I just turned thirty and I didn't start playing Pokemon until a couple of years ago.  I joke that I was ten years late to the party, because I started playing Yellow.  It is an addicting game.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Ya I think I just missed the Pokemon generation, by the time it started getting big I was just out of high school and didn't care about anything that wasn't partying.  It hit home when I saw the Pokemon thread here and realized that all these twentysomethings were probably young kids when it first came out and it's stuck with them, so it must be something cool.  The Ocarina of Time nostalgia I totally get, I guess I just barely missed the boat on Pokemon.  It sounds cool though, I'm sure once my kid reaches DS ownership age I'll get into it because from what I've seen they look like SNES era rpgs like FFIV/FFVI which I'm ALL ABOUT!  :lol

My son and I do the card game too...which is pretty neat. It teaches some math skills and some strategy as well. There just aren't many other kids playing TCG so..that's a bit of a bummer.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Happy Lives to you all.

We played the card game for quite a while after I'd stopped playing the GameBoy games.  Heck, I think it was only in the last two or three years that we stopped buying new decks with special cards and all that.  Wizards really hit a gold mine with that stuff.  You can keep changing the cards, coming up with new ones, forever, and people will buy them because you "gotta catch 'em all!"

I was watching a show today with an old Hungarian woman cooking authentic foods from Hungary. She reminded me of my grandmother. Then my mind started to drift away from what I was watching and I started thinking about how much I miss her. She has been gone 20 years now. Then I thought of my dad who passed away 22 years ago and I just starting getting sad. I guess that's one of the things that bothers me most about aging. I have lost so many loved ones and instead of time healing all wounds, I think it makes it worse. All the things my dad missed from knowing my wife, to knowing my beautiful daughter. My mom is now 76 and not in the best health. I started feeling guilty that I don't call her or make enough time for her like I should.
Just wanted to talk cause I was home sick today and I just started to bum out as my mind brought me to various places during the day.
Thanks for listening.

I'm struggling with the loss of my mom now.  There's so many things that remind me of her & hearing you talk about it 20+ years later breaks my heart.

Sorry, King. I'm just having one of those days. It happens to me once in awhile. I a night about a year ago where I started crying uncontrollably in the middle of the night after having a dream about my father. My wife had all she could do to calm me down. I kind of felt foolish because I was over the top in my emotional breakdown.
She lost her mom at age 53 in 1999 of cancer.
I know your heartaches and I'm sorry.

Thanks tick.  It's always the good thought that break me down.  I better news,  there's an ice cream place that makes about 50 flavors of ice cream that my dad goes to ever year.  He's so well known there he walks up and they've got the size and type of ice cream ready for him. :lol

I remember always having problems with the Intellivision controller. The round disc kept wearing out. They sold joystick like things to stick on to it.

I liked the hockey and the tank battle. Also the downhil skiing. I've never really been into video games though. It was interesting for about a year in the 7th grade. My brother, though, used to stay up all night playing the Dungeons And Dragons Intellivision game. Talk about primitive..

Colecovision was awesome.  Front Line was one of my favorite games.  I still have a soft spot for the Atari 2600 though.

Otherwise, I have a Commodore 64 emulator on my home computer, so I can play ALL of my old craptastic favorites from back then.  And there's a ton of them.

Yar's Revenge.  FTW.

Intellivision was cool for the Football, but I rarely got to play it since only the well-to-do kids got one.

But then in my neck of the woods we had a chain of free-standing arcades (all of the closed up Pizza Huts and Dairy Queens).  Barstools, cigarette burns on the console,  drinking and smoking in the parking lot.  Great times.  It occurred to me the other day that kids today have no concept of the arcade.  A place where you go to play video games that cost a quarter (dollar now, I'm sure) wouldn't make sense.  Real shame.  The dark, loud, epilepsy inducing arcades were one of the great things of our era.

Edit:  Journey: Escape had the 6x9s built into the cabinet so that Separate Ways would blast half way across the mall.  Great stuff.

BTW, Going to see Brian Regan tonight in Boston. but WTF with the freaking snow?!

"Brian, what's the i before e rule?"
"I before e... ALWAYS."
"What are you, an idiot, Brian?"
"Apparently."

i before e except after c and when sounding like a as in neighbor and weigh, and on weekends and holidays and all throughout May, and you'll always be wrong no matter what you say!"
That's a hard rule. That's a— that's a rough rule.
Plurals were hard, too.
“Brian, how do you make a word a plural?”
“You put a ‘s’…put a ‘s’ at the end of it.”
“When?”
“On weekends and holidays!!!”
“No, Brian. Let me show you.” So she asked this kid who knew everything,Irwin. “Irwin, what’s the plural for ox?”
“Oxen. The farmer used his oxen.”
“Brian?”
(chuckling) “What?”
“Brian, what’s the plural for box?”
“Boxen. I bought 2 boxen of doughnuts.”
"No, Brian, no. Let's try another one. Irwin, what's the plural for goose?"
"Geese. I saw a flock of geese."
"Brian!"
(half-crying) "Wha-at?"
"Brian, what's the plural for moose?"
"MOOSEN!! I saw a flock of moosen! There were many of 'em. Many much moosen. Out in the woods—in the woodes—in the woodsen. The meese want the food. The food is to eatenesen. The meese want the food in the woodyesen! In the, food in the woodenesen!"
"Brian! Brian. You're an imbecile."
"Imbecile-n."
"What are you speaking? German, Brian?"
"German. Jermain. Jermaine Jackson. Jackson Five. Tito!"
"Brian, what the heck are you talking about!?"
"I don't know, I don't know really."

Had a date at the weekend, phoned to see if she wants to see again. She said "errr...errr" and put off an answer til today. Hopefully she doesn't leave it in the air but either way I figure it's time to move on unless she was just genuinely uncertain.
