Parama's Coincidental Roulette! (FINAL RESULTS!)
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:42:16 AM »
Parama's Roulette!

10 Entrants!
10 Rounds!
100 songs total! Woo!

Participants:
1. Elite
2. Sacul
3. senecadawg2
4. mikemangioy
5. Tomislav95
6. 425
7. FlyingBIZKIT
8. LordCost
9. Train of Naught
10. Shadow Ninja 2.0

Some rounds will be open rounds, some rounds will be themed. Every round will be named after a song I like that fits the theme title-wise (not necessarily musically).
1. The Start of Something Beautiful
2. Any Colour You Like
3. Music Box
4. A Simple Mistake
5. The Running Free
6. The Silent Man
7. Drumhead Trial
8. A Dark Design
9. Deep Peace
10. Ending Theme

Rules:
1. Do not take any of the wagers. You're really only gonna end up hurting yourself.
2. Any songs I deem "outside of my comfort zone" will get a .5 point bonus regardless of whether or not I like them, because taking risks is fun.
3. Submit songs via PM. Youtube links, bandcamp links, etc. or direct MP3 transfers are all acceptable methods of submissions.
4. Each round is out of 10. No score can exceed 10, even with the "comfort zone" bonus.
5. The Semi-Banned list is mostly artists I've heard one album from and wasn't hugely sold on them from that album. Entering an artist from that list is basically trying to really sell a band to me that I couldn't get into the first time.
6. The wishlist is bands I know of and have heard little to none from. There's no bonus or penalty for entering them, they're more there for me. Entering one might be a risk though because there's a few there I really doubt I'll like. But if we can get every artist knocked off that list by the end of the roulette, that would be great.
7. So I don't end up with like 5 songs from one artist in a single round; only the first two entries from an artist in a round will be allowed, others will be asked to re-send. If two people send the same song, the second will be asked to resend. There may be other cases where I ask people to resend, too.
8. Seriously, do not take any of the wagers. I put them there only as schmuck bait.

Wagers:
1. Any previously entered artist who scored lower than 8.0 can be re-entered, but if the second entry scores lower than the first, there will be a one-point penalty. Regardless of the score, only two entries from the same artist will be permitted.
2. Any artist on the Semi-Banned List can be entered, but if the entry scores lower than 8.0, there will be a .5 point penalty. Any artist on the semi-banned list that gets entered will be moved to the banned list.
3. There is no length limit on entries, but only the shortest song over 12 minutes will not be penalized. The next shortest song will be penalized .5 points, and all longer songs will be penalized 1 point.

I'm not going to even start the roulette until a week from today because I want to finish my top 50 albums list, but feel free to sign up for this trainwreck in the meantime.
Do not take the wagers.

Also, pre-roulette minigame, guess what each of the rounds is from the song title provided for them

also i should mention the wagers are a bad idea because i feel my scoring curve is pretty brutal
if your song doesn't stand out don't expect higher than like a 6

Does not compute.

I'm sitting this one out. Our tastes are too far apart, and since there are 10 rounds and themes too, I don't think I'll manage well. I may run out of ridiculous stuff to send.

I'll be following though.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I'll give that a go.

1. The Start of Something Beautiful - Songs that are openers or could make good openers for albums/concerts
2. Any Colour You Like - Songs that invoke a colour when heard (sad=blue, etc)? Not an easy one this
3. Music Box - Relaxing music, possibly instrumental
4. A Simple Mistake - No idea
5. The Running Free - Upbeat or exciting
6. The Silent Man - Either acoustic or instrumental
7. Drumhead Trial - Songs with great drumming
8. A Dark Design - Dark and ominous stuff
9. Deep Peace - Relaxing/Ambient
10. Ending Theme - Epic closers or that could make good closers

As for participating, if my roulette has been any indication I think I should sit out. ;D

alright it's full up full

I'm gonna give y'all the round 1 theme now, then, and you can send songs if you want but I'm not going to listen to any of them until my top 50 is done.

Round 1: The Start of Something Beautiful
Opening tracks, or songs that give a feeling of beginning if not necessarily an opening track. Something to really warm me up for the rest of the roulette. Make a strong entrance. Adhere to the rules, don't take any of the wagers, and impress me. I'm expecting some good stuff from y'all.

And I think I left this out of the rules but adherence to theme is required, if I listen to your entry and don't find it to fit the theme at all, I will ask you to resend and dock you .5 points for the round, so please try to keep to the themes  :lol

1. The Start of Something Beautiful - Songs that are openers or could make good openers for albums/concerts
2. Any Colour You Like - Songs that invoke a colour when heard (sad=blue, etc)? Not an easy one this
3. Music Box - Relaxing music, possibly instrumental
4. A Simple Mistake - No idea
5. The Running Free - Upbeat or exciting
6. The Silent Man - Either acoustic or instrumental
7. Drumhead Trial - Songs with great drumming
8. A Dark Design - Dark and ominous stuff
9. Deep Peace - Relaxing/Ambient
10. Ending Theme - Epic closers or that could make good closers

Only one between A Simple Mistake and Music Box will be an open round, I don't see two open rounds one after the other.
A Simple Mistake if it's not an open round will be something really original (maybe two particular players will have special bonus for mistake, or their two songs submitted will have votes exchanged, or maybe it's permitted to ignore the banned list for one round, but I don't see any mistakes in a roulette to be a good idea ;D). I'd say Music Box - Open Round and A Simple Mistake - No idea too, but not open.
The Silent Man - Instrumental
Any Colour You Like - Songs that invoke a colour or with a colour in the title. I bet it's not open, even if it's probable.
I agree with you for the other other rounds.

I'll send soon.

I have 8 of 10 entries already.

That's because we are good, and excited.

And this is my first roulette I've ever participated in, so I'd like to have a good reputation of sending in things early rather than late. Elite
