Brand New is as metal as Pink Floyd dude :lol . It's actually alternative rock with post-hardcore and emo. But didn't expect you to like it more than a 6 :P . Sending for thus round will take a while...

I wrote metal? I've meant rock. Too much prog metal this round, so I inserted the word "metal" into everything. :lol

If I make it to the epic round, I'm totally sending Devil Doll.

This is safe to say, since no one else will want to. :lol

dude i might just to spite you

... thought it's not like you can actually send a Devil Doll song in ANY FUCKING OTHER ROUND.

Anyway, will think on this.

Well, Dies Irae is technically divided into a bunch of short tracks, so it's possible to send one of those, even though it would make absolutely no sense out of context.

But honestly Devil Doll barely makes sense in context.

Well, crap. I actually had that very Headspace song set for round 5  :lol Good news though, during 2014 they mentioned being in the process of recording new material a few times, so we can expect another release from them in the (near?) future!

As for Circus Maximus, their albums are all pretty different and I think the vocalist grew between records (Glory of the Empire is from the debut). Each album is strong in its own right.

Expect the next song soon!

I know barely any of the artists being entered too xD
I know Evile mostly via Rock Band, I've heard of Ulver at least, Foo Fighters everyone knows practically, I've heard something from The Tallest Man On Earth before I think, I've heard something Circus Maximus before for sure, that specific Brand New song was in guitar hero at some point, I have heard of Pendragon, I have heard of Steam-Powered Giraffe, aaaand that's about it. 8 artists of 33 and I haven't even heard anything by at least 3 of them  :lol

With all of the usual suspects being on the band list, I'm interested in seeing what people come up with.  I'm still deciding between about four different songs that are pretty different.

Nope, it's alright. I doubt I will get every entry in the next 7-8 hours, and I'm going to sleep then, and then I'll have a working day, so I'm scheduling my first listen at Monday evening, in about ~28 hours from now on.

Ok, after filtering my music library, discovered I had more two-vocalists albums than I'd thought, but narrowed my choices to 5: 2 prog metal songs, 1 avant-garde/experimental, 1 electronic/beat and an eclectic/fun/a la Mr bungle tune. Will send later :lol .

Sent as well! (but you already recieved it I see).

The song I sent is not the best of the album, but it fit the theme of the round the most and is the opening track/single of their latest album. It gives a clear indication of what they offer and what their production is like, I think.

Round 4: Two or more vocalists
Oh, and I recommend you to avoid the usual "beauty and the beast" approach with one brutal growler and one heavenly, beautiful female voice. These songs would fit the theme, true, but I'm not sure if I want to discover more bands like that.

I think I'm gonna take this chance.  Sort of all I got that fits the theme.

Yeah, as I said, no restrictions. Maybe it'll be awesome.

This Pendragon song will grow on me most likely. Anyway, 7.5 mark equals "good", so it's definitely a good song.

Hey guys, it's nearly 48 hours since the round started, I'm going to spin all your songs for the first time right now. It's Monday and the working day was quite exhausting, so I think I'll post my first thoughts tomorrow. That means Scorp, Kade and Sacul still have at least 24 more hours to send, and there's actually no pressure, but if you don't send the song in this timeframe, your song will get less listens than others.

In fact, I would like to finish this round Friday afternoon at the latest, because I won't be around at this weekend at all for a few reasons.

I've got everyone's entries and I'm already through my first listen! Probably the most inconsistent round so far. I knew the theme would be difficult enough, but I wanted to see what you guys will come up with; in the end, some of you managed to find nearly perfect songs for this round, and some of you didn't quite get the right ones. I've got growls, more growls, poppy folk (folky pop?), heavy metal, progressive stuff; lots of different songs. And while some were incredibly awesome, some were... well, not so great.

After the first listen best four songs are at these rankings: 9.5 - 9.5 - 9 - 9

And my least favourite songs are: 4 - 5 - 5.5 - 6.5

But I'm not sure about those four. They may get higher or lower, can't say yet. Anyway, have some of my first thoughts:

Quote from: Evermind
I can’t believe you actually decided to try this one. But I’ve got to say, this is better than I actually expected.

Quote from: Evermind
You know, man, this is outright cheating right here. This album is going straight to the check-it-out-as-soon-as-possible list…

Quote from: Evermind
You sure it’s not an instrumental, right? Oh, alright. Groovy, playful and quirky, I like it.

Quote from: Evermind
The first word here comes off as very Seventh Wonder-ish (think Unbreakable, line “I can see young ones in the park”)

Quote from: Evermind
<...> while I don’t enjoy this song a lot, I acknowledge it’s good and has some appealing parts for me. But you know what the thing was? Those two or more vocalists in the song were supposed to be the main focus, because, well, I wanted to hear good contrast and good usage of vocalists in the song. This song is about everything except vocalists <...>

And this one :rollin

Quote from: Evermind
<...> I never expected someone to send me a song with 8 lead vocalists, 30 backing vocalists, 9 lead guitarists and bunch of other people, and the funniest thing is that I’ve heard about nearly every one of those guys.

I was right, I got a 4

edit: I feel I should clarify, I'm sending in stuff I like a lot and hoping that Evermind will like too but I have past experience showing that what I like doesn't tend to line up too well with what others like and I'm like "cool that's fine let's make fun of myself about that "

just FYI  :lol

brief reminder that Anesthetize is my least favorite song on Fear of a Blank Planet and that I prefer Lorde's debut album over DT12 by a country mile
