I listened to that song just yesterday actually. Really liked it, I'll definitely be looking into the rest of the band's work.

I've had trouble getting this out of my head lately:

Tbh I felt those songs were quite generic, nothing too special.

Anyways, does it count if it is J-Pop? With death metal and growls?

i've only heard the chorus of this song, it's pretty catchy yeah but a little repetitive

i've probably heard the other parts too but i don't remember them

i'll take it over most of what's popular right now though  :lol

Same here.

Kind of an odd choice for Tom Hanks to do a video for.  It's sorta catchy, but it feels like it sorta just misses the mark.

Just, no.

I suspect Shut Up and Dance and Uptown Funk are both destined to be mainstays at wedding receptions for years now. :lol

Shut Up and Dance always makes me think of Genesis's more poppy stuff for some reason. It's a decent song, but has been a bit ruined for me by some people I know overplaying it.

I know it's technically from last year, but since the album it's on was released this year, I'm going to say Uptown Funk will almost definitely be my favorite pop song of 2015. I just don't see another pop song coming along that I like as much as that (though I'm open to being wrong).

Edit: You know what, after listening to it again, Shut Up and Dance is pretty good, especially in the context of current Top 40.

Oh...it's that song.

It is catchy, at times when I'm out with friends and this song comes on, I'll just jam out and dance in my seat.

LOL. Okay, two minutes of internet research tells me that that song is by Meghan Trainor.  Never heard of her.  But she also has that Lips are Movin' song, which also is played non-stop on the radio these days.

None of her songs are any good and her voice is awful. I don't get the appeal. So glad my girlfriend isn't a fan. Unfortunately my daughter loves All About That Bass...

Haha - was waiting for that.    His favourite song at the moment is Thunderstruck - how's that??  ;D

KISS vs Meghan Trainwreck isn't a discussion that I will validate with an opinion  :P  And how did I end up here? :)

I agree. I don't see the appeal of KISS either.

Back to catchy pop songs, Arianna Grande's One Last Time is great. Too bad it's the only good song on the album.

Yup. I have nothing against pop singers as a group in general, but I do not like her one bit. She needs to go far, far away.

Shut Up and Dance is a good song, I like it. Unfortunately, it has already been a bit overplayed at parties at my college. All I needed to do to hear that song during the spring is go anywhere outside. But it's a good song. As is Uptown Funk, which is just about as fun as it gets.

"Shut Up and Dance" has nothing on the great singles Walk The Moon put out from their first record. Haven't listened to the rest of the new one though.

My girl T-Swift has some things to say about that.

But yes, Uptown Funk is very good.

Uptown Funk got old after the second listen. Another song I don't get the appeal of.

Speaking of Taylor Swift, Bad Blood keeps 1989 from being a perfect album. I've tried and tried, but each time I hear the song it gets worse. Thankfully the bonus tracks make up for it. Hell, even Shake it Off is a better song, by miles.

I like Bad Blood. It's not among the best on there, but it's solid. Shake It Off is the weak link and the imperfection in 1989, to me. Taylor has a bad habit of occasionally throwing distortion on her voice and doing cringe-inducing spoken word (Better Than Revenge from Speak Now, which, to its credit, is a better song than Shake It Off), which is what hurts Shake It Off.

But the bonus tracks, I completely agree. Wonderland especially, but really, all three  :hefdaddy

I guess I'm not really into more, eh, radio-friendly, top 40 pop stuff, since I have barely heard of some of the artists you've mentioned on this thread :lol . I guess I just prefer art-pop  :P

Sacul (and anyone else interested), in that "art-pop" vein: Coldplay – Midnight.

Disregard anything you think about Coldplay and give that song a go. It's very unconventional for them, and it's one of my favorite songs.

The spoken word in Shake it Off is indeed cringeworthy, but the song itself isn't the annoyance that is Bad Blood. That horrible fucking chorus... No opinion on her past albums as I'm not a fan of that style.

There's a handful of songs on Red that are listenable. I Knew You Were Trouble and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together in particular are really good pop songs.

Gotta agree with this. Take out the spoken word and you've got a fun little pop song IMO. It's no Blank Space or Style, but it's good.
