Periphery Survivor - Main Thread
« on: August 03, 2015, 02:35:22 PM »
Hello Periphery fans! I was introduced to Periphery about a year ago when they opened for Devin Townsend. They have slowly been edging out Dream Theater as my favorite band and I decided to run a survivor to find out what this forum’s opinion is on their top material.

The survivor will consist of 6 album survivors, with the top two songs heading straight to finals and the 3rd and 4th ranked songs fighting through consolations to seize the last three spots in the finals.
   Exceptions:
   1. Only one song from Icarus EP will go into finals and one will head to consolations.

The finals will consist of 13 songs.

Each round will last for a day.
Tiebreakers will have their own separate threads and polls.

==================================================================================================================================

I have a few questions before we start:

Do you want me to include bonus tracks (Passenger / Far Out) for both Periphery and Periphery II?

Should I include Jetpacks Was Yes! (v2) and all the Icarus remixes for Icarus EP or base it solely on original material? (New Groove, Frak the Gods, Captain On, Eureka)

Holy shit Periphery opened for Devin Townsend? They don't exactly match in music styles, but it sounds amazing.

As for the questions, I prefer having the bonus tracks, don't care much about Jetpacks Was Yes!, it's up to you after all.

Yeah. I was pretty let down after the Shining performance (their music is way too crazy for me to enjoy ) but seeing Periphery as the second opening act before Devin came on was absolutely amazing. I gotta say I became a fan instantly when they played Icarus Lives as the first song. :metal  Devin's setlist was kinda weak tho imho.

Icarus Lives! has also been my introduction to Periphery, and to this day probably my favorite!

I'm totally in this.

Don't care about the PII bonus tracks and I'd leave the remixes/re-recordings off of the Icarus EP survivor.

I will be including Passenger for Periphery (as the other bonus tracks are parts of Icarus EP anyway) and Far Out for Periphery II (The Heretic Anthem is just a cover, albeit a really good one) and the Icarus EP will consist only of the four original songs then.

The first round of the Periphery debut album survivor will begin today (4th of August) at 20:00 CET.
Let's hope more than us three participate  :lol

I'm in as well!

I think Jetpacks Was Yes! v2.0 is far superior to the original, so I usually ignore the original and just count v2 instead, but I'm fine with whatever you choose.

Periphery
1. Light
2. Racecar
3. Icarus Lives!
4. Letter Experiment
5. Jetpacks Was Yes!
6. All New Materials
7. Ow My Feelings
8. Zyglrox
9. Buttersnips
10. Insomnia
11. Totla Mad
12. The Walk
13. Passenger

Light is the winner of the Periphery self-titled survivor! I would say that the survivor was a mild success. The latter half of the album is pretty much spot on except for The Walk being tossed out early for no reason, but the top 3 is something I can't really agree with. Icarus Lives! definitely deserves top 2 at least.

Move Icarus Lives down to #11 and Racecar up to #1 and these are pretty good results for me.

I'm kinda okay with most of the results, but Buttersnips is waaaaaaaaay too low and Light is waaaaay too high.

Icarus EP
1. Jetpacks Was Yes! (v2.0)
2. Captain On
3. New Groove
4. Frak the Gods
5. Eureka

Jetpacks Was Yes! is the winner fo the Icarus EP survivor, with Captain On as the runner-up. They receive spots in the finals and consolations respectively. Pretty good outcomes overall I have to say, though Eureka deserved the 3rd spot.

Periphery II Survivor Results
1. Ragnarok
2. Masamune

3. Erised
4. Scarlet

5. Muramasa
6. Luck As A Constant
7. Have A Blast
8. Ji
9. Facepalm Mute
10. MAKE TOTAL DESTROY
11. The Gods Must Be Crazy!
12. Mile Zero
13. Far Out
      Epoch
14. Froggin' Bullfish

Ragnarok is the winner of the Periphery II survivor by a single vote. I'm extremely happy about the results compared to Periphery I. My only complaint would be Facepalm Mute making it to 9th, but I can live with that since we got the rest of the album correct. I know a few people who aren't happy thought.  :lol

Clear Survivor Results
1. The Parade of Ashes
2. Pale Aura

3. Zero
4. The Summer Jam

5. Feed The Ground
6. Extraneous
7. Overture

Parade wins the Clear survivor tiebreaker since it received less overall votes. They both move to finals, so it doesn't really matter. Okay results for me, since I don't consider any of the songs to be top 20 Periphery.

Yeah, Clear is their least interesting release. Parade of Ashes is my favorite, but it's still at #30.

Juggernaut: Alpha Survivor Results
1. Psychosphere
2. Alpha

3. A Black Minute
4. The Scourge

5. Rainbow Gravity
6. Heavy Heart
7. 22 Faces
8. MK Ultra
9. Four Lights
10. The Event

Pretty solid results overall. Switch A Black Minute with 22 Faces and it would have been perfect. Updated in the main post.

Juggernaut: Omega Survivor Results
1. Omega
2. Stranger Things

3. The Bad Thing
4. Priestess

5. Hell Below
6. Graveless
7. Reprise

Well, Omega winning the survivor was a huge surprise for me. They both go to finals, so it doesn't matter that much anyway though.

Omega is the absolute winner of the Periphery survivor! Once again thanks to everyone who has stuck with me over the last 3 months. I might run more survivors in the future and definitely want to do Periphery again once the fourth album is out.

I might have been a bit cranky over the results sometimes, but I've had fun voting in this survivor, thanks for hosting it!

I must say that we produced some weird results. I mean, I don't like Icarus Lives ending up this high, but it's not weird. But Racecar at #9 is pretty weird, and Letter Experiment as P1's best is pretty weird too. There are a few things like that in these results.

I must say that we produced some weird results.

That's just because we had an average of 7 voters. It's hard to get a general consensus without atleast 15 or more people.
