I guess I'm not really into more, eh, radio-friendly, top 40 pop stuff, since I have barely heard of some of the artists you've mentioned on this thread :lol . I guess I just prefer art-pop  :P

Top 40 pop is almost never on my radar, and I never actively seek it out, but I have always been a sucker for a catchy tune that you can dance to.  That is what growing up in the 80s with that music will do for ya.

meh, I guess I'd lean toward Janelle Monae's new single as the catchiest song of the year:

or even Tuxedo (Mayer Hawthorne's new more synthy project with Jake One)

Oh god, I couldn't finish the song in the OP  :lol

Can somebody tell me when this "bringing back the eighties" fad is going to die out? Please?

No opinion on her past albums as I'm not a fan of that style.
There's a handful of songs on Red that are listenable. I Knew You Were Trouble and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together in particular are really good pop songs.

I actually haven't heard Red yet, aside from hearing those singles in passing. I keep meaning to, but this whole roulette thing I'm doing has pretty much taken up all my new music time. I got into to Taylor's music shortly after her second album, Fearless came out, but by the time Red was released, I had lost interest. Then my interest was revived once I saw the video for Blank Space.

If you can't stand country music, then, yeah, you won't like her earlier albums. But I can assure you that her being a very good songwriter is not a new thing, it's been a thing at least since she was 16.

I though it was really disappointing - to know she was who wrote the amazing The ArchAndroid, listening to that single makes me sad.

Hey, I appreciate the eighties themselves for what they were. However, all this new stuff trying to be "retro"? Meh.

Just trying getting this out of your head after listening to it. :lol

Saw this before the MLB All Star Game.

Bad.  Really, really bad.  And I like a lot of "pop" stuff (more from the past, to be honest) but this is terrible.

my fiancee listened to 30 seconds of that Walk the Moon song and was repulsed (and she LOVES most 80's Pop..including George Michael).

But she says, this is much better:

Although not considered a pop song, this one sure is catchy and would appeal to most anyone listening on the radio

Honestly, yes.  When I first heard it, I feel like it has this U2's Beautiful Day vibe, imo.  Very catchy, anthemic, and it gets you thinking (though a lot of people listening to standard pop songs don't want to think while listening at times, nothing wrong with that though).

My dislike of her is more personal than musical. All About That Bass is... not bad, but pretty bland. Lips Are Moving is catchy and decent.

But just she seems like such an obnoxious person.

All About that Bass is incredibly repulsive. It definitely is a song that goes in the category of I never want to hear that song again.

This song is 17 years old, but is one I have been hearing a lot at work on the radio lately and cannot get out of my head:

For me it's Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' Downtown. It's old school hip hop that suddenly turns into a Freddie Mercury anthem.
