I'm waiting for Zappa Discography thread to check out something from him, but I'll keep this one in mind.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

To like Swans is to be masochistic, to digest such a long and complex album.

I honestly don't think it can be possible to do in one sitting. :lol I feel as if they were aware of this, thus why there are highlights and longer, post-rock tracks dotted throughout rather than concentrated in one part of the album. I also feel that that this is why both discs are more or less equal to me.

Fuck yeah, Colors.  The opening of the album never fails to suck me in to listening to the whole thing.

Tyrias got me into Brand New with Limousine - dat crescendo and solo dude, epic as fuck. Still have to give it more spins, but what I've heard so far is great. And although it can be an overwhelming listen, Colours is amazing, full of win :heart.

Yes, both albums are amazing, De-Loused is one of my favorite records. And I love the lyrics too, though I admit to not having a clue what the fuck they mean. :lol

Definitely give TMV a listen. Can't go wrong with either of their first two. De-Loused just happens to be my favorite. Very unique take on more modern prog.

Same here. :lol. It could seem at times that Cedric is just spitting nonsense, but I'd honestly prefer it that way than something too straight-forward or less eclectic. I still feel it perfectly compliments their style.

Flawless update.

As eclectic as these songs are, they retain a very strong sense of catchiness.

I totally agree, and I think that's the reason my interest in TMV wanes after De-Loused.  This is the album where their jamming and stuff sorta plays second fiddle to the actual songs, and that role is completely reversed the further into their career you go.  I find at least.  France The Mute gets a lot of praise but for me the lack of actual songs is what fucks it for me.

Amazing album. :heart :heart

I also find it amusing how cheerful Dan seems outside of Have a Nice Life, with his business and all. Quite a contrast. :lol

Wow.  I'm ashamed to say I've never heard or even heard of this album, though the way you describe makes me want to listen to it.  So I'm going to do that.  Fantastic writing, Guy.

EDIT: listening now, really enjoying it so far!  Its beautiful.  Although your title should say "Arrowheads (x75)" :lol

Definitely. :lol Though I honestly find it quite inspiring. He was clearly in a very dark place when he wrote this album, yet he was able to battle his demons. I've got nothing but love for the man.

No shame in that. :tup It's an overlooked gem in my opinion. And as long as I can get at least one person to give it a chance, I've done my part.

Another album I really should check. I like what I've heard of shoegaze/dream pop - don't know why I haven't deepened more into it yet.

Funny enough, I feel like I've listened to enough music since I began this list however many months ago that I feel I could probably re-do it, but none of my top ten has changed since I originally conceptualized it, so I'll simply continue this one.

I will finish it one day. :lol My write-ups for the top ten are freaking monsters to write, and I don't have all of the time in the world anymore, which is why I just decided to put it on hold and let other people go through with their lists while I try and complete mine--I felt kinda hoggish for stalling people up who probably already had their write-ups complete and ready to go.

The tl;dr version: Yes. :P

That's a completely reasonable question. :lol

Been musing about that recently. A bit of my top few picks has since changed, but I'll find a compromise. I'll continue this list, and get started on writing the next write-up soon. Give me a couple days most, this is happening. :hat
