The Holy Trinity Pt. 2: the outsiders.
« on: July 04, 2015, 01:26:36 PM »
Well, the Holy Trinity is conformed by I&W, SFAM & 6DOIT, being AW clearly in 4th position.

Now that the massively chosen are defined, let's go for the tough ones...  ;)

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

It seems that they're entering an area of extreme hazard. A zone of some sort. A dangerous one.

As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Dream Theater
A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Octavarium

As much as I love DT12, that thread a while back with the head to head matchups between DT12 and 8V was surprisingly difficult. 8V has some great musical passages all throughout the album. And I just love the two latest releases. Hoping for a slight departure next album.

That was kind of hard because Train of Thought, Octavarium, Black Clouds and A Dramatic Turn of Events are all about on the same level for me. But I finally settled on the following:

Dream Theater
Octavarium
Black Clouds and Silver Linings (I figured it could need some love)

I do not agree with SDOIT and Awake, but out of these options I guess DT12, ADTOE and 8VM.

Train of Thought
Octavarium

This is the obvious answer. Beyond this, despite still being mostly good albums, there's a noticeable drop-off imo (and I include Awake after that drop-off, not top half).
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

No. The poll is asking everyone what their top 3 is if IaW, SFaM, SDoIT, and Awake are taken out of the mix.

i really like some of adtoe, but it also has two of the worst DT songs

...then again, so does FII

8VM and ToT were obvious though, went with FII over ADTOE but it's close

No. The poll is asking everyone what their top 3 is if IaW, SFaM, SDoIT, and Awake are taken out of the mix.

In that case, it would be:

Train of Thought
Falling Into Infinity
Octavarium

FII and ADTOE are obvious.

The third for me could either be DT12 or BCSL, but I ended up voting DT12.
