Yeah, I really don't like you guys.

Nothing stopping you from posting your own Metallica pictures over at the children's thread.  Sure you got plenty from the St. Anger tour, right?   :rollin

Go to your room son and hang up your posters of Metallica where they all have short hair. :lol

Ah...Metallica was my first concert.  Borrowed the rent's car and drove myself, my best friend, and two other friends to Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.  I remember having fun, it being my first exposure to Mary Jane, contact high, and the guy on fire running across the stage.  The big debate on the way home was whether it was staged or not.  I remember myself and another guy saying they wouldn't mess around with that after James's accident, but then again no one on stage seemed to be bothered by a man on fire (I now know it is part of the show).  For a first concert, I really couldn't have asked for more.

'97 I presume?

Yup.  Senior year of high school.

Hey my first concert was also Metallica!  It looks like I'm in DTVT's age group, so while I also missed out on seeing the Cliff era live I did get to catch them before James became a greaser or whatever.  I saw them summer of '94, my 14th birthday.  It was the Live Shit tour at the now gone Cal State Dominguez Hills Velodrome outside of L.A.  Fight opened and were awesome, so did Candlebox who sucked, and Suicidal Tendencies who were super awesome.  Alice in Chains was supposed to open too but I imagine Layne was starting to really get messed up from dope around that time so they were "sick."  It was before they cut their hair but the early signs of something fishy going on were there.  Me and my buddies were like "WTF?" because James had some kind of Billy Ray Cyrus major mullet going on and Kirk had like dreads or braids or something and shorts on.  Shit definitely wasn't right.  But they were awesome, opened with Breadfan and closed with So What if I recall correctly.  Rumor was that they were going to play a new song but I think it just ended up being God that Fails or something rare like that off of the Black album.

I wish I could've seen Metallica... could've seen them at Lollapalooza in '96 in Indy (along with Soundgarden).  I still have the ticket  :|

Someday I'll see them live  :D
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

I also saw them on the Monsters Of Rock Tour with Kingdom Come, Dokken, Scorpions and VH up in Maine.  I think it was 1988.

Just noticed that there's a popular DVD of Aerosmith's performance at the inaugural Texxas Jam.  Should be worth checking out.

I've got the Aerosmith Texxas Jam VHS. Coincidentally, I just went on a huge Aerosmith binge on our last trip, so when I got home, I dug it out and put it on DVD. It only has a run time of 50 mins but it has some great classic footage.

    * Van Halen
    * Dio
    * Loverboy
    * Krokus
    * Keel
    * Bachman–Turner Overdrive

I think I mentioned it already in this thread, but mine was Metallica in July '94 at the Velodrome at Cal State Dominguez Hills in L.A., which is where the Home Depot Center now stands.  Lineup was:

Fight (I wasn't really familiar with Priest at the time beyond Breakin the Law.  I thought Halford looked like Sloth from The Goonies with sunglasses on)
Candlebox
Suicidal Tendencies
Metallica

It was for my 14th birthday, and even though James had a Billy Ray Cyrus mullet and Kirk had like braids or dreadlocks with shorts on, it was fuckin awesome.  :metal

Edit:  Yup, I already posted almost the exact same thing a few posts up.  I'm not very creative.  :lol

Styx, The Grand Illusion, 1977.  Hell of a show.  Styx were just on the verge of hitting it big, and actually hit it with this tour, but I got to see them in a small venue with great seats.

Only true festival I recall was seeing Spinal Tap at Molson Park in Barrie - Canada Day, hhmmmm...  1991 maybe '92.  Spinal Tap played 3 cities across Canada that day ... St. John's Newfoundland, then Barrie, then Vancouver.  Bunch of good Canadian bands .. 54-40, the Hip, Sass Jordan, Slik Toxic.  Ahh... good times.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
