Unfortunately it seems that Scar is not interested in continuing their roulette. I haven't gotten any response to my posts in their thread or to PMs even though they are actively posting, and some of you passed on a PM you got from Scar about a perceived lack of interest in it (which appears to be mutual) and a wish to stop the roulette. I see no reason why the next person shouldn't get started so I have sent a PM to the next person on the list.

I thought I'd better post here letting you all know so that there was no confusion when the next person started their roulette without any of the current roulettes having properly ended.

If Scar later chooses to continue their roulette they will be able to, but I'm personally not holding my breath.

So did I win Scar's roulette since I'm tied with Scorp but Sacul comes before Scorpion? :neverusethis:

Alright, so this might be a first: I've reached the end of the waiting list. :lol There's a few still in waiting as I'm sure you all know but none of them have informed me that they are ready to begin their roulettes just yet. I suspected that this might happen some time ago so I've already got a few contingency plans that I'd like your input on.

1. If someone not on the waiting list wants to start a roulette without the wait, they can do so right now.
2. If no one wants to do that but there is interest in another roulette being hosted, I can run a mini-roulette and fill in some time until someone else is ready.
3. If people are a bit burnt out on roulettes at the moment, no new roulette will begin immediately; we will wait for someone on the list to be ready or for someone to show interest in option #1.

This seems really interesting. I've been lightly following some roulette's to grasp how they work, but it's still pretty confusing. I read the introduction post and all I got was that roulette's are to know bands better? If that's the case, I may show interest in this.

Sorry for not fully understanding how this works.

roulette short version:
players send the host songs
the host rates the songs (either ranking or scoring, usually)
whoever has the most points at the end wins
and the host gets a ton of cool music to check out (hopefully)

Ah, I think I might understand. That's why there are many rounds.

I guess I will check out other roulette's, but thanks for the info. Parama. :tup

Edit: I read over Home's roulette and I guess I can use this as an opportunity to broaden my tastes....count me in! ^.^

I would actually strongly recommend that you join at least one roulette as a participant before running one yourself. We've had people run roulettes without ever having been a participant before and they're almost always a trainwreck, to the point where the roulette ends up being abandoned and never finished. That happened only a few weeks ago with someone, infact. :-\ It's not an actual rule or anything that someone has to have participated in a roulette before they can run one, but I think it's a better way to go.

425 did an excellent job but he seems to be an exception.

I vote option 3. Well I won't be holding anyone from hosting roulettes ofc, but I probably won't participate for a while.

So I've had 2 Roulettes that did not finish.  One in the final round which I was one point back and another on the second last round I was in the lead by 5 points.  WTFlagnar.  I could have 1 to 2 wins there.

I was killing it with both and you know Tim since you were at the bottom of both roulettes.

Alright, so I want to delete the current list of people waiting at the top but I didn't want to piss anyone off by just going ahead and doing it. I see it as being redundant for the time being, because being at the top would usually allow people to insert themselves into the queue and start when they were ready (since they already spent their time in the actual waiting list). But since there's no waiting list currently, literally anyone could do that, even if they aren't on the top of the list. There would have to be three concurrently running roulettes before the waiting list would even be reinstated. There is no advantage to being on this list at the moment because any user has that ability to just start whenever, so the list is now pointless.

This also allows me to do something I've wanted to do for a while but couldn't: Limit how long someone can sit at the top of the waiting list like this. I wasn't able to do that because I kept no record of when peoples' turns came up and they chose to delay. Some made posts in this thread that I could use as reference, but several people near the top of the list didn't do that, so I don't know how long they've been there. The current drought of roulettes gives me an opportunity to start the list fresh and, when activity increases again and the wait list starts anew, I can keep a record of when people choose to delay.

I was thinking 6 months. Meaning, when there's a waiting list again and someone's turn comes up but they delay, they will wait at the top as usual, but will have to start their roulette within 6 months or be removed from the list entirely. Though I'm open to making it 12 months instead if people prefer that.

6 months is plenty.  If they aren't ready to run one after that amount of time, they can 're-enrol' when they are ready.

I was just thinking that the interest on these seems to have waned.  Current Roulette's are 3+ months in-process, some on the 'waiting list' haven't been around in a long while, multiple roulette's were abandoned mid-stream, and most of those that were scheduled to go ended up deferring their desire.

I hope interest in these picks up again, cuz they're damn fun - as a host, or as a playa.

The only reason I was uncertain about 6 months is because they still have to wait for one of the three running roulettes to enter its final round. If those three roulettes are any combination of new or slow it could be problematic. I'm thinking of amending it to say that you have 6 months to inform me that me you are ready to go; then if it ends up getting to something like 7 or 8 months total passing before they can actually start, it won't matter. But if I haven't heard from that person in those 6 months, they are taken off and have to requeue.

As for the slump we're in, I think it's a combination of factors. A lot of regulars getting burnt out and taking breaks, lack of new people being interested on a consistent basis, and probably the Plug.DJ room.

The last 2 that I was in didn't finish.  I was in the finals for one and in the lead for the other.   I think people need to be full in.  Some take too damn long. That is a big issue.

roulettes have been slow lately because people are really bad at sending songs in a reasonable time. i think tomi's last few rounds have spent over a week each waiting on songs alone

I'll admit that my roulette overran way longer than I expected. I think that was more due to me wanting to give everything a fair listen and also post good write ups for each song. I wanted to do the roulette justice, that just took longer than expected.

Yeah, I should've sent PMs to people earlier... or just start rounds without them :lol
I think both me and Luke made it more important to listen to every song as much times as possible than to have results in just a few days and that's fine. And still, I'm like  when relistening old songs realizing I didn't give song a score it deserves.
