Predictions For The New Album
« on: June 10, 2015, 05:05:52 PM »
Predictions anyone?

Just for fun:  What date do you predict DT will give us an official update on the new DT13?

Guess the date of the update and whoever guesses the closest wins.  For extra credit see if you can guess the album release date.  Or whatever...

I think next Friday June 19th will be the day.  And they'll release the new album on Sept 28.  Yep that'll work!

And it will have some cheesy title like Nightmare Cinema Pt.2: The Rudess Vengeance  :P

You do know that from the front page of the forum, this reads "New Album Update..."

And for that, I hate you, OP.

Give how JP said they won't play any new material on this tour, and how awkward it would be to tour with a new single out but not playing it, I suspect the new single won't be released before August 2nd.
So, I think the lack of news will persist for quite some time.

There's going to be a song that starts off all quite like for a section then BAM wall of sound comes in with the main theme. Then after the intro, there will be a verse with an angry sounding LaBrie that leads into a prechorus. But instead of going to the chorus, they'll go to verse 2 first. Then prechorus again before that theme returns in full volume for the chorus. Then after a few bars of power chord transitions, JR comes in with a ripping solo with his signature patch sound. That will leader into a technically impressive solo by JP who will make it sound effortless. Then after a drumfill, they'll come in for a short unison. That will lead into another prechorus/chorus/repeat/outro thing song over.

I would like to know how are they gonna begin a tour late june and still work on an album. It's not sarcasm, I may be not aware of a certain methodology of theirs....anybody knows how this goes?

I see it as one of two things:

1) They've finished all tracking before the summer festivals and wait to mix/master when JP and the guys are off tour.

2) They finished basic tracks and need to return for solos, overdubs, and vocals (or something similar)

Hell, they could be completely done with it, but since they said no new material on the festival tour, that really makes me think it won't be a September release. Mostly because the last two releases they released a single before the summer festivals and the album came out early fall.

I think it is impossible to say simply because we have no idea where they are in the process.

True, but this forum wouldn't be DTF without baseless speculation.

:lol  My response was directed at zecawolf.  I mean, yeah, we can speculate about where they are in the process.  But no matter where they are, there are always any number of things that can potentially be done while on the road or after returning.

And I have no inside information, but I am expecting a double CD. Serious.

Sure there are. But I find it somewhat difficult to put an album together this way, I think it's very easy to lose focus. But that's me, Maybe they enjoy the "rest" between sessions.....

I think it's pretty safe to say that all the instruments are recorded (since JR went back into the studio weeks ago to "touch up" some stuff). Which means the mixing will definitely be done before they go on tour. The last thing remaining is mastering, and that can easily be done via email.

I definitely believe it's option 1.
So release date would be probably somewhere in November, not before.
In good times for a nice Christmas combo with the DVD/BR taken in the summer tour... Nothing over-produced, just a nice cut from shooting done in one of the most impressive locations they would go... (Definitely the one I' going to- can't beat it)  :tup

A November release date makes sense to me because:
For a good while up to and including ADTOE, they released in September and were touring by October.
DT12 saw them only start touring in January, almost 4 months after DT12's release.
They probably will release in November, just in time for the holiday season, and start touring in January like last time.

Yo dawg, we heard you like speculation, so we put speculation in your speculation so you can speculate your speculation while your speculation speculates speculation.

2:33 - 3:29 of Track 4 is going to be mind blowing

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

They haven't done a 10-track album yet, so I'll predict that. Longest track a "mid-length epic", 14-16 minutes.
