On a bit of a DT kick tonight, hence the 2nd thread of the evening. Gone though Awake, Images, DT12 and Change of Seasons. Haven't heard some of those songs in years, it's been great to revisit them.

Anyway, best 3-song run. There are several contenders, for example:

Lifting Shadows Off A Dream - Scarred - Space Dye Vest.
Home - The Dance of Eternity - One Last Time
Blind Faith - Misuderstood - The Great Debate
Vacant - Stream of Consciousness - In The Name of God
The Bigger Picture - Behind The Veil - Surrender to Reason

And others.

But my vote goes for Blind Faith - Miusnderstood - The Great Debate. 3 absolutely exceptional songs on a near-flawless album.

Per Album:

-Ytse Jam-The Killing Hand-Light Fuse and Get Away
-Under A Glass Moon-Wait For Sleep-Learning to Live
-Lifting Shadows-Scarred-Space Dye Vest
-Burning My Soul-Hell's Kitchen-Lines in the Sand
-Homes-The Dance of Eternity-One Last Time, probably. This one was hard.
-The Glass Prison-Blind Faith-Misunderstood
-Vacant-Stream of Consciousness-In the Name of God
-Never Enough-Sacrificed Sons-Octavarium, for the last 2 songs. There was always one song in any 3 song run that didn't belong, so I picked the one with my favorite song on the album (8VM)
-In the Presence of Enemies, Pt. 1-Forsaken-Constant Motion
-The Shattered Fortress-The Best of Times-The Count of Tuscany
-Bridges in the Sky-Outcry-Far From Heaven
-The Bigger Picture-Behind the Veil-Surrender to Reason

Out of all of those, my favorites are probably Six Degrees and DT12. Not all of them are my absolute favorite DT songs (TGP is, and Blind Faith makes my top 10), those 2 sections of songs flow perfectly, and they're all incredible songs.

This... might actually, genuinely, be true for me. I'd have to really comb through the discography and see, but the only one I can think of that would be a definite contender against any of those would be Vacant—Stream of Consciousness—In the Name of God. But, yeah, IAW is far and away their best album and their most consistently great album. Even on my other top favorite DT albums, I'm hard pressed to find a run of three that is as consistently great as any three song run on IAW.

Outcry—Far From Heaven—Breaking All Illusions is worth mentioning, as is Hell's Kitchen—Lines in the Sand—Take Away My Pain. But I don't think they'd beat any IAW runs.

IaW: Take the Time, Surrounded, Metropolis
Awake: A Mind Beside Itself (is that cheating?)
FII: Burning My Soul, Hell's Kitchen, Lines in the Sand

Interesting question. I'm not going to list one run per album, will just list my favourites instead:

Pull Me Under - Another Day - Take the Time
Another Day - Take the Time - Surrounded
Take the Time - Surrounded - Metropolis pt.1 (in fact, if not for Under a Glass Moon, every three-songs-run on this album would be awesome)
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream - Scarred - Space-Dye Vest (this one earned a lot of appreciation after the last DT tour)
One Last Time - The Spirit Carries On - Finally Free
Vacant - Stream of Consciousness - In the Name of God (this one is my favourite out of these all)
Prophets of War - The Ministry of Lost Souls - In the Presence of Enemies pt. 2 (PoW is just alright, but the other two songs are outstanding)
Far from Heaven - Breaking All Illusions - Beneath the Surface

I agree with others who've said most of the best runs are on I&W! Not surprising really since it's my favourite album
