Like those Austin cops actually give a shit about it.      It'd certainly be nice to not have to worry about it at all, but most Texas cops don't make you worry too much, anyway.  My guess is that the sort of behavior that'd be required to get you busted up here would get you busted out there, even with a card.

I gather the Sheriff's office down there likes to be hardassed.  However, mandatory minimums shouldn't really apply.  Texas is actually pretty generous in what constitutes a misdemeanor amount, and the county can only push things as far as the state will allow.  First offense misdemeanor possession actually has a mandatory probation provision, rather than any jail time.  Getting hooked up certainly sucks, but it's not the end of the world.

To be clear, they shouldn't be hassling dopers at all, much less taking them to jail for the night, but considering that up to a QP you're going to walk away with some community service, it's really not so bad.  And let's be fair, how many of us have actually every bought a QP entirely for personal use.

TX didn't always used to be so lax though - while I was living in WilCo back in the late 80s/early-mid 90s, you could get popped for having a seed in your car's ashtray () IF they had prior probable cause to perform a search of your car.  That certainly could have changed in the past 10 years or so, but the WilCo rep is still there.

I totally agree, though - dope smokers are NOT the problem.

There are plenty of places that'll still hook you up for small quantities, and this Wilco place might well be one of them.  I'm only suggesting that once you get sprung the next day, you're pretty much on with your life with a few hours of community service and maybe a wee bit of probation.  Cops have a ton of leeway as to whether or not they want to be assholes, and as we all know plenty of them get off on it, but the courts are obliged to mind the realities of the situation.

I will preface, that I live in New jersey, but am a BBQ nut. Thing about Q is that how it varies and each and every region is killer. Texas, the Carolinas, memphis, Kansas City. All killer. I am a brisket man myself, but give me a good Q and you have me.

Missed this one, I've done some competitions myself, hell of a lot of fun. My buddy has a kick ass Gatorpit trailer smoker we use, nothing like spending three days.in a field with 40 smokers going full tilt.

Not drowned.  A sauce is frequently used, but it isn't necessary.  Actually, NC is strange in that what kind of sauce is served depends on geography.  Eastern NC sauce is vinegar based and spicy, whereas Western NC sauce is thicker, tomato-based, and sweeter.  I like both, but prefer Western (which makes sense, I suppose).  But a little goes a long way - I prefer to taste the pork, the sauce should just be an accent.

I think I know where you're talking about.  However... Ironworks on Cesar Chavez and Red River downtown is stellar.  Green Mesquite on Barton Springs Road ain't bad either.

I have to agree with Barto - I've never been a fan of BBQ drowned in sauce, especially one that's too cloyingly sweet.  I probably wouldn't mind a spicier mix, but having not tried a vinegar-based sauce I'd be a bit leery of it at first.  My absolute favorite BBQ sauce is my Dad's, but I'd get killed if I shared the recipe.    It's not sweet, but it does have a little bite to it.  Sooooo freaking good.

In Lockhart I hit up Blacks.  The best sauce in the world would have been an insult to their brisket.  Smoke and cow in the right proportions are all you need.  I skipped Kreutz and Smitty's since I figured their notoriety probably worked against them.  A famed rivalry is great for business but poor for quality.
