What is it about the second one that you prefer over the first film ?

I prefer that it's better.

Carlito's Way
Terminator 2
Scarface
Goodfellas
Heat
Inglorious Basterds
Glengarry Glen Ross
The Godfather
Boyz N the Hood
Unforgiven

11. This is Spinal Tap

I sincerely thought about adding Interstellar, because I freakin' love that movie, but I think I'll let it sink in for a few more years before I do that.

Hey, I'm glad you like it.

But I've never seen this opinion before.  That's interesting.

Probably not a definitive list, also not really making any attempt to diversify genres, just what comes to mind right now.

The Lord Of The Rings
Gladiator
District 9
Batman Begins
The Matrix
The Shawshank Redemption
Back To The Future
The Prestige
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Iron Man

Not including multiple films of the same series - all three Lord Of The Rings films would be in my top 10 (perhaps even the top 3) but I'll just put Lord Of The Rings here since to represent all of them, and The Dark Knight and the Back To The Future sequels and of course the Matrix sequels are comparable with the first film in the series.

Revolutions is definitely better than Reloaded. Me and my bro watched all three films in one night recently and Reloaded adds almost nothing to the overall story except introducing a ton of characters that serve no purpose.

The second movie was decent (although too convoluted to compare to the first movie), but the third one was a slog to even sit through. When you can manage to make a robot battle that dull, you're doing something very wrong. The Matrix would have been better off remaining as a standalone movie imo.

Reloaded has my favorite highway chase of all time. That entire fight sequence I can watch over and over again. Reloaded does serve a purpose, it tells them their prophecy has been false and the whole matrix setup was trashed and reloaded over and over again. Were you not paying attention to the architect?

Also this is my favorite Reloaded parody

No, it only tells them that the architect thought that that was the case.  As Revolutions showed, he was wrong.

But in any case, I didn't really care for the sequels.  Like many, I felt they had a lot more potential than they actually utilized, which made them fall flat.  The Matrix franchise would have been a better overall story if it had ended after the first one and left a lot of the questions and mysteries raised by the first one unanswered, IMO.

Jacob's Ladder
The Shawshank Redemption
Oldboy (original Korean one)
Back to the Future
The Big Lebowski
Inception
The Dark Knight
Dogma
Serenity

uh...

do anime movies count? The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

I'm sure I've forgotten some movies I really enjoy.

I would probably rank Back to the Future 2 above the first one as well. Though I don't love anyof the 3, I think they're fun movies.

I enjoy movies but am not what you would call a movie buff.   The movies that I can think of that made an impression (mostly when I was a kid):

Terminator 2
Beverly Hills Cop 2
Trading Places
Rocky IV
Casino
Heat
The Devil's Advocate
Platoon
Naked Gun
The Empire Strikes Back

Predator ,This Is Spinal Tap , True Lies , Demolition Man and Ghostbusters were also big ones .

Wasn't implying anything other than what I said that I've never come across that thought the 2nd one was ranked higher than the first one. I love them all and my ranking is 1>3>2 and doesnt mean the 2nd one is bad just the slightest less awesome one.

Hmm I don't remember it that way, I'll have to revisit the sequels it's been a few years.

Well, that's weird.

Here it is, anyways:

Reloaded does serve a purpose, it tells them their prophecy has been false and the whole matrix setup was trashed and reloaded over and over again. Were you not paying attention to the architect?

No, it only tells them that the architect thought that that was the case.  As Revolutions showed, he was wrong.

I imagine the architect would have been right had not Smith come along as an anomaly to upset the order. Because I assume that there was never a 'Smith' in the previous 5 incarnations of the matrix? It feels like they should have told us if that was the case, which makes me assume that this was the first time that happened, forcing the machines' hands in allying wih Neo.
