The Orphan Black Thread
« on: June 07, 2015, 11:54:06 AM »
This is the only new show on TV I'm watching, and I'm surprised there's not already a thread for it.   I was under the impression that it's really quite popular.

Although the last couple of episodes have thrown things at you so fast that I may have to rewatch this season just to catch it all.   They really "machine gun" the plot at you.    Last night's episode in particular threw me in a few spots....

I know there's a few fans of the show here, but I don't remember if there was ever a thread for it until now.

I think season 3 has been a bit weak so far though compared to 1 and 2. But yeah, great show. It's crazy how well Tatiana Maslany plays each of her characters.

I agree.  That's one of the more fascinating aspects of the show.   And she totally gives each clone their own character.   Just being able to play 12 or so versions of the same "clone" and give them all their own personality should earn her the British version of an Emmy alone.

I am behind an episode or two this season, but I've followed it since season one.  Easily one of the best shows on TV, and Maslany has been criminally unrecognized by any awards shows for her performances.

I started this show a while back. I gave up at episode twelve. It wasn't necessarily a bad show, I just couldn't get into it.

Finally finished up last night.

Absolutely one of my favorite shows.  Sci-fi, weirdness, good character development, good acting.

I'm still really digging it...and I'm still on board for next year...but season 3 was still just a bit of a downswing after season two was so awesome.

I'll be interested in seeing where they go next.  The new twist with Rachel really threw me.

Finished season 3 yesterday, it really is a great show. I will say that S1 has by far been the best IMO, mainly because I love that aspect of someone pretending to be someone they're not and getting caught up in that person's life (Sarah taking over Beth's life) and also S1 had a lot of figuring out what was happening, and by the time S2 came around it felt like a lot of the big mysteries were solved and it became more a suspenseful thriller almost that didn't have that many mysteries, and was slightly more streamlined I guess. I started to lose some interest in S2 and watched the show less frequently, but IMO it picked up again in S3 which I liked. It dragged slightly in the beginning, but I thought it ended really strong, and that episode (nr 8 I think) with Cosima playing Allison and all the shenanigans at the school was really intense, despite not having that high stakes.  :lol

See, and I almost lost it in Season 3 because it just didn't keep my suspense up.    But the new season 4 is really back on track IMO.   I'm REALLY liking where Season 4 is going!!

I watched (and enjoyed) season 1. I just never watched season 2 and now I'm a bit behind. Theoretically this is somewhere on my list of stuff I should get around to watching, but there's a fair bit ahead of it.

Season 4 finale was last night.  Pretty cool.  Any other thoughts?

Also, season 5 will be the final season for the show.

Yeah, it's too bad there will only be one more season.  But not sure how much longer they can keep Tatiana Maslany all to themselves.  And 5 seasons is a good number.  I'm looking forward to it.

I absolutely *ADORED* Seasons 1 and 2.   Season 3 lost me a bit.   But my wife and step son are still enjoying the rest, and are super pumped for the ending.  I've been meaning to catch up, and haven't done it yet.   Maybe when I'm on vacation in two weeks.

Started watching this last week and am halfway through season 2 already. It's a great show so far.

Maslany is absurdly talented. It's almost a masterclass in all the different little things that completely change how a character comes across - gait, mannerisms, voice, expressions - to the point where it's easy to forget it's the same actress playing all these characters.

should earn her the British version of an Emmy alone.
I know this is a really old post I'm quoting, but just wanted to point out that she isn't British, she's Canadian. Her British accents are decent, though not perfect - she sounds a bit Australian at times (by contrast, the guy that plays Felix is also Canadian and his English accent is perfect). That really is the only thing that isn't superb about her performances though, and even that she's pretty good at.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

Since you're in the middle of it, I won't give any spoilers.....other than to say that the ending is good......felt a bit safe, but it was satisfying.
