Round 2 Results!!

Scorpion: Kevin Gilbert - Song For A Dead Friend

This is really sad with some pretty dark lyrics. I had never heard of this guy before and i’ll look into his stuff after this roulette for sure. Great voice and pretty good song. 8.5/10

Tyrias: London Grammar - Strong

This was a decent dreamy art pop song. Vocals are easily the highlight here and instrumentally it’s very minimalistic but very pleasant. I quite liked this and it grew on me with more listens. Nice one!8/10

Senecadawg2: Braveyoung - And No Two Walked Together

Okay this was REALLY good. Some great post rock here that sounds very massive. It reminded me of Shadow Of The Colossus (the video game) for some off reason.  8.5/10

Sacul: Dead Can Dance - Amnesia

I can’t get into this band for some reason. Songs separately sound just great but i cant listen to an album from them for some reason. Anyways, this was one of the better songs I’ve heard from them so far. Pretty eerie orchestration here and the vocals just sound painful. It’s decent but I gotta be in a mood. 7.5/10

Rattlehead: Buffalo Springfield - Expecting To Fly

Okay I was NOT expecting this. This is some baroque pop gold from the late 60s. I never quite bothered to check out this band but it looks like i have to asap. This was a huge surprise. 9/10

Zantera: Listener - Not Today

Oh god one of my weak spots. Midwest Emo. The dude sounds like he’s in tears and it just sounds really sad but beautiful. This is the music i tried to make on my second album. (I dont wanna advertise it but if you wanna hear it ask for it in your next submission,it’s just some angsty singer songwriter stuff) But back on track, one of the best tracks so far in this roulette. Very strong climax at the end makes everything hopeful again and it’s just gorgeous. I must look this up right now. 9.5/10

Onno: Frederic Chopin - Funeral March

Damn, taking risks and sending me classical. This was actually quite alright. I just think that the calm middle part dragged a little bit. But as a composition, this is really nice. Sadly I heard couple better songs this round which is why I can’t give a higher score than 7.5/10

Lucien: Paul Winter Consort - Wolf Eyes

Holy shit I thought you had sent me a song from the noise band Wolf Eyes. Anyways this is some really quiet and pretty jazz. Funny thing is i found couple records of Paul Winter for couple bucks a piece couple days back and yes,his stuff is pretty chill and nice to listen to. A bit too laid back for my tastes when it comes to jazz but it’s still some great stuff. 7/10

Tom Bombadil: Tenhi - Huomen

This kinda dragged a bit but it was pretty good. Pretty nice acoustic sounds on this song. But imo it kinda lacked some variety,it was a bit of a pain to listen to for almost 7 minutes. Couple great melodies floating around though. This was okay. 6/10

LieLowTheWantedMan: Red House Painters - Katy’s Song

I knew I’d get a RHP song. I accepted this one because it’s not from Down Colorful Hill. Anyways, this is some excellent sadcore. Just gorgeous vocal melodies from Mark Kozalek. But yeah, the vocals are a bit too high in the mix. But yes, this was a grower just like anything from the genre of slowcore. (If you haven’t heard any slowcore, listen to Low’s song titled “Lullaby” and “Words” in order to get a general idea) Anyways, not much else to say here other than yes, this song is fucking great. 9/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 18
Zantera - 17
Onno - 15.5
Scorpion - 15.5
Rattlehead - 14
Tyrias - 14
Senecadawg - 13.5
Lucien - 12
Sacul - 11.5
Tom Bombadil - 10

LieLowTheWantedMan is still not getting off that temporary throne of his.  Anyways, for the next round just post something short and sweet. Make it under 3 minutes. Bonus points if it's the shortest song i receive! I'll try to be quicker with this round so don't you worry!  :tup

Katy Song was actually the first song I thought about sending, so props to Jordan for going through. I went with Listener instead and that gave me 0.5 points higher, so pretty happy with that. :D

Sorry for the wait but here it is!

Round 3 Results!

Senecadawg2:David Gray - Twilight

You sent me his stuff last roulette as well. I’m still not too into him to be honest with you. He’s an okay Dylan-ish singer songwriter but I don’t know, just can’t get into singer songwriters anymore. (It’s funny because i made singer songwriter music on my first album, second is a bit more experimental rock-ish and improv) But yea the song was alright. 5/10

Zantera:Loma Prieta - Fly By Night

Damn, this was really intense. I really liked the lead that comes in right in the middle of the song. But yeah, this was a really good Converge-y song with a bit of screamo thrown in. I’m sure i’ll like this album. 8/10

Sacul:Janelle Monae - Cold War

Oh cool,I was planning on listening to her stuff anyways. The problem is that the song is slightly over 3 mins… But whatever I won’t make a huge deal of it. The song was pretty decent,i’m not too huge on R&B but this was quite fun to listen to. Didn’t blow me away or anything but she has a pretty nice voice. I’ll look more into her work. 7/10

Tyrias:Arsitidir - Heidin

This had a very Gilmours-esque feel to it which was pretty nice. The vocals were in a language i didn’t understand but i quite liked them. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the work of this band if i look into them. Thanks for the song. 7.5/10

Rattlehead:The Misfits - The Haunting

I’ve always been too lazy to explore this band. I don’t know why but 80s Punk has always been a pain for me to sit through because I’ve already heard Dead Kennedys and i still have yet to find a band that surpasses their music. This is actually a song from their 90s work which was weird to see since nobody really talks about those albums but yeah it was alright. Nothing great or anything but it was the shortest song i actually recieved! So you get two bonus points. 6+2=8/10

LieLowTheWantedMan:Susanne Sundfor - Father Father

Did someone check my rym or last.fm over here? I only heard her most recent album though so I’ll forgive you. To me,Susanne is way better than all those northern art pop artists. Something about her seems really special to me. Her latest album is just great and I’d recommend it to everyone. This song is a bit less synthpop influenced than her newer stuff. Still it sounds incredible and I absolutely NEED to listen to her older stuff. This is fucking brilliant. 9/10

Onno:Chopin - Prelude In E-Minor

The classical pieces continue. This time it’s a very short piano song. This particular recording sounds really personal to me. You can hear the dude breathing and who knows maybe even crying. I’m not too huge on classical music but I really admire when music sounds sincere and real when it comes to emotions. It’s something i always try to include in my own music actually. But yes, that’s why I really liked this piece. 8.5/10

Scorpion:The Dresden Dolls - My Alcoholic Friends

Yeah this was a pretty nice Piano Rock song. I really really liked her vocal delivery. It’s got a really cool vibe. Not much else to say besides that though. Just a pretty nice little song. 7/10

Lucien:Overgrowth Soungtrack - Main Theme

Not much to say about this one really… It sounds pretty and all but i don’t know,i’m not much of a soundtrack person so I don’t get much enjoyment from this stuff. But yeah it’s pretty and stuff.. 4/10

Tom Bombadil:Joe Jackson - Got The Time

I always see this dude’s albums in dollar bins and i actually bought and sold an album of his. (One with the piano on the cover or something i dont remember the name) But wasn’t too huge on that album. This song was quite fun though. Nice touch with the ending! I’ll look for this in the bargain bins for sure. 7.5/10

Rankings!

LieLowTheWantedMan - 27
Zantera - 25
Onno - 24
Scorpion - 22.5
Rattlehead - 22
Tyrias - 21.5
Senecadawg2 - 18.5
Sacul - 18.5
Tom Bombadil - 17.5
Lucien - 16

Holy shit LieLow is doing good. And huge surprise with the classical piece Onno sent this round also! The next round will be a poppy round. Send something that is pretty poppy and fun. (It can also be very experimental yet catchy)
