FII (part of the Top 3 for me personally), ToT and ADTOE (both good, but a clear cut below my Top 5).

Falling Into Infinity
Train of Thought
Octavarium

This is the obvious answer. Beyond this, despite still being mostly good albums, there's a noticeable drop-off imo (and I include Awake after that drop-off, not top half).
All of this.

Train of Thought
Octavarium
A Dramatic Turn of Events

This one was tougher, but very interesting to see everyone's picks.  Seems like there is much more variety this time around.
These 3 for me, quite comfortably. My order would have ADTOE and 8VM switched though.

The last two in the top half are easily WDaDU and 8V (I would argue for both maybe being even higher than 5&6).

The next one could have been a number of albums... went with ToT.
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.

I'm an outsider in that my favorite DT albums are the ones like Awake, ToT, 6Degrees, and 8VM. I know that's not the popular opinion.

But even i can tell that the holy Trinity of Dream Theater album are or should be: I&W, SFAM, and ADToE.

ADToE is essentialy I&W part 2, and SFaM is essentially just an extended piece of something you'd hear off one of those albums. They all contain the classic DT style of music, the same style that brought DT to popularity back when I&W was released. Therefore that is the Holy Trinity of DT albums.

This is a tough one, really. And I don't think that 8V would be on the top without the title track...

Both Awake and Six Degrees are more loved than ADToE.

What I'm saying is that it should be. I&W, SFAM, and ADToE are the most musically similar of all their albums.

And so it ends...

The big four:

Images & Words
Scenes from a memory
Six degrees of inner turbulence
Awake

Then:

Octavarium
Train of thought
A dramatic turn of events
Falling into infinity

Finally:

Dream Theater
Black clouds & silver linings
Systematic chaos
When dream and day unite
A daily dose of eMpTyV will flush your mind right down the drain...

Aside from Octavarium being outside of the bottom three, I am very OK with those results.

Octavarium ranked that high just because of the title track. IMHO.

^ I picked 8V, but yeah, title track is above just Illumination Theory for my least favorite 19+ minute DT song. I don't get it at times. It serves more than anything for me to tie the album together, and how it does that I don't know. "Full Circle" is right there with "Everyone Survived WHOOOOOAHHHHH"as

Not surprised by the results either. I could have easily picked TOT instead of 8V, and am torn on ADTOE vs. FII. I am one the weird ones who picked WDADU, and feel it should be tied with SC at least. I shall always be in the "Morningrise is Opeth's best record" crowd, the outspoken minority.  :lol
