I watched Casino last night for the first time. I liked it for the most part.

That scene with Joe Pesci and his brother in the corn fields is brutal

Yeah, that kind of came out of nowhere. While watching Pesci get beat, I was saying to Victoria "I would have made him crawl in the hole on top of his brother before killing him"... then the movie one-upped me.

Hey, we watched Thor Ragnorok on Saturday night, too!  Coincidence?  Yeah, probably.

Well, given that it was just released on BR/DVD last week, it probably actually isn't a coincidence at all.  :lol

I don't keep track of stuff like that.  My wife came home with the Blu-ray from Redbox, so we watched it.  I might've been out for weeks or months for all I knew.

The idea is good. The special effects and cinematography are good.

Darkman. Really fun movie, I think this would work really well if they remade it as a netflix series.

Agree completely. I don't know that I've been as let down by a movie as I was with this one given that a movie reviewer I follow on Twitter who for the most part I 'agree' with 98% of his reviews and trust completely as far as movies go.....said this movie was incredible and a must see.

Like you said, good concept but it just fails to go anywhere and all the characters were flat. Visually stunning though.

I've had a couple buddies tell me they loved it also. It was a miss for me but that's the beauty of movies (and Music)   :tup

Not only the characters were flat, it was also totally illogical. I don't want to go into details because then I would have to give spoilers.

I agree with all of this.  I'd say this film reminded me of the TV show 'Lost' lots of random stuff happened (Inc a bear), characters acted like complete morons, a character backstory being played out though the narative - and then there ends really on a really underwhelming way.

Yeah, and cinematography alone doesn't make a film. Unless you are Tarkovsky.

That's super disappointing. I absolutely loved Ex Machina

???  What's the point of posting on an Internet discussion forum if you won't give enough details to have a discussion?

Honestly, it's hard to believe the same dude made them both. Ex Machina was a really good movie....IMO Annihilation wasn't even in the same ballpark outside of being stunning visually.

Because there are people around here who haven't watched the movie and I have enough consideration not to spoil anything about it. I don't like when people do it, so I don't do it either. And I mean.. everywhere on the internet or in real life people hate spoilers. If you haven't watched the movie and you are interested, what's the point of reading what happens in it? None. The less you read the better.

In preparation for The Last Jedi, I rewatched a Star Wars movie.

The one that begins with the evil dude in the black armor looking for information that escapes thanks to a droid to a sandy planet, and then there's the loner protagonist that has to get away and the evil guys in the middle of the movie blow up a planet and then in the climax they prepare to blow up another planet only to get defeated at the last minute, while the old mentor dies at the hands of the black armored dude.

(I'm talking about The Force Awakens of course)
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Watched the Shape of Water last night. While an entertaining and fairly well done movie, totally baffled as to how it got best picture. The storyline was predictable as fuck, and really not that intense or challenging, and nothing else about it really stood out and wowed me.

Same here. That's why I called it "oscar grab". It had that shade of green in the camera to make it look depressing, dark. It had that shots in the bus while she looks out of the window and it is raining outside and everything looks so pretty and it gives that "oh-my-god-everything-is-so-beautiful vibe". It had a soundtrack made by someone who already got an Oscar for doing soundtracks. Taking all these and many others into account, the watcher is already "hooked" when actually the story is pretty obvious, even silly in a way. Like.. from the moment the girl sees the creature for the first time and shows compassion and pity, you can already know approximately how the story is going to unfold and even end.

Plus the fact that she can't speak and looks so innocent and defenseless, all that helps the watcher sympathize with the character immediately. Her acting was amazing, but I still think that Francis McDormand really deserved that Oscar. And Three Billboards was a much, much better and interesting movie. Maybe the best movie of 2017.

honestly that's just the type of film Del Toro usually makes........well except Pacific rim. If anything the only knock i have against him as a director is that he has similar themes in all his movies. I love all of his movies so I can forgive him but he obviously has a thing for making the scary monsters the good guys in his movies.

The scene in the bus was foreshadowing.  Just like the scars.she could manipulate the water.  That scene was beautiful.

Lara Croft - Tomb Raider.

Just wanted an action movie to watch while I was up with the baby at night.  Plus, Angelina.  Oh, and Iain Glen in a very pre-Jorah Mormont role, looking rather young and suave, and an even younger looking Daniel Craig, pre-Bond.

I'm really interested in the Reboot that came out this past weekend. Gonna take my two oldest to see it when we get a free night. It looks like it'd be a cool action movie.

Black Panther

Amazing visuals, set design, soundtrack... all that.  First-class production values.  I was good with the story until the long-lost brother cousin showed up and started messing things up, at which point I got lost because as much as they tried to distinguish them clearly, a lot of the characters looked basically the same to me and I got all confused.  Someone had an army of armored rhinos which was pretty cool.  I think he was a good guy, and the long-lost brother cousin was defeated.  In fact, I would assume so, because it wouldn't do to have a Black Panther who's evil and has some kind of revenge agenda.

But it all looked and sounded amazing, and honestly, for a Saturday matinee with the wife, that's more important anyway.

Look, I'm not going to get sucked into this.  I shouldn't have said anything.  At this point, there is nothing I can say that doesn't make me sound like a collossal racist asshole, and I am trying very hard not to be.  I can't imagine that I'm the only person who's seen this movie who had this issue, but maybe I just have a shitty imagination.

It’s all good. White people generally look the same to me.

Speaking of too many white people, I saw A Stupid and Futile Gesture. It’s a weird comedy biopic about the founder of National Lampoon. Has a ton of strange and clever 4th wall breaking narrative.

Over all I really liked it.

Just sitting down for Tomb Raider, a reboot of a movie series based on a video game series. It's gotta be good right?
