If certain songs would appear on another album
« on: December 18, 2014, 05:32:23 PM »
Do you have a song from an album that you put on another album because of various reasons?

To me, i would put In The Name of God on Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence or Systematic Chaos because the production and mixing on those albums are so much better than on Train of Thought. To me the production is bad and the mixing could have been done better. In The Name of God is a great song that deserves a better production. Plus the band sounded alot better on 6DOIT and Systematic i think

Do you have any songs that you would place on another album?

Sacrificed Sons already sounds - to me, at least - like it belongs on Systematic Chaos. I don't know exactly why, but it just has that feel to me.

I would not move ITNOG; it works best as a closing song, and I prefer the final tracks on SDOIT and SC to it. If you want good production, you can always watch the Live at Budokan rendition of the song, which I prefer to the studio version.
Only a prog fan would try to measure how much they enjoy a song by an equation. :lol

Probably because it's heavy, but melodic, and epic, and has a complex section in the middle, and a darker, more minor tone. Yeah, it would fit in pretty well.

Personally, I rather prefer the production of Train of Thought to both of those albums.

But now you mention it, it would be amazing to hear The Glass Prison with the production of Train of Thought... it would sound even more ridiculously heavy and awesome :)

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Swap the first disk of SDOIT with the entire 12 step suite.

Blind Faith goes to Systematic Chaos.
Misunderstood goes to Octavarium.
The Great Debate goes to Black Clouds.
Disappear goes to Train of Thought.

(I don't actually like this idea, but it was the first thing I thought up.)

Take You Not Me, Burning My Soul, Take Away My Pain, and Just Let Me Breathe off of Falling Into Infinity, and move them to the trashcan.

The Great Debate goes to Black Clouds.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The worst song on SDOIT would go well with this mediocre album.

To me, every song is where it belongs. Every album reflects where the band was musically at the time and no songs would work on any other album besides the one that they already appear on.

I think Strange Deja Vu could fit musically on FII because of its catchiness and the groovy riff in the middle.

Realistically, this could only work one way. You couldn't put a song from, say, Octavarium onto Awake, because that would be bending time. You'd have to put an early song onto a later album.

This, I don't even understand this and would never have thought of such a thing in a million years.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
