I've recently moved in with the in-laws, they have cable TV and I've lived nowhere that had cable TV since 2010.
I saw the Home Alone movies 6 times the last 3 days.
I wouldn't want somebody with 18 kids to mow my damn lawn, based on a longstanding bias I have against crazy fucks.

Minus the basic plot and villain, but most of the characters are so great that it generally slips by.

Yeah I agree, which shows you just how important good characters are. I also hope the next one has some more meat to it in terms of story since people might be getting out of the honeymoon-phase with these characters by now.

Origin movies always have the task of setting up the characters, and in the case of Guardians of the Galaxy, there were five to set up.  I'm sure the next one will have some more meat to it.

Exodus: Gods and Kings

meh, the movie seriously lacked good character development. The effects and everything were sure as heck impressive and story was good enough and I'm not even comparing it to the Heston version. It was a visual treat at times but felt very empty.

I remember enjoying that one. Not top 10 material or anything, and I could have done without the prophecy stuff in the beginning, but I still liked it a fair bit.

Awful movie. Saw it in Israel, oddly. I think we all came out laughing at how bad it was.

Also just saw Chinatown for the first time. Holy crap. Aside from Jack Nicholson not reacting to anything, what a god damn incredible movie.

I think my issue was that they didn't build up Moses like a leader, they didn't give him enough depth to be relied on as their chosen leader and have thousands of people follow him. At least for me it wasn't that convincing. Ramses wasn't too bad, the actor was actually pretty good and his motivations in the movie came out pretty clear. I unfortunately can't seem to picture John Turturro in that grandiose of a role as the King, for me he's kinda typecast as comic relief and I can't seem him in any other way.

Jim Carrey helps. Tommy Lee Jones is just sort of ..."there"....

Batman & Robin is obviously shit though.

I rewatched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last night. It is so atmospheric and just beautiful. Not really a mindfuck but I can see someone watching for the first time getting lost in what's future and what's past (I was confused when I saw it for the first time). It is philosophical movie in a way, made me think of what we really are.

During my last breakup, I watched Eternal sunshine quite a bit. What a wildly fascinating film and how nice would it be if that service was actually real.

The best scene from the Lethal Weapon movies is the drive thru scene with Joe Pesci. :lol

Fargo is great, too. Another Coen Brothers stroke of brilliance.

The first series of the TV show Fargo is pretty good too.

Only 10 episodes of an hour each so easy to binge watch in two days.

Martin Freeman is in it. And Billy Bob Thornton.

The Fargo show didn't hook me. I think I saw two episodes and then gave up. There was some sort of feeling in every scene that just didn't agree with me and I just felt uncomfortable watching it.

I keep hearing how great it is though so maybe I should give it another try some day.

The Fargo show is one of my favorite series of any TV. Season 2 is flat out amazing, the first season is great as well but the 2nd season is something else.

Hail, Ceasar!

I thought this was a fun movie by the Coen brothers. Great interplay of the scattered stories set in the 50's I think, lots of quirky moments. I really enjoyed it.

I've barely seen any since The Man Who Wasn't There - which i found really boring.

I've seen No Country For Old Men and Intolerable Cruelty and that's it.

Other than that ive seen :

Fargo
Raising Arizona
Hudsucker Proxy
The Big Lebowski
Blood Simple
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

I feel the same. There's really no substance to the movie, though, which is a mark against it but it was just fun to watch.

It's his first proper film, so it's a bit......immature in terms of trying to accomplish too much. That said, it's a really great film. Really great.

Aranofsky was batting 1000, and then he released Noah. I just....don't get it at all. I'm hoping whatever he does next is back on course.

I watched Noah and I hated it so much. Not for any religious reasons. It was just TEDIOUS.

I'm probably in the minority but I love Noah. I don't think I hate any Aronofsky movie. Haven't seen Pi in a while but when I first saw it I remember that movie depicting the feeling of a person having a migraine so well. My favorite of Aronofsky is actually Black Swan. They're all great but this movie even though I hate ballet is a treat to watch with it's depiction of multiple personality disorder.

Finally was able to watch Enemy and man was it amazing. I didn't know it was one of those interpretative movies, it was a great ride throughout and very well made. I really want to watch Arrival before it leaves the theaters. So far all of the movies I've watched of Denis Villeneuve  have been amazing, I expect Arrival and the forthcoming Blade Runner to be the same.

Do you mean just like an intense headache or an ocular migraine with the weird vision ?

I find that episode of Star Trek TNG hard to watch where The Ferengi torture Picard with headaches as you know how horrible it is to have one.

Pi is a cool movie, but I think my definitive Aronofsky film is requiem for a dream. That film is one hell of a ride.

I remember that episode. Season 2, I think. Was that the one where they found the USS Stargazer? I remember the Ferengi using some sort of weird device to cause the headaches...

Yes. And it also gave Picard flashbacks of a mission where he killed the Ferengi Captain's son in self defense.

You could tell from Picard's reactions that they were the really piercing headaches too - the kind where you try to sleep but your pillow feels like a sack of rocks.

I just watched I Robot, and found it very bland. That's what I think of when people say "hollywood movie". Crazy to think, its the same director as The Crow and Dark city. I just kept rolling my eyes the whole time thinking "wow, this is really dumb"

And Will Smith's character's name was Spooner...
