Dream Theater in Unexpected Places
« on: August 13, 2015, 08:18:08 AM »
I was just watching AAA Triplemania (the Mexican wrestling equivalent of Wrestlemania), and was pleasantly surprised to hear one of the wrestlers using a Dream Theater song as their entrance music, very fitting and cool too.

I know we've discussed these kinds of things before, but it was nice to hear a recent one for myself. :tup

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

:lol Although kinda silly given that both wrestlers had short hair.

Some other guys came out to popular music, like Thriller and Seek and Destroy, but this guy got bonus points for DT.

Wouldn't "Metropolis pt 1 - The Miracle and the Sleeper Hold" be more appropriate? Missed opportunity!

Wow, never realized how high the drums were in the ToT mix.

Keep in mind that's live audio in a stadium (on a show that had severe audio problems throughout), so some sounds, especially the low end on the drums, will travel better than others.

Gonna throw in a vote for The Million Dollar Dream Theater.

Bonus points for working in the band's name!

Best I came up with were Under a Glass Moonsault and Erotohulkamania.

I once found John Myung hiding in my sock drawer.  That was unexpected for sure.

Well, yeah, but I was still surprised how much attack the kick and snare had. Hearing the song under these circumstances is a lot like watching someone else drive your car. You know how it's supposed to look, but it still might surprise you how weird and different it is.

ToT always reminded me of Metallica's black album. It's heavy, dark, cohesive, with religious themes, "thy", but mostly because As I Am is such a similar opener to Enter Sandman. The drum production is yet another aspect where the two albums feel similar to me.

Wow, it's weird I never noticed how similar those intro's are until you just said it, it's pretty obvious know that I know.

I heard The Best of Times in Best Buy around the time it came out.  I used to work at Best Buy and like a lot of places, they had their own mix of songs but I'm not so sure about this one, whether it was somebody playing it or if it was indeed a mix.  Either way, it was over the main speakers.  Just pretty odd because that was never released as a single or promo.
