What percentage of time do you devote to the various arts?
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:17:54 PM »
Playing music / listening to music, writing / reading, film, TV, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, whatever.

A few years ago, I listened to music far more than everything else, but I'm now reading at least as much, if not more.

I've almost completely stopped watching movies these days, and other than a wee bit of vacuous TV, don't bother with that either.

Also, I enjoy photography, but won't include it.

Music (listening) - 40-45%%
Reading - 45%
Movies - 5%
TV - 5-10%

I have very little time anymore to do anything art related. I used to devote 80% of my time to playing guitar and now it's around 80% listening to music, 20% to TV.

I really love reading as well but so little of my time is leftover for reading :( I hate growing up.

Listening to music 80%

Everything else is evenly distributed. I am able to dedicate a whole lot more time to art when I'm not in school

Making music

Writing poetry

Writing standup comedy

Writing screenplays

Watching movies

I don't devote too much to various arts.  Probably like 20% of the time listening to music, the rest watching Twitch.TV streams (I'm counting it as watching TV, since TV does not appeal to me nowadays) and that's during the time I'm not at school (which sadly, this quarter, is going to be a lot).

I wish I had the time to address the imbalance but music is the only thing I can realistically do for much of the day.

Music 90%
Reading (as in books not internet) 3%
Movies 2%
TV 5%

There's so much TV/movie stuff that I know I would love and I would also like to read a lot more literature on history but it's hard to see it happening any time soon.  I also really want to get back into playing the guitar but after 15 years on and 20 years off I am not sure that my perfectionist streak will cope with starting from "shit" again :lol

I have no idea how inaccurate this is. I've never really paid much attention to how much time I invest in things, so this is all just a guess.

Music - 40%
Reading - 0%
Movies - 10%
TV - 50%

I'm not sure percentage-wise, but i'd probably rank them this way:

Music
Movies (I watch anywhere from 1-5 a week, I'd say)
TV (I don't have cable but I will often rent and dive into a show- right now I'm hooked on Dead Like Me)
Reading (this sort of goes up and down- sometimes I read nightly and sometimes I put a book down for a month and forget about it)
Writing (I don't do it nearly as much as I used to or would like to, but also an up and down thing)

And then there are occasionally things like taking photos or coloring/crafting.

I couldn't put percentages on it, but probably most of my time.

I watch a lot of TV shows (rarely on TV though), and listen to music over the day. I only occasionally watch movies.

If I'm actually doing something productive, it's mostly making videos, which usually involves creating art, and writing music etc. On the rare occasion I'm doing work, that's pretty much the same thing.

Once you take out sleep, eating etc, it would have to be the majority of my time.

If it's a sunny day then I am outside either walking around in the Wildlife Centre or at work basically.

I hate being inside on a sunny day ( unless i've just got up on my day off and i'm having a few minutes drinking coffee and browsing the net ).

I do all my entertainment in the evening. Writing music / browsing the net / watching iPlatyer / Youtube / Netflix n coffee.

If only there were a few more hours to each day. I don't spend nearly enough as much time as I'd like to various arts.

I think roughly speaking, for me

Music: 80%
Movies: 10%
Reading: 9%
TV Shows: 1%

Don't even know why I gave the TV shows that one percent when it should be less. And I probably should rectify that. I'm usually either working or dealing with classes.

Hmm...I can't do percentages because I'm pretty sure it'd be inaccurate and I'm highly skeptical of any percentage given in this thread.  :lol

But much of my free time is spent modding PCs. Mainly my own, but I'm also now doing my friends' PCs and have a little side work for people who come to me through friends of friends, co-workers, etc. I make those people pay, but usually do my friends' PCs for free or ask for a nice blowjob.

I also play a shitload of video games, much of it is spent on games of old these days and I play a lot of emulators and such (any nitpickers can lick my bunghole because I've owned nearly all of the games in the past...it's just that I, y'know, sold them off when I went through my 'video games are for kids' phase when...I was...still a pre-teen...*ahem*), as well as modding old systems and I'm now attempting translating some games that never made it to the states, which is only possible through the beauty of emulation and ROM.

Other than that, I keep a pretty consistent Netflix viewing at least for an hour or two once every few days, and I read a whole lot of manga and watch a little anime here and there.

I read novels every now and again but it's pretty spotty on when and how long, if the book keeps my interest. I mainly read titles that I've read in the past. I think I've read I Am Legend about thirty times by now and am currently reading through a bunch of H.P. Lovecraft's works; I own almost every compilation of the genius.

I'll watch movies once every few days; if I've got some time off and I'm taking a break from modding, building PCs, etc...I might binge some titles. I like movies a lot but these days there are very few films in which I'm truly invested in and appreciate. A lot of them are more or less boredom killers for me. But when I do find a good few, I latch onto them and will rewatch them to death.

As for music, that isn't even able to be factored in because if I am able to listen to music (which, pretty much the only time I can't is at work or if I'm putting the little ones down...which doesn't take long), I'll be listening. It'd be much easier to list the few moments in which I am not listening to music rather than when I am. Music is, other than my technological addiction and my motherboard fetish, my world. It keeps me sane, it makes me insane in my big fat membrane, and the bumps of geese run rampant across my fetid skin!

And Porn. A shitload of porn. Fuck you, it's art. Beautiful, dirty, nasty art.

RIP DTP.

Watching TV and listening to music are the top.
Then making music.
Then reading.
Then watching films.

Well... Hmm. My two jobs as of the last couple of years have been a combination of gardening and piano tutoring. When I'm gardening I'm normally listening to music, this is actually the best time for me to discover new music or have enough time to listen to full albums, I pretty much have at least 3-4 hours a day where I can consistently listen to music uninterrupted so it actually makes me look forward to work if I've got some new music I especially want to listen to.

Then my remaining time is normally spent playing music or things related to lesson plans. This sometimes involves preparing grade material for demonstration if the client/student wants to sit exams, or finding and learning pieces that they might be interested in. As a result of most of my life having something to do with music, it makes me really lazy creatively because at the end of the day I can no longer be bothered writing or creating anything for myself, even if I had been inspired earlier in the day from listening to something. Or i'll just be doodling and end up forgetting half or what I'm doing because I don't bother to write it down or record. I like to think it comes back around in some other form down the line though. ::)

Don't read as much as I used to, only if I come across something that particularly interests me these days. Other kinds of art.... Haha no, I can't draw, or paint. Hell you can probably barely read my writing if it's handwritten. Music is probably the only slightly artistic thing I am involved with.  :lol I have phases of watching a variety of TV shows (albeit not on TV). But I tend to have a short attention span for movies. Don't know why but I have to really like it or else I get restless and bored and completely loose interest in watching.

Oh yeah, I play a few video games aswell (although attention span can effect me here to, normally can only play in small bursts especially if it's something more involved like an RPG). It's a favorite pasttime, I tend to get a kick out of the  arcadey and retro side of things and part of my passion is probably fueled by nostalgia as I don't find myself particularly impressed by all the crazy big budget blockbuster titles. I mean if they're fun then sure, but too many games are all flash with no substance and generally assume the player is a moron who's never played a video game in their life. Makes me prefer older games with shit like that everywhere but there are plenty of exceptions.  :loser:

Often I wake up in the morning and write, then I get on with my day. Once a week I will write a poem and a story for a weekly contest at a writer's forum I go to. Other times I will write them according to prompts I find on Tumblr. If any of these things are well-received, I will submit them to a magazine or journal. If they are rejected, I will keep submitting them to other magazines and journals until they are accepted.

One such short story, I think I want to turn into a novel, but I have no idea when I will have the time and motivation to do that.
