Volbeat Appreciation Thread
« on: February 05, 2015, 04:15:10 AM »
I have searched Volbeat but can't any mention on here of them so apologies if there is already a Volbeat thread.

Anyway........VOLBEAT!!! If you haven't heard them they Danish Metal/Rock/Country band. They have often been described as the perfect mix of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Glenn Danzig and Metallica!! You can hear all these influences on pretty much all of their music. They are also clearly influenced by Social Distortion if any of you guys are fans of these punk legends.

They are fronted by Michael Poulsen and for me it is him that makes this band for me. His voice is just a perfect fit for this music and even though his native tongue is Danish everything about his lyrics and the way he delivers them is just pure gold IMO. Two years ago Rob Caggiano (Formerly of Anthrax) joined their ranks as well. This was around the time when I first heard them and I've gotta say I  100% binged on them. I got all their albums and I still can't pick a favourite. Literally every release has incredible stand out tracks and also tracks I've fallen in love with over time. Now I'm not a fan of Elvis or Johnny Cash but I just love this band and can't think of a band that sounds even close to them. If any of you guys can then please let me know.

I can't recommend these guys enough and if ANY of this has intrigued you then please don't hesitate to check them out. I'll try and link a load of my fave tracks for you guys to check out.

I used to listen alot on Volbeat and really liked the music and his vocals but have to say after a few month I became tired of the Elvis style of singing and now days I basically can't stand them. Sry I don't know I still respect them and they're cool but I don't know, I just don't find them interesting anymore.  :-\

Btw you do know there's a edit button, so you can cramp everything into one post. Just easier to read imo.  :)

I love the hell out of Volbeat, though I can see where they'd wear thin on you. I'm kind of shocked they're as big as they are these days; they get nonstop radio airplay here, and you wouldn't think they'd be the sort of band to break out like that.

Great band with a quite unique sound mainly because of his voice. Catchy songs but a bit one-dimensional.  Saw them live a few weeks ago in my hometown playing for a 15.000 crowd and had a great evening.

I was introduced to Volbeat when the wife and I saw Metallica on the Death Magnetic tour eight years ago. She became an immediate hardcore and bought the catalog, and I found myself really digging them as well. I didn't care for the last album (got a little pop for my tastes), but generally, Volbeat is a killer band.

GReat band, I agree that it can be a little one-dimensional. But I really like them! I hope to see them live one day.

Bumping this one up - don't recall seeing it last year.

I've been a Volbeat fan since 2012.  I always wrote them off as a gimmick band based on the rockabilly styled vocals.  Then they had Iced Earth open for them that year and I saw videos of Jon Schaffer appearing on stage with Volbeat, playing Pool of Booze (what a great title!).  Jon wouldn't endorse a band by playing on stage with them if they were a shitty band, so I checked them out.  I slowly fell in love with them and acquired all of their discs....then Outlaw Gentlemen came out in 2013 and blew me away.  As great as the other albums are, that one is just amazing.  Someone FINALLY wrote a badass metal song about Doc Holliday.  And the rest...those songs are so heavy for them, plus a tune with King Diamond!   :metal

Someday, I'll get a chance to see them live.  I just hasn't worked out for me over the years, but i'm looking forward to them hopefully putting out a big, slamming album again.

Haven't heard these guys in ages but last weekend I went to a party where they played a bunch of Volbeat songs and I got a kick out of hearing them after so long.  :tup

Volbeat - For Evigt (Official Live from Telia Parken 2017) ft. Johan Olsen

Volbeat playing in their hometown with an audience of 10000 danish people singing along, pretty epic!

The new Volbeat album is surprisingly heavy.  Seal the Deal had some decent songs, but Rewind, Replay, Rebound sucked.

This new one is really slamming from start to finish, with only a few of the poppier sounding songs that they've been writing for the last handful of years.  Definitely the best album since Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (which is such a great sound and style for them).

Kudos to Michael for bringing the heavy back to Volbeat.   :metal

Agree with Grappler, this is a huge step up from their last.

And I don't think it's solely because it's heavier while that certainly helps am finding the songs are simply better.

For a style that's this distinct, at 13 songs it still feels a little too long and the Metallica similarities sound even more prominent than before (although that might just be me but regardless never warmed much to it personally), and after the killer opener of Temple Of Ekur the poppier Wait A Minute My Girl bothers me being so soon at track 2 (would've liked a few of the harder songs first), but those are just nit picks at best...

Anyway, Ekur, Stones, The Devil Rages On, Say No More, Heaven's Decent, just some excellent stuff here \m/

I agree the songs are better, but the focus on more heavy songs is what I wanted.

The poppier songs don't turn me off as much on this album as they have on the last two.
