I had the most weird and random movie craving I've had in a long time. I felt earlier today that I just had to watch The Green Hornet with Seth Rogen, so I did. It was fun. Not very good, but fun.

The Martian.

If you've seen the trailer, you can save yourselves 2.5 hours.

I don't understand the thinking behind today's trailers, they almost always show way too much and give away way too much of the film.
Is all that we see or seem, but a dream within a dream?

I loved the hell out of that film. That said, I never saw a single trailer for it so it fits!

Yeah, trailers these days by and large suck the big one; most of 'em are equally horribly edited, overly long/revealing and some even paint a picture of an entirely different film than what the actual film is (hey there, any-indie-film-marketed-for-large-audiences).

DTP says "WOW, LOOK AT THAT GREAT POST"
RIP DTP.

I almost watched that earlier, but then asked myself why, and watched some more episodes of New Girl.   :lol

Watched Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey last night and Pee Wee's Big Adventure today. Needed some laughs and utter ridiculousness.

I haven't seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure in a long time. I was so surprised to find out Tim Burton directed that. Both Bill & Ted movies are classics.

I haven't seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure since I was a kid. I don't know what I'd think of it now.
I've always loved both Bill and Ted movies though. I caught Bogus Journey on TV a few weeks ago, even though I have them both on DVD anyway.

I do that with many movies - watch them on TV when I can just throw on the DVD. I'm not sure what it is, nostalgia I guess.

I put it down to laziness and convenience. You might not feel like watching a movie, but when it's put in front of you, you'll watch it.

I hadn't seen Big Adventure in a very long time/didn't remember it well. It was a lot of fun. Not at all surprised by the Tim Burton thing- it kinda has his name all over it.

:lol  You're a pro at that Blob.

As far as PWBA being Tim Burton, when I first saw the movie when I was 10 years old, I didn't know what a Tim Burton was.   :lol   That was the first and only time I ever saw it. I should revisit it though.

Steven King's Storm of the century

Yeah...I'm conflicted on this. Now I give it mad props for keeping me engaged for its 4 and a half hour running time, but if felt like a bait and switch as well, which is further complicated by investing so much time in it. Overall, I really enjoyed watching it though.

The next part is spoilery for anyone who still wants to see it.

The picture that they paint in that first 1-2 hours is that this dude is the devil. He's satan coming up from hell for whatever reason, knows all these people's sins and taunts them about their afterlife being in hell. "born in sin, come on in". But then it swerves and "oh a wizard did it", literally. He literally is some medieval, before-time, mean guy wizard, who just wants to cause some chaos and get "what he wants". That's my one and only issue with it. Otherwise I enjoyed watching it.

Today for the first time I watched Along Came a spider and then Kiss the girls

I enjoyed Along came a spider when I watched it but after watching Kiss the girls, I realized it pales in comparison. All I can say it  Wow, Kiss the girls was so damn good. I loved it.

Never saw the former.  I saw the latter and have memories of really enjoying it.  ...but unfortunately, that is ALL I remember about it.  Was Geena Davis in that one as well, or am I thinking of a different movie?

EDIT:  Never mine.  That was The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Agreed. Much better than Inarritu's last IMO ;)

I watched The D-Train last night. Wtf? :lol
It had some funny moments but was pretty dumb. And Jack Black's character is so fucking unlikable! Why am I supposed to give a shit about him?
I got it for butt sex, which I was promised, but that was only a few seconds. There is a great scene that takes place between James Marsden and JB's son. Otherwise pretty forgettable.

So some say this might be a Cloverfield sequel:

10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer

I loved Cloverfield so i'm all over this if it's true although it looks cool either way.

I found Cloverfield to be kind of whatever. Some nice stuff along the way, but it fizzled towards the end to me.
To me this doesn't look directly connected to Cloverfield, but another movie along the same lines that I guess fits within a Cloverfield franchise. Either that, or they made a generic monster movie and named it Cloverfield for marketing purposes. :P Doesn't interest me at all based on that.

Cool... doubt I'll shell out the coin to see it in the theaters, but I'll catch this on download or Netflix or somethin.

Abrams tells us it’s a “blood relative”, which seems to suggest that the movie isn’t a direct sequel to Cloverfield but instead takes place within the same universe.

Last movie I've seen is H8ful 8. And it was good. Not best, but solid and somewhat different. Very bleak, too - in fact, probably Tarantino's bleakest film so far (with the possible exception of Reservoir Dogs), at times gut-wrenching (just as RD were), but also slightly overlong. I mean, I get the movie's supposed to be epic, what with it being filmed in Ultra Panavision 70 and everything, but the substance's really not enough in places. It was a bit tiring, after all. But still, I enjoyed it and I will definitely see it again, maybe on home video, though.

Liked the Morricone score and liked all the shout outs to Carpenter's the Thing (including the score! Does this mean it's been officially acknowledged Morricone actually did work on the Thing and that his soundtrack kicked ass? I hope so).

Tonight we're going to see the Revenant.
"They want to qualify their boys for jobs in the modern world. You can hardly blame them, can you?"
"Oh yes," said Scott-King. "I can and do." [...]
