RC drones thread
« on: January 26, 2015, 03:57:27 AM »
This is a hobby i'm really thinking about getting into.

Aerial photography:
DJI Inspire 1 - Review

Racing quadcopters:
Quadcopter racing FPV
FPV racing mini copters

All these comes in diffrent prices depending on quality of course. It just looks so damn cool, especially the ones with 3D-glasses. That's som seriously intense racing!

Anyone got experience or knowledge? Please share if so! I'm pretty serious about this but I also don't wanna buy one that's expensive and suck.

These things are pretty cool. Fucking expensive though, and I'd probably only crash it into something and destroy it.

Yea they're pretty damn pricey! Found this buildlog:

How to Build a FPV Racing Quadcopter!

$689 in total! Yea that's pretty hefty but one can dream right!  :lol

These are becoming pretty popular in the RC community. I've been racing/rock crawling with RC trucks for over a decade now. People are starting to get some sick footage with these. Pilots will hover around race tracks and get angles and shots never before possible.

Yea I can imagine that. That's what I think is so cool, the footage you can get. You could get some insane concert footages, that is if you were allowed to film which is a solid no of course. Can you imagine at a festival having these things buzzing aound!  :lol

Here's another cool video I found. Be aware of the racing footage in the end:

I'm pretty certain this will become a legit sport in a couple of years.

That's nothing. Enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9KZ3jgbbmI

Also, you're going to see these fuckers everywhere in a decade. Mark my words. The day will come when athletes wear a transmitter, and a drone will personally follow them around the field.

This thread starts today, and this happens today.

Coincidence?

What I wouldn't give to have been the guy on duty with a Mossberg last night.

I friend of mine has really gotten into these in the last 6 months or so.  Here is the first set of video he edited and posted:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp3LDKJm-Xg&feature=youtu.be

I really dig the song he choose, too.  Seems familiar, but I just can't place it.

^^That's really cool! I have been checking out the DJI Phantom 2 but they're pretty damn expensive. I'm really at the moment into the racing quads and this to me seems like a pretty fair price $350-380 although they don't include transmitter and video googles so yea I don't know...

But man it's tempting!

I have a very personal connection to the video because I grew up not far from that neighborhood, and I actually lived there in college and have been back many, many times since (my wife and I have a few friends that still live there, and we go back to visit them, and to walk around the lake).  Really cool seeing the neighborhood from a completely different perspective.

Yea I can imagine that. I have as of yet not seen or heard any drones over my area but in a few years I imagine that will be standard which also seems like the next evolution in privacy concerns!  :lol Would love to have one though!

Still haven't got myself a drone even though I still want one. The new drone from DJI called Mavic looks really cool and the price $999 seems reasonable even though it's alot of money.

Had a DJI Phantom 2, just sold it last night to my Foreman.  I had fun with it!  My main use was for videography on destination vacations that I could blend with my Underwater Videos.  Problem is, I have 2 UW Cameras as carry-ons, so this was a 3rd carry-on.  I put about $2100 into it about 1.5 yrs ago and was able to sell the rig for $1400.  So, at least it didn't sit in my closet until worthless.  I had fun with it, but honestly got bored a lil after a dozen or so uses.  I was really excited before getting it though.
