Man, that's quite a list. It's between FMJ and Strangelove, and they've both got pretty compelling cases. Spartacus would be a distant third. I love the movie, but didn't much care for Douglas or Simmons (everybody else was aces).
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

2001 - but it's more of a sentimental pick. I was enthralled growing up but of course couldn't understand the ending (who could). I thought it was WAAAYY ahead of it's time - even as a young kid.

And then 2010 came out.  :metal

I honestly don't know how to pick. The problem with this question and this list of movies is that, aside from being directed by Kubrick, they really don't have much in common. They cover such a wide variety of styles and voices and tones that it's hard to compare. It'd be like asking who's better, Mozard, Miles Davis, or John Petrucci?

By that, how am I comparing them? Just which one I enjoy most? For me, that's also hard. I love a ton of them almost equally and films like FMJ and 2001 are just so completely different that I don't how to rate them other than #1 war film and #1 sci-fi film. You know?

Incredibly difficult to pick but I went with Eyes Wide Shut. On another day I could as easily have selected 2001, Strangelove, Full Metal Jacket or Paths of Glory.

I have a lot of movies to watch.  :)

I didn't quite get 2001.  Beautiful film, but left me.... confused.

I like The Shining, and I like Full Metal Jacket.  Haven't seen ACO in too long.

I am no fan of his movies.   I know.  The one that really connected with me was Full Metal Jacket

The two that had the biggest impact on me on my first viewing are Paths of Glory and Full Metal Jacket. Those in the second tier of that criteria are Strangelove and The Shining. Then maybe 2001 but we watched that in school in conjunction with reading the book, so it lost points for being "educational." Then there is a big drop off. I've never seen Barry Lyndon, The Killing, or Lolita. I have only seen Paths of Glory once, a long time ago. FMJ I've seen a couple times, and the enjoyment didn't diminish any. So I will pick that one.

My favorite is easily Full Metal Jacket.  Not even close.

I am not a very big fan of Kubrick.  He was certainly a genius, in his own way, but I always found his style very cold, for lack of a better word.  I certainly admire much of his work, but I wouldn't say that I draw joy from hardly any of it.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

The Shining....though not an easy pick.

The bathroom scene. Not the one with the axe, nor the one with the woman in the tub. Rather the one with the butler wiping off the jacket. Several minutes of absolute pure gold (or I guess I should say red in this case).

Barry lyndon is worth a watch. Visually compelling, with an overall interesting story. It just drags in places and certainly didn't need to be over 3 hours

From the list, I've only seen A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Full Metal Jacket. They are all excellent, but I love A Clockwork Orange. My 2nd favorite movie of all time.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I voted for Strangelove. But now I wish I would’ve voted Lolita....just to watch people say, “Who the **** voted for Lolita???” :rollin

The Shining. By Miles.

People say Star Trek The Motion Picture is boring. But compared to 2001 - it's Star Trek into Darkness.

- Actually compared to Blade Runner - Star Trek The Motion Picture is The Fast and The Furious.

I’m glad SOMEONE chose Eyes Wide Shut. I couldn’t, in good faith choose it over 2001 or A Clockwork Orange but good god, what an underrated, misunderstood movie! You could write an 800 page book analyzing all the weird, crazy shit in that film.

Not to get all hoity toity but 2001 is one of the movies that’s like a 25 year McCallan Scotch Single Malt. You gotta sit back, enjoy the hint of dried apples, smoke, and chocolate. Experience it for its artistry and craftsmanship. But if you go in expecting it to go down like Coca-cola, you’re gonna think it tastes like motor oil.

But hey, not everyone likes Scotch.
