Does Brent like cheese in his songs?

I wouldn't say I go searching for cheese in my music like I do in my diet , but if the music is amazing then a decent helping of cheese isn't enough to put me off.  I'm sure there's a point at which I'll say it's ridiculous (where the cheese rather than the music becomes the main focus) .

Regarding Pain of S:

It’s quite a well structured effort with plenty going for it – a nice mellow beginning that builds and builds with an unexpectedly nice solo (not a band I have associated with great guitar work)

Daniel Gildenlöw and Johan Hallgren (haven't heard the new guy yet) are extremely talented guitar players with good taste in their playing. And they can shred your ears off if they want to too  Most of it is probably too proggy for your liking but listen to the solos in Used or Song For The Innocent for instance to get a taste.

He’s not the most naturally gifted vocalist I have heard but he extracts the maximum from himself here.

Does not compute. I can see why some might not like his vocals but Daniel Gildenlöw is one of the best and one of the most versatile vocalists out there.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

Hopefully for Chad's sake it's not Rd 2  ;D

Someone who doesn't like him is hardly going to say he is one of the best , but that wasn't the case with me anyway.  I actually do like his voice but to me there wasn't much to make him stand above other good singers (very unique tone, effortless power) other than the great emotion and effort in the performance.

Vocals are pretty key for me and nothing would get 9.5 from me if I didn't rate the vocalist.  I was more just trying to emphasise that , to me at least , he sounded like he was squeezing every last bit of emotion/power out of his voice , rather than being someone with power/talent to burn just cruising along.  That effort actually added to my enjoyment of the song.

I just wanted to comment on the "not the most naturally gifted" because I think he's one of the most talented (and therefore naturally gifted) singers in rock/prog/metal.

But anyway, my real motivation was to just enter this thread so I get noticed when new posts arrive. Like in Chad's roulette  I hope that most of the songs submitted are up my alley and I will find many new bands/songs to add to my "to-listen-to-somewhere-in-the-future"-list.  ;D

I do prefer a vocalist who's pushing it a bit, a bit of grit in the voice rather than a purer vocal - that's what puts me off alot of AOR stuff I should in theory like. PoS however have just never done anything for me. I have Remedy Lane but don't remember a thing about it. I bought that after seeing them support DT and enjoying their set. I'll have to give them another go.

Remedy Lane is the only album I have and , like I said in my write up , the only song I rated top marks was the instrumental.  Hence the slot in my DTF faves.  The song submitted in Rd 1 here obviously impressed me a lot more than anything on that album ,so there is hope for me and PoS.   I do wonder though what the strike rate is going to be across the whole catalogue .

If you can't get into Remedy Lane then probably PoS is not the band for you, apart from the occasional song.

Alright, alright...

Dave... I already know Karnya.
Paul... ditto for Mystery.

Otherwise, I'll avoid your tracks. It puts me at a disadvantage though... not having the ability to assess Brent's opinions of the songs by SEVEN of you!  Guess the same warning (and handicap) goes for you Brent if they use those songs in my roulette first.

I'd only heard the new one and didn't rate it. A couple of decent songs in the albums I checked out but nothing wowed me.
