Edge of Seventeen - I really liked this movie. The first 10 minutes were beyond predictable, and I thought I wasn't going to like it, but the performances and cleverness really elevated it to me. And the dude who played her love interest is my new favorite guy.

The Big Sick - Amazing movie. Way better than it needed to be or should have been. Incredible writing. Incredible performances from literally everyone. Also included the best 9/11 joke I've ever heard.

Watched Blair Witch Project for the first time. It wasn't exactly great, but it was pretty interesting to see how it was shot.

Also this might be slightly of topic, but i think it's still relevant here. This video is spot on!

https://youtu.be/KAOdjqyG37A

Blair Witch had to be seen at the time of its release to be fully appreciated.  The use of the internet to help push the mystery of the whole concept was really never done before.  It was a true lightning in the bottle moment.

Agreed... plus, there was a lot of legitimate belief that it was non-fiction.

That was big draw for me, that it was purported to be actual "found footage".  The Blair Witch Project was, in that way, the first of a new genre, and at the time, it really was believed to be found footage.  Scared the hell out of people, too.  I never got around to seeing it, then eventually it was revealed to be an actual produced film, so I completely lost interest.  But it was well done, the whole marketing and presentation.  It could never be repeated today.

As a little kid at the time I thought I was really frightened because I truly believed it was real found footage.

I knew it wasn't real when I first saw it when it came out, but I still thought it was one of the scariest movies of all time and I still think it's one of the scariest movies of all time and I have seen about 2000 horror movies. It's true that what you don't see can be much scarier.

That's good to hear.  I mean, you know it's just a movie, but you still "allow" yourself to be scared, to get sucked into it.  It makes sense; movies can make you feel happy or sad or pissed or whatever, a movie can also make you scared if you're on the ride.

When I watch a movie that is supposed to be scary I want to be scared. I don't understand people who go into movies that are supposed to be scary trying not to be scared. What's the point of watching a scary movie if you don't want to be scared?

Completely agree. Some people I know love going into horror movies only to brag about how it didn't scare them, I like to get invested.

Had been eyeing 'Sicario' for some time and finally watched it last night. I liked it. It wasn't groundbreaking or anything but all in all I enjoyed it and was glad to finally see it

I read a while back they were planning a sequel.

I watched Girls Trip ... not bad, same genre as Bridesmaids, The Hangover.

American Made with Tom Cruise .. (two films within a few months, this is more Tom Cruise than I probably want to see)
I was dragged along .. but the film was really good, based on a True Story set back in the 80's, done really well, worth seeing.  :)

Saw the new King Arthur movie. It was unconventional enough to be interesting, but unfortunately not enough to be really good. It also got waaay too video gamey towards the end.

Excellent movie.  Great mix of horror combined with some comedy and I thought it was a great performance from the main children.  I actually just watched the original as well this week and while it wasn't quite as scary as I remember when it came out, it was pretty good too.  A little long to watch in one sitting.

The new one is one of the best horror movies Ive seen in recent memory and interested to see where the sequel leads.

Finally saw Baby Driver, such a fun movie. The music was on point and so well edited with the scenes. Enjoyable throughout!

Of course the new one ;) Well, maybe it wasn't perfect but definitly I wasn't dissapointed. Pennywise was totally different from the original, maybe sometimes a little bit cheesy, but he had madness in his eyes. Anyway, You can't beat Tim Curry. What I liked the most was the way in which the story was told. A lot of good humour and jokes from the main characters. It was fun to watch, but it wasn't scary at all for me ;)

'Gifted'. Fantastic movie.

'Transformers: The Last Knight'. Absolutele garbage and one of the worst movies I've seen. White noise of cinema, absolutely incomprehensible.

Yes. I think I liked it too. Just took me some time to really process.

It seems to be hated, almost to the point of it being cool to hate it for the same exact reasons. It has its problems, but overall, I was a fan.

Freaks (1932).

If this movie came out today people would probably call it exploitative or insensitive but the titular "freaks" aren't the monsters of this movie.

Last thing I watched was Casino on Sunday. Never gets old.
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

Lost River: I have no clue why this one got so panned at Cannes and elsewhere, was relly interesting. Amazing mood and cinematography, and setting and characters were quite appealing. Some say it's style over substance, and while it may be somewhat true, it's also part of the point. Definitely more interesting than Drive, maybe cuz Gosling just directed instead of starring it :P 4/5

American Psycho: Don't know, some scenes and lines were hilarious and quite fun, and lots were cringe or just downright bad, mostly all the sex ones. Great acting tho. 2.5/5

First saw American psycho when I was 15 and loved it, and still love it. The searing and biting satire of 80's yuppie culture is marvelous, and I've always loved black comedy horror and American psycho is one hell of a ride.

But I can see why people wouldn't like it.

The Lego Ninjago Movie-
I loved The Lego Movie and The Lego Batman Movie, but this movie just lacked the charm and humour of those. On the surface it was similar, but none of the jokes were working for me, and the plot was very much rehash of the first movie. For the first 5-10 minutes of the other movies, I couldn't stop laughing, but 5-10 minutes into this one, I already felt it was a flop. It wasn't bad in the end, but definitely not one I'd recommend even to fans of the other movies.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

I thought this movie was hilarious, the action scenes were amazing. It was a through and through an entertaining movie. It's not as tight as the first one, the pacing is a bit off at times but I thought the story was great.

Same here. I didn't care for it the first time I saw it, but I caught some of it on cable a while after that and loved it.

I absolutely love the ending.
