Arrival.

Not what I was expecting, but pretty damned cool.  :tup

Are you copying me?

Yes, but not intentionally.

It's not on tonight but I may go and see Ghost In The Shell...

I want to try and re-watch the Manga version first though.

It's just a nice coincidence we both see it this late within a day of each other. :lol :tup

Truth be told, I wasn't planning to watch it. Last night Mrs. P said she'd like to watch it on VoD and I just wanted to enjoy her company. I wound up liking the movie too.

Same.  $6 eye candy is all I expected it to be.

When going to the movies is half the price, it's just another reminder that Canada is still 20 years behind the US...  :P

I saw 10 Cloverfield Lane.  I thought it was well done, but I was a little disappointed that the ending was more or less what I expected.  And the VERY end was a bit of a ripoff of the end of Stephen King's novella "The Mist" (not the film ending, which was different).

Also, not necessarily movies, but there are two new Dave Chapelle comedy specials on Netflix, and I watched those as well.  LOL  Very good stuff.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I watched a bit of the Amy Schumer special. It was not good.

I finally got around to seeing Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Initially I was disappointed because it looked like a gratuitous CGI fest, but by the end I quite enjoyed it. Didn't expect to see Johnny Depp.

As everyone here knows - my taste in stand up comedians is very specific.

I've tried a lot of those US Comics on Netflix and they're mostly just talking and chucking in gags like anyone chatting to their friends...But they're on stage with a large crowd.

Rewatched Road To Perdition and I really enjoyed it. It's an oddly tightly made movie of it's breadth and the score is just wonderful.

Didn't like it as much as American Beauty.

Just got back from the Lego Batman Movie (it just came out here, because they always released them to coincide with school holidays so we get them way late).
I enjoyed it just as much as the Lego Movie. Hilarious from start to finish, and I loved all of the references and digs at previous Batman/DC movies.

Good to know! the Lego movie was absolutely brillaint and hilarious from start to finish, it's nice to hear that the Batman movie keeps the tone.

Saw 'Life' yesterday, the new space movie. Wasn't what I thought it would be, since I hadn't seen any of the trailers or read what it was about or anything. But I liked it, it was scary, incredibly tense, and just overall well done. It really sticks with you though, I've been thinking about it pretty much non stop since walking out of the theater.

It isn't amazing, and the whole movie is basically an homage to Alien, but it's good, and does what it sets out to do pretty well.

I saw Jaws for the first time just a few months or something ago.

I figured it had been hyped so much, and that I wouldn't think it was that good.

I was wrong. That movie is incredible.

I should not have watched it so young. Quint's death scarred me for life.

Not the gore or anything - just his screaming sounded so believable. Not like most movie screaming where it's just " Arrggggggg ! "

I don't understand how actors can make those sounds when they've nothing to base it off ( i'm guessing ).

Even though it's dubbed on later as well.

The woman at the start - she recorded her screaming in a studio whilst Spielberg poured water on her face

Quint, Robert Shaw was drunk the entire movie. The Indianapolis talk on Orca was completely improvised by him.

I am a jaws junkie. I saw it in the theater in 1976 at 10 years old.  Brilliant movie. People take it as a shocker movie. But its ..

pure brilliance on Speibergs part.

That said we could go days quoting Blazing Saddles, again pure brilliance, and don't get me started on Young Frankenstein, History of the World etc

Jaws 2 is decent but 3 and 4 are god awful.

I think Jaws 3 is worse than 4 though.

No way I would take part 3 any day over part 4

But going back to part 1, I could see how that movie would have freaked out beach goers big time when it was released.

It used to be when I said there was one scene in Jaws I could not watch...

...people always said " oh the head in the boat? "

And I was like " What ?  Errr. No that scene is nothing compared to Quint getting audibly crunched and screaming at the end... "

I can watch it with the sound off no problem.  :lol

Also with the sound off you can notice the rubber teeth bending and the mat that Shaw is lying on and the fact that his machete is in the wrong hand when he goes under :P

Also - if you can't *clearly* see Shaw's face - it's his stunt double.

100% correct. I am a Jaws junkie to a fault. Anything I can read, watch etc. about the movie, the making of it. etc. I still find things from reading that I never knew.

My ex wife and I would test each other on the movie, lol down to the number on the license plate that hooper pulls out, the signs on the harbor masters place etc

The Quint scene took 2 days to film. Robert Shaw was so drunk.

If you watch the scene, as you pointed out, there are continuity issues. From the second Bruce jumps on the boat, they cute away then come back. before they cut away the Orca is almost submerged. They cut back and Quint is not under water and becoming shark food

License plate. what are the first 3 numbers ? What state is it from. Why did speilberg specifically have the plate number and state. It is an homage to Speilbergs favorite movie at the time

LOl true.

and I am with you. I am a movie geek but finding shit in movies like the person drinking a cup of water, the glass of how filled it is can changed several times
