) next.

This. DSOTM is godly on vinyl. That's where I heard it first, and nothing else compares. I heard WYWH on CD, but when I heard the vinyl, I was taken aback. There's something about vinyl that does it for me with certain albums.

As for Opeth, you have chosen wisely.

Crap, I really thought Shine would be smileysome in vinyl :( I want it mostly because of that one song.

Its a huge improvement over the CD sound.  Nothing wrong with it, but the LP just sounds so much thicker and more brutal.

If you're looking to spend a little more, this one is pretty great too.  Upgraded from a cheaper model about a year ago and I've been loving it so far -

Bumpage because I'm trying to organize my music collection and create backups for all my physical stuff in order to avoid too much wear on them but I dont know what to do with vinyls. Do you guys just download Jack Sparrow versions of your vinyls or do you backup them by connecting the turntable to the computer and creating a new file?

You can often get some pretty good vinyl rips from torrent websites. I have a USB capable turntable but I've never used the feature. What is the reason for backing up vinyls? It's not like a CD where the backup can be burned onto a blank to make an exact replica. From what I've seen vinyls are pretty robust. They're made to be played and played often! I don't have any hesitation breaking one out...even the 'expensive' ones.

I get the vinyls mostly for sentimental reasons, I like to have the albums I really like in a bigger format where the art is prominent. Of course, I also love their sound but I don't want to risk damaging the vinyls and for everyday use I prefer to listen to CDs or FLACs since it's less of a hassle than playing a vinyl and switching sides every 4 songs. I mostly play them when I'm not going to do anything else and I just want to focus on the music.

Will check those sites to see what they have, thank you!

Hmm good point. It could also be useful when you have a vinyl of a rare album and you can't find any good download links. In that case a USB turntable is quite useful. They normally have some corresponding software available on the manufacturers site, but my experience with Numaks is that it's quite fidgety. I don't really worry about lossless listening on my computer as with my current set-up there wouldn't be much different between v0 and a usb vinyl rip. There is that characteristic warmness, but I wouldn't go through the effort just for that.  :)
