Speaking of Vincent Price...

The Abominable Dr. Phibes
Dr. Phibes Rises Again!

Wow, early 70's cheesy horror schlock at its finest.  Of course, back in the 70's when I first saw these, it wasn't cheesy horror schlock, it was what horror movies really were.  The first one in particular scared the crap out of me.  Now... whoa.  Still fun movies, but really, really bad by today's standards.

Those movies along with theater of blood were meant to be cheesy fun. So mission accomplished lol

Yeah, I guess they were.  I mean, I sure hope they were.  But I was nine years old in 1971, so Dr. Phibes wasn't cheesy, he was really scary!

And most of the stuff he did was pretty gross and disgusting, so there's that, although special effects have obviously come a long way since then.  Watching them now, I never realized how much of it was not shown; a lot of it's in your head.  The best scary movies, to me, are still the ones that let your imagination fill in the blanks.

Yeah I can see how the Tongue in cheek aspect may fly over the head of a kid. I didn't see them until earlier this year lol.

Hey, kids my age watched the original Batman TV show with Adam West and thought it was so cool.  And it was.

Tremors is great.

And the sequels are all watchable too. So in that respect it's better than the Jaws series.

Tremors 2 was almost as good as the first IMO.

I saw Tremors 5 recently and whilst it wasn't great - it still wasn't as bad as Jaws 3 or 4

The reviews for Baywatch have been atrocious.  But I still want to see it!

My gf loved it, she went with a few of her friends and said if you go in expecting it to be a dumb comedy then you won't be disappointed.

Alien (1979)

I think part of the reason that people say the dialogue feels so natural is that It seems like Ridley didn't use the best takes and used ones where the actors fumbled slightly.

Brazil. Pretty cool Monty Phyton-esque sci-fi movie, many similarities to 1884 and Blade Runner, but its own thing. Quite over the top sometimes, but I liked it. Kinda interesting how fantasy and reality really blend at times here. 4/5

I was hoping to like Brazil a lot better than I did. A lot of cool ideas, but Its a little too all over the place though for my liking

But I think I will do a re-watch, since I love how it shits all over societies bullshit, which I find very satisfying. and also Kim Greist is a goddess.  :heart

I hadn't see Jaws since I was a kid until last night, and it terrified me as a kid, and I have to say that it has held up well, as both a great film and a terrifying one.

Pirates of the Caribbean - Salazar's Revenge.

Surprisingly good, I really enioyed it! of course some of the action scenes are over the top, like the bank robbery at the beginning, but all in all for the kind of movie it is I really liked it and the final scene gave me fanboish joy  :metal

Also the soundtrack is so iconic by now that I almost hum along like if it were a metal concert, haha!
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Moana

In my opinion, this is Disney at its best. The characters are fantastic. Tamatoa (voiced by Jermaine Clement), has the best villain song since Jafar in Lion King. He's the only villain I can think of that gloats about how great they are while beating up one of the protagonists. "Did your Grandma say listen to your heart, be who you are on the inside. I need 3 words to tear her argument apart. Your granny lied! I'd rather be shiny. Like the treasure from a sunken pirate wreck. Scrub the deck and make it look shiny. I will sparkle like a wealthy woman's neck. Don't ya know." The main villain, Te Ka, doesn't even talk and is friggin' scary. They're not afraid to scare the shit out of children..I love it, Disney.

I like how this movie doesn't treat Moana like a female protagonist that has to prove herself to the men in the film. She's a hero to her people regardless of her gender. I thought that was really refreshing.

Awesome movie.

Whether you're a male or female protagonist - you should just be the hero without making a big deal about it.

Ghostbusters 2016 was literally the worst example of making a big deal of it. It was 100% the entire publicity and marketing thrust.

This movie has 3 female leads ! if you say the movie sucks you're a big sexist !

pssst we just slapped together a shitty film and hoped the publicity and outrage would do the rest but it was still a turkey - so well done all around.

I'm watching Terminator Geni5y5 again.

Eh. I think it's better than Rise of the Machines & Salvation...

Arnie was never an "actor" but he's just fine as a robot and he's charismatic as hell.

I'd rather Arnie be a terminator than a Jason Statham or a Dolph Lundgren etc...

Just a beefcake with no charisma at all. Ironically like Jai Courtney.

Edit : Fin. Enjoyed it more 2nd time. First was at the cinema on release day.

Didn't really like Moana at all. I liked the character Moana, but not the movie she was in.

I liked it. I thought it was very interesting.

I'd agree it's better than Salvation - although I can barely remember anything about that film.  But Rise of the Machines is still a decent film (if you don't compare it to the 2 previous films in the franchise).   Genisyfive is a pretty weak film, regardless of the legacy.

I think the franchise has pretty much died a death now, they've tried to keep it alive by going down two completely different routes (Salvation, Genisys) and neither caught on.  Until someone makes Terminator vs Robocop ( ;D) I think we've seen the last of it.

It was interesting, but I felt like the pacing was really, really strange. I felt like there was no flow to the movie. It was like a whole bunch of scattered thoughts all arranged in a random order.

Ever read the book?  After seeing the movie a few times, we were assigned the book in a class I was taking, and it's... different.  The same story, but the difference really threw me at first.

The Devil's Candy (2015): Really good horror movie. Very well made with good actors who play characters you care about and one very creepy character, very dark and it gets really intense in the last 20 minutes or so. Probably one of the best horror movies I've seen in the last couple of years. From the director of The Loved Ones (2009), another great horror movie.

John Wick - Chapter 2.

Very nice and funny, of course the plot is absolutely ridiculous and over the top but this is not a movie to watch for constraint and belieavable wounds and guns  :D it was a nice roller coaster of adrenaline, also I recognized immediately many of the italian actors used.

Life.

Pretty fun sci/fi thriller. Really stupid sometimes and I called the little twist but it wasn't hard to see it coming. Still, not a bad boredom killer by any means.

I don't think they've run out of ideas. I think the big box office movies are redundant and uninspired, but there are plenty of movie choices out there with original ideas.
