Frank's fragile daughter is on top.

Anyone?

This is killing me!

Can I ask 2 hints?

Yes

1. Does it involve "About To Crash"?
2. Does it involve Frank Sinatra?

1. Nope
2. Nope

Let me rephrase the clue:

'Petrucci fantasizes about getting a ride from her; "the" fragile San Fernando Valley native.'

What do you get when you fuse the titles of an Awake song and a Metallica song?

Hans Zimmer mixed with DT. (DT reference also on Awake)

James got inspiration for the title of this song by watching this recently finished AMC drama series.

Droids fight off Jedis in 5/8 time.

All I can think of are ones that do with the names of songs I guess :lol

That actually makes more sense. I would've guessed Clone War Inside My Head.

You may think it's blasphemy, but I don't actually do the math on time signatures for every DT song.

WHAT? I thought that was a bannable offense on DTF! :lol Plus that's a short song all in the same time sig, so it's not too hard to figure out. :tup

Sure if you pay attention. I just assume that every DT song has time changes until I happen to take notice or someone points out otherwise.  :lol

That one doesn't require paying attention! It's 2 minutes long and clearly all straight up. I think you need to go to prog school or something. (which actually sounds like it would be a horrible place)

I can honestly say I don't know the time signatures of any DT song.

Or really any song, for that matter.

But that's the problem, it's so short that most of the time it ends before I even bother listening. I just sing along and let my mind wander.

But it doesn't even require conscious thought about it, it's that simple! At the very least it's obviously not in 5/8.

Well, I'm watching cartoons right now, so I can't even recall anything other than the chorus right now. For some reason TTTSTA is forcing itself into my head instead.

Good choice for the first one, but not what I had in mind. And the second one is correct!  :tup

Since no one has gotten either of mine, I will give a few hints.

Quote
Dream Theater decides to write a song about dementia, pop idols, and never-ending cycles geometry.

"dementia, pop idols" refers to an animated film, "never-ending geometry" refers to a lyric from the song Octavarium.

Quote
John Petrucci and Tommy Rogers team up to write a song about a prospective origin story.

BTBAM's Parallax concept is not limited to the EP and LP duo; songs on several of their previous albums tie into the concept (thus the "prospective origin story"). One of these has a title that can be connected with a DT song. My wording of the clue was very deliberate.

But that's the problem, it's so short that most of the time it ends before I even bother listening. I just sing along and let my mind wander.

But it doesn't even require conscious thought about it, it's that simple! At the very least it's obviously not in 5/8.

At the very least, it should be obvious if a song is in simple, compound, or asymmetrical meter simply by listening to it. It is not that difficult to figure out the time signatures from there.
Only a prog fan would try to measure how much they enjoy a song by an equation. :lol

My above answer to Yit Say Jammer's puzzle is also a great clue to mine.

With a bit of online detective work I've come up with the answer; Perfect Blue Sphere Which isn't really a good answer since it doesn't follow the Jeopardy 'before and after' format.

That is correct, though I am confused as to how it does not follow the 'before and after' format. It combines 'Perfect Blue' and 'Perfect Sphere', like the example of "The Glass Joe Prison" in the OP. Am I missing something?

Randaran,

I didn't say it wasn't a good question...I just wasn't confident of my answer. Technically speaking, the Jeopardy 'before and after' would be something like "Picture Perfect Sphere" but there have been plenty of non conventional clues and answers in this thread.

No worries.

Nope you're not missing anything, you got it right!

It can be a tad confusing, because "Before and After" isn't necessarily the best way to describe this game. It would be better suited as something like "Word Combination Game".

I just used Before And After because this is how the Jeopardy game is played.

Nice one!

I was totally on the wrong track there when I asked for the hints. I took "fragile", "on top" and the fact that it was a female and instantly thought about About To Crash. I was thinking of an emotionally fragile female who was on top of the world ("Even though she seems so high....when she falls out of the sky...."), but crashes back down to earth because she's, well, fragile.
