Bolsters™ The Roulette ★THE CONCLUSION★
« on: July 28, 2015, 09:39:16 AM »
Well, it took more than a year (or 371 days :lol), but it's finally my turn to host my very first roulette! So, jumping in and getting things rolling right away, the theme of this roulette (if you want to call it that) will be...

HEAD TO HEAD

For the entirety of this roulette, you will all be going head to head with other players. The rules in detail are as follows...

Rules
  • There will be eight contestants playing in seven rounds.
  • All rounds will be open.
  • Each round, the contestants will be paired up. The songs sent by each will be in direct competition with the submission of their opponent for the round.
  • The pairings will change each round, and you will face a different opponent each time, meaning that you will not play against the same person more than once.
Rather than points, players will be awarded various stars based on their performance. The stars are as follows:
  • In each match-up, the player who sends the song I like the most will receive a silver star ().
  • The player who sends the best song of the round overall will receive a gold star () instead of a silver star.
  • Any number of silver stars each round may be substituted for bronze stars (), or "begrudging stars". In the event that I'm not particularly fond of either song in a matchup, I will be forced to award one of the players anyway. When this happens, that person will receive the bronze star instead of the silver one. You will still receive a reward for besting your opponent for the round, but it won't be the full value of the silver star.
  • The fourth and final star is the pink star (), or "sympathy star". In the event that both competitors in a matchup send amazing songs, the sympathy star will be awarded to the loser. It's basically an apology that I couldn't award you a silver star even though I liked your song a lot. Any number of these stars may be awarded each round. Its value is low and it is unlikely to make much of a difference in the long run, but it's better than nothing!
  • At the end of seven rounds when you have all played against one another, the stars will be used to determine a winner.
  • In the event that two or more people are tied after seven rounds, an eighth round will commence, containing only those tied players. The winner of this round will then be the winner of the roulette.

Submitting
  • Submit your songs via PM, sending links to where the song can be streamed. This includes but is not limited to Youtube, Spotify, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, etc.
  • If you can't find the song you'd like me to listen to anywhere and need to send a file, PM me and I will provide you with an email address to send it to.
  • As far as song lengths go, I'm going to put an upper limit in the 12-15 minute range. However, each contestant will be allowed to send one song exceeding this length. Though if I'm being honest, I'd prefer it if you didn't do so. But if you've got a longer song that you really really really want to send me, have at it.
  • The banned list will be posted soon (it's pretty big and I didn't want it in the OP). You won't be allowed to send anything that is on it, and I may still reject specific songs or albums of bands not on the banned list, if I am familiar with them.

Contestants

As mentioned, I'd like to get eight people on board to participate. A few people have been invited and their slots will be reserved until they either confirm their participation, or they confirm their participation. I didn't want to fill up the roulette with invited people before it even started, so I've only reserved three of the slots for that purpose and have only invited people whose roulettes I participated in. So, sorry if you feel left out because you didn't get that PM - I had at least nine people in mind for invites, which was a bit much since I didn't want the roulette to be any bigger than eight. :lol You were one of those other six whose roulettes I have not participated in. Probably.

I'd just like to get five more victimsvolunteers to fill these empty slots and then we'll see what happens. :o

Banned Artists

Below is the list of artists that are banned. As mentioned in the OP I may (and probably will) still reject things not included here. I didn't want to discourage people from sending bands that I've listened to before and not gotten into if they feel that I'm missing out, or that they can change their mind, but I will reject certain songs or albums that I feel I am familiar with.

Anything sent in this roulette (regardless of my comments on it) is automatically banned.

Finally, my Last.fm profile can be viewed here, for those interested in seeing what kind of stuff I am listening to lately.

I took a bunch of stuff off of it aswell, things I figured there was no chance anyone would send anyway. Though looking back at it, I could have easily taken out a few more. Still, I wanted it to be as comprehensive as possible so that I (hopefully) don't have to reject too many submissions.

Yeah, definitely a few things in there I was hoping I might be able to use.  And I guess Live is so good, they had to be banned twice.

I'm traveling today until Friday, so might not be able to send until Friday night or Saturday (North American time).

Better put yourself on the list now then.

And normally, I'll be real prompt. It'll be easier here than in Tim's, since you use Spotify. I figured out a way to share directly with you from there. Should be able to send before Friday.

I doubt the choice will matter. ;)

I know what I'm sending (though it might get rejected I suppose). Just let me get back from work.

And hey Scorp, if you won't lose here, you've got to lose in 425's roulette.

Yeah, but I doubt I can beat you in 425's, you're two points ahead. And I won't play against you anymore in this roulette, so, that's probably my choice too. Would be nice to win 425's though. Don't think it will happen with the EP I've composed. :lol

Anyway, sent!

Eh, don't count yourself out. My EP will either be loved or give me the worst score that I will get in the whole roulette.

Also sent, to stay on topic. Can't believe that the band wasn't on the list, tbh. (I hope it doesn't get rejected.)

Are you sure we didn't send the same band? Because you just voiced my exact thoughts.

What Scorp said, but I'm sure nobody sent this artist ;D

In fact, I sent it in my opponent's roulette. With bad results :lol
