Had an awesome night at the Haken show last night in NYC at The Studio in Webster Hall. Great intimate venue of like 300 so you're right on top of the band and Haken was outstanding.

Since Portnoy's son Max is the drummer in one of the opening acts (Next To None), there was expectations that he'd be in attendance since he introduced the band with the performance in Chicago a few days earlier.

Walking to the venue, we passed the blue beard man himself. And indeed not only did he introduce the band, but his wife was onstage helping to setup.

But, completely unexpected was when Jordan came onstage to play a a solo during Haken's set-end number (Visions) rocking the MorphWiz - and Portnoy closed the encore (Crystallized) by striking the gong - as he did for Haken during the production of the Restoration EP.

Even cooler was seeing them both on stage together taking bows with Haken at the end.

My son and I secretly hoped an impromptu performance with the remaining DT members joining Haken on stage for an encore would have been awesome...

It's heartwarming to me that they were together and seemingly, from MP's recent Q&A, are speaking regularly and appear to be friends
again. One down and one to go. If MP and JP can ever get to this point  I would feel so much better about the whole damn thing.
Life is short man...just try to be friends again.

Jordan is such a geek.  Jamming on a hand-held device.

Yeah, I'm jealous.

That is true.  I doubt we're ever going to see a live release called Haken: Live From Hobbiton.

Great show!  I asked Jordan about the new album after the show, and all he said is it's coming along nicely.

Bruckner, it looks you were directly behind Nick, as the back of his head is in all three of your shots!

I agree life is short.  That is why people should just concentrate on those they get along with and who don't say hurtful things about them in the press.

Just because there is a void in your life because JP is not friends with MP doesn't mean that JP has a void in his life.

Well yeah apparently.  You don't feel good about them not speaking.  I never suggested you lose sleep or cry over it.  And I'm assuming they don't either.

They have a history together but their relationship has changed.  Why should they "fix" that?  For the sake of nostalgia?

Because as Talented as JP is it is probably because of Mike that DT reached the level of popularity that they did with his promotion of the band etc.    They made some great music together.

After MP left DT, JR was the most articulate and straight-forward about how MP's influence on the band had become too much, and that the new dynamics in the band were a positive step.

Now, four years later, JR's the only member of the band MP still has a public bond with.  Life is funny.

Jordan also seems to be the most level-headed and objective about the whole thing.  Yes, Mike's "influence" over the band had grown to the point where it no longer felt like a collaboration of equals.  Differences of personalities, etc., none of which is really the point here.  The point is that Jordan also recognizes that none of that makes Mike a "bad guy" and he has no problem hanging with him.  It's not like they parted ways screaming curses at each other.

I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future -- or, who knows, it may have already happened -- Mike and Jordan have a beer together, talk a bit about the many years and great times they had playing together, and agree that it all kinda sucked how it went down.

i mean mike came to the Rudess Morgenstein show in philly a while back and they chatted and hung out backstage for a while, that was the first time i'd seen any of them together since the split and i was shocked, but not too crazy since mike is about an hour or two out of philly.  that was a cool moment to see  :tup

I guess that's all I'm saying.  It's not like they hate each other and are carrying grudges.  I know that Mike had/has enormous respect for Jordan, and I assume that it's reciprocated at least in part.
