An Evening with 2016... My Setlist
« on: May 03, 2015, 07:56:36 PM »
So.. Lately I've been wondering if DT will abandon the Evening With... Format once again for this 2016 upcoming tour, which I anxiously wait for, or if they will retain the same as the 2014 Tour.

Also, I would like it to have a consistent setlist once again like the previous one, idk, I just enjoyed it better than having a random setlist.
(Edit: Core songs being left consistent, like in the past, and other ones being set in rotation. Yeah, I think knowing what they are going to play isn't so interesting.

One of the things I would like to see for this tour's shows, is a full perfomance of A Change of Seasons for the encore or middle-show, since, you know, it's been 20 years since ACoS EP (Altho by the time the tour begins, it will be 21 years buut Score was in 2006 so it doesn't matter).
Also, it would be awesome to have some Octavarium back on the table. I am aware that they generally don't celebrate 10 years for an album, making an exception here would be pretty cool (Imagine Octavarium and ACoS played back to back?)
PS: Not to make a constroversy or something, but I saw somewhere a guy being worried about Rudess's age becoming a problem for exhaustive tours, what do you think? I think he's still pretty cool and in shape for everything.

What is special about the Evening With... in opposition to other DT concerts?

With "An Evening With" style shows, there are no opening bands to support them, which means DT is their own draw to the crowds, and instead of playing like 80-120 min. like most bands would do for their headlining shows, DT has the options to play 2.5-3 hour shows.  This kind of structure gives DT more flexibility in terms of picking what sort of songs they want to play.

One part of DT's set lasts maybe a hour, take a break for 15 min. or something, and they play another set for 1.5 hours or longer (also, that 2nd set would pretty much represent the overall theme of the tour).

Yeah that would kick all kinds of ass.
From the ocean comes the notion that the realise lies in rhythm. The rhythm of vision is dancer, and when you dance you´re always on the one. From the looking comes to see, wondrous realise real eyes....

He seems well enough. Even when I've went to see them towards the end, the guy still seems in good shape. I wouldn't worry too much. As for songs I'd like to see?
Take the Time - I've never seen it live
A Change of Seasons - 20th Anniversary
Something from Majesty Demo's again - They did it for the 20th Anniversary on the Octavarium Tour. Maybe also this one?
The Glass Prison - I don't think they've done it live for a while, and, the performance of Shattered Fortress shows that they're willing to play songs from the 12-Steps.

By the time the 2016 tour rolls, it will have been 11.5 years since the last performance of ACOS. As one of the most iconic and well-regarded composition, I believe, barring an exceptionally long new album or a non-AEW show, the song is likely to come under the spotlight again.

I'd like to see them do Octavarium, but other then that I'd just like to see "The Evening With" format.  100% pure DT! :metal

Yeah, It would be so orgasmic to see them perform that as an encore or something, played right after the new album's epic (If there is one, which I hope so)

10 year aniversery of Octivarium this year. Maybe a couple selections from that. Also 15th aniversry of six degrees in 2016. Maybe an encore of the entire 42 min titular song???
I know the Aries Code & I enjoy the right to date.

Well, they're about to play THIS year.. Only one month left..

I'd say if the're going to play ACoS (hopefully), that would be in this 'summer' tour.. The song's anniversary is this year, not the next one..

Except that this is not a full tour.
And also, there will be no Evening With... in this tour.
My guess is they would rather play other stuff at these festivals than ACoS, or, in other cases, they could play it but in parts, like they did in Once in a livetime. I highly doubt they would do a full performance of the song.
I also think there is no reason why they wouldn't play it again at the next tour, after all, the song has way more fans on this side of the world than over there, that's for sure.

I'd rather they save on the set time and settle for a one time performance of ACOS on its anniversary date in October.   They can announce it beforehand for anyone that wants to make the trip to see it live.

What?? I shouldn't have to travel to see a song. A song that iconic should be in the set. It's probably worth any trade off in time that they have.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Yup, it is iconic and I hope you do get to see it (guess you were not at the show in Boston 2004?).  I'm only being selfish because I've seen it live twice and therefore want to save the set time for other songs I've yet to see live.  But I get where you're coming from.

Set 1
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
In The Presence of Enemies
Illumination Theory

Set 2
Metropolis Part 2
Octavarium

Encore
A Change of Seasons

Agreed it would, but that would end up being a close to four hour show. Not sure how feasible that is

I like the aCoS idea.  With the way it came out - being played live, requested more, then recorded different version - I think a 30th anniversary version would be kinda cool.  No major changes so you don't lose the nostalgia aspect.  Maybe even revive some of the original versions.

Just kind of thinking out loud here  . . . .

Here's my take on the setlist:

Pull Me Under
The Looking Glass
Another Hand / The Killing Hand
--- // Lights on, greeting and introduction to the show
Innocence Faded
Lines In The Sand
Panic Attack
Bridges In The Sky
--- // Lights on, introduction to a block of songs that have never (or almost never) been played live, old and new
The Way It Used To Be
The Bigger Picture
Behind The Veil
Surrender To Reason
Metropolis Pt.1
--- // Encore //
A Change Of Seasons

Totalling 125 minutes.

Or something much more traditional, some sort of a Greatest Hits setlist

Metropolis Pt.1
Another Day
Another Hand / The Killing Hand
Home
Peruvian Skies (or) Hollow Years
I Walk Beside You (or) Panic Attack
Solitary Shell
The Looking Glass
The Bigger Picture
Behind The Veil
Surrender To Reason
Beneath The Surface
As I Am

---
The Spirit Carries On
Take The Time

1.
Behind The Veil
The Glass Prison
Innocence Faded
Lines In The Sand
Hell's Kitchen
Blind Faith
The Bigger Picture

2.
Home
Another Won
The Looking Glass
Misunderstood
Panic Attack
Solitary Shell
Surrender To Reason

3.
This Dying Soul
Disappear
A Change Of Seasons

These are the songs I guess DT will pull out this year. I couldn't mix them all into a short setlist, so if I had to choose, it would turn out like this:

Behind The Veil
Another Won
Home
The Looking Glass
Dissapear

Lines In The Sand
Hell's Kitchen
Blind Faith
Innocence Faded
The Bigger Picture

Surrender To Reason
