Last night I saw Star Trek Beyond for the first time. It looks fantastic, but somehow it was quite boring. How do you guys rate it ?

Thanks MrBoom_shack-a-lack. Without your post I'd skip the movie.
Oh, and if Interstellar and The Martian are deep movies, I don't like deep movies. The only deep I can see in them, is when....

My favourite Trek movie since Undiscovered Country. Easily the best of the last 3.

Less contrivances and the story makes sense.

Last action hero

I love this movie, but I think It was misunderstood when it was originally released. I don't blame people for expecting another by the book Arnold action movie, but Last action hero is SO much more. The satire is damn good and hilarious and its just a really fun watch.

Last action hero's soundtrack was one of the first cd's that I fell in love with when I was young.

I love how it's actually making fun of Arnold's action movies, and some people still didn't get it.

I was in school when I saw it and I got it. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult. But some people think the Earth is flat... soooo....

I remember laughing so hard at the scene where Arnie and the kid do that crazy car stunt onto a bridge and land it - then a few seconds later - in the background - you just see the bad guys van attempt

the same thing but crash and blow up :rollin

That's one of my favorite parts.

They are just casually talking and in the background you see the van fly up and flip over and explode.  :rollin

Whoopi Goldberg is great.

Love her as Guinan in TNG and in Ghost too.

That woman is painful to watch. I was secretly hoping for her character to die in Ghost. And Sister Act is god awful.

That being said, I watched Ocean's 12 and Vanilla Sky yesterday.

Last action hero's soundtrack was one of the first cd's that I fell in love with when I was young.
Same here, I think that and the soundtrack to Demon Knight - Tales from the Crypt were the two favorite soundtracks I owned as a teenager. It's also strange that I've yet to see both those movies so many years later.

Eh ? It's explained in the movie ? He was in a nightmare the whole time ( after the crash ). He wakes up at the end and decides to go on living in reality.

Love Vanilla Sky so much. It always gets me teary eyed at some point in the movie.

I recently watched Magnificent Seven. Pretty good, dumb action flick. Funny and cool to see Denzel and Hawke together again but in a Western movie where Denzel was the good guy and Hawke was kind of the slimy dude (if still good). Overall entertaining but nothing more, which is totally fine because we need movies like that. In that regard, pretty darn good.

Zootopia - I avoided it for a long time because it looked silly and it had way too much hype, but man it was actually really great. Also, the balls on Disney to put a very obvious Breaking Bad reference in a kid's movie. Love it. Just a good movie.

Mary Poppins - Hadn't seen it in a very very very long time. Man, this movie is just so magical. It's a slap in the face of pessimism and cynicism. Sometimes you just want to escape to a world where even the homeless people, the lowest workers and the horribly corrupt bankers are all equally jolly and jovial.

The Running Man.

I hadn't seen the film for many years, the first thing that caught me of guard was that the film is set in 2017 - needlessly to say they didn't get much right with technology!  Decent enough film, typical Arnie 80's fare - plenty of one liners!

The best thing to do setting your film 30 years in the future is don't change too much.

it's 2017 now and compared to 1987 it's just small changes. Computers mainly. iPads iPhones. Small gadgets.

We will NEVER have flying cars etc. Not as standard anyway.

Have you seen it yet? Interested to hear your opinion.

Using the word deep for The Martian was probably wrong, I think "a more serious sci-fi" is a better word.

Not yet. I'll write down a few lines, when I have seen it.
Would you say it needs to be seen on the big screen or will a DVD be sufficient ?

The 1995 anime movie - Ghost in The Shell. Holy Crap! What an amazing movie. The movie has incredible atmosphere and the story is fantastic. In many ways it looks like the Matrix movie took inspiration from this anime though I don't know if that true.
I'm very surprised this wasn't made into a live action movie much earlier. Hopefully the movie, even though isn't supposed to be a direct remake, will be just as great. I see there are several episodes of the anime as well, I'll have to catch up on it sometime.

Ghost in the shell is one of my favorite movies. Its visuals are incredible and the story/philosophy is thought provoking.

I hope the live action movie delivers

The Jamie Lee Curtis strip tease scene in True Lies is pretty pretty pretty good.
