Favorite Holiday Songs (feat. Splent's Top 100)
« on: October 28, 2015, 10:54:14 AM »
It's that time of year. I want to do a countdown of favorite holiday music for the upcoming season. However rather than doing a top 25 of my own like I've done in years past, I came up with an idea of how to do a countdown of our own as a forum.

So everyone submits their top FIVE. I count them up, giving 5 pts for each favorite, 4 pts for each 2nd favorite and so on. From that I'll compile our list as a forum (most points is number 1, etc). We all have broad tastes so I think we can discover some new music this way as well.

Use specific version of the song.

For example:

WRONG
Little Drummer Boy

RIGHT
Little Drummer Boy by Harry Simeone Chorale

I'm trying out a google form, so submit here.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10l-8CKfC2JqRU22_6mVV1xmdRd8aPYuYyhu-rUxvvAk/viewform?usp=send_form

Hopefully it will work.

Ok... So maybe people can create a Google doc to share with me, so I can see... Unless does anyone know if there is a way to create a sort of ballot that can be sent somewhere for me to check?

I hate holiday songs.

And yeah, it's not even November.  Don't even want to think about XMas until at least the 24th of Dec.

Fuckin' A.  I normally go to the 24 hour non stop shop thing at some centres too around 4am before work to try and avoid the people too.  I just hate the whole time of year to be honest.  The couple of days off is nice though.

The 24th?  Ha, I leave it till the 23rd.  Just in case when things go wrong, and they will, you still have the 24th to fall back on.

Are we doing favorite songs in general, or specific renditions of songs?

It's still a little early but I want to make this official soon.

Is there a way to submit lists in a Google doc or something similar so that when people submit things they can't see what others have written/submitted?

Try this. Use specific version of the song.

For example:

2. Christmas Time Is Here Again by The Beatles
3. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town by Bruce Springsteen
4. All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey
5. Oh Holy Night by Cartman

Came here to post this, or Carol of the Bells in general

I'm pretty sure August Burns Red's Sleddin' Hill is pretty much all you need to hear about traditional Christmas Carols though :lol

I making Spotify playlists pf Christmas… I made a classic music playlist, and a modern music playlist. My classic playlist is everything up until around 1980, MY modern is from 1980 until today. Do you think that I should put 80s music underneath the classics? Or should I keep 80s music underneath modern?

You guys need to listen to the dark lord Cthulhu.

https://www.cthulhulives.org/solstice/

My votes:

Ronnie James Dio & Tony Iommi - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Could be a real Black Sabbath song if you don't know the original and the lyrics would change. Awesome.

H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society - Silent Night, Blasphemous Night. Really, you have to listen to it.

Trans Siberian Orchestra - d'uh, their entire Xmas discography, if I have to pick a song, I'm really touched by What Child is This.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

My favorite carol by far is Silent Night. But I don't have a favorite version of it.

O Holy Night, by Ted Neeley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sheugc7IWmg

Hark the Herald Angels Sing, by the residents of Bedford Falls. Lo's of teary-eye moments for me in this movie. Of all the happiest, I love when the bank examiner and the cops(?) come up to the table and are all "eh, what the hell?" and give George some cash and tear up the paperwork.

OK, I just discovered another holiday song that's going to throw off my traditional top 25 list... which I'll post at some point.  It may become a top 50.

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

I LOVE THIS SONG.

I've listened to it about 20 tmes in the last 24 hours lol

Let's see...

Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron - The Royal Guardsman
All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey
I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake/ELP (either version)
Last Christmas - Wham!
Father Christmas - The Kinks

I could easily do 10 more.  I LOVE Christmas time, and I love Christmas music.  Elvis' Christmas album is gold, and I have a couple Rat Pack Cds that are excellent.  I understand he is a pariah among these parts, but I listen to a lot of Kenny G around this time as well.
