Saw the latest Maze Runner movie. I liked it, just like I enjoyed the first one. Very well shot too, that's something I noticed quite early.

I'm onboard with this franshise. It's not a very original concept by now, but it's still enjoyable, and I'm interested to see more.

I speak to someone on Twitter who LOVES Thomas Sangster and I was like " oh yeah - I met him a few times "

And she was like  :sadpanda: WHAT

Edge of Tomorrow

The same thing only different.  The same thing only better.  I liked how just when you thought you kinda figured out what was going on, it changed, more or less mimicking (ha!) what happens to the characters in the film.  It wasn't just Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers, or whatever people were saying, but I can see what they might say that.

It was good.  Hard to sum up right now, still gathering thoughts.  I guess that's good.  Lots to think about.

Also probably the last time either of Travolta / Cage were in a decent movie.

No way, Cage has been in lots of good stuff since then. Lots of bad stuff too, but still. I mean, Bringing Out the Dead, Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Kick-Ass, Joe. And some that I would say are aiight, not terrible. Travolta, you're possibly right. I'm not as familiar with his stuff.

But yeah, I'm sure we've discussed this before but Face/Off is just full of fucking gold. Even the pistols  :lol

Matchstick Men is one of my favorite movies. I'm really into movies and books about con men. My second favorite group of criminals right after mafiosi.

John Travolta has accidentally been in some good films.

He has also been in plenty of shit films, but mostly because he is a talentless hack.

Can't agree there.  John Travolta puts himself fully into every role, be it crap or non-crap, and I find him very entertaining to watch.  Regardless of how ridiculous, or just plain bad, his characters are, I buy into them.  Travolta sells it.  That's all you can ask of an actor, and he delivers.

If you say so.

I think he is pretty often an awful overactor, and largely not talented; I have seen him be outrageous, but very rarely subdued or introspective.  I think he was in the right place at the right time at the beginning of his career, and then after he burned out and almost faded away Quentin Tarantino rescued his career with Pulp Fiction.  For about a decade or so thereafter, he rode that wave of popularity and got into some other good situations (see Face/Off), but eventually his true colors resurfaced and his crappy output continued.

Just the way I see it.

I don't think he's that great. There's a lot of redundancy to his methods and nothing that seems fresh.

Since Face Off, the only movies I thought he was anywhere decent in was Be Cool and The General's Daughter.  For every one of those, there's a Swordfish, Punisher, and Battlefield Earth.  He's more likely to be terrible than great.

Trainwreck. Fitting title. The scenes with John Cena were the funniest parts of the movie. I hope none of his younger ever stumble across this movie though. They'd be scarred for life.

Get Shorty is freaking awesome, so Travolta, if nothing else, has two awesome films that he starred in (Pulp Fiction being the other, obviously).

Face/Off is a big cheeseball fest, but I still enjoy it.

Speaking of Travolta, Scientology-member and all that, here's a segway..  Watched Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation yesterday.

I thought the movie was ok, Tom Cruise was doing most of his stunts and running as usual. The Syndicate was somewhat underdeveloped IMO, they could have been more sinister than they were.

Some things should just be left alone.  Speaking of that, I heard they're remaking Memento.

I watched Belle de Jour last night. It was aiight. Came very hyped up, so that didn't help. I'm sure it was a big deal in the sixties, but meh. I also didn't like what felt like the message of it. This woman is basically seen as messed up from shit that happened in her childhood and exploring her sexual desires ruins her life and her husband's life. Ugh  :\

It was pretty groundbreaking.  Very tame by today's standards, but practically softcore porn back then.  It helped that Catherine Deneuve was incredibly pretty.  But movies like this are practically destined to not age well.  I tried to watch it again a few years ago on some cable channel, and couldn't get through it.

Bridge Of Spies...hmm I don't know. Ok movie, I say that because I dozed off in the middle of the movie. Alot of dialogue mixed with not enough sleep, not a good combination. The two train scenes were Donovan first got the evil eye from the lady and later a smile felt a bit to cheesy imo.

Oh yeah, she is just so gorgeous! Looking at her the whole time saves it (and I do love the opening fantasy scene) but still definitely didn't age well. I do appreciate what a big deal it must have been when it was released, though.
