EDIT - Are you sure this isn't the Documentary & Greatest Hits combo that's coming out in March? If so, it's not anything new, music wise, but at least a new doc and a compilation.

Yes, that's exactly what it was.

Ah okay. You got me excited when you said Kansas and I thought they were making a new album (which is predominantly what this thread is for), but it's just another compilation with a documentary. The doc sounds interesting, but I'm not that huge enough of a Kansas fan to seek it out and pre-order the LE version. If it's cheaper later on, perhaps, or if I have enough money to get it when it comes out, I might.

Sorry for the tease.  I saw the 'announcement', and made note of it without reading it thru... I didn't know that it was just a compilation album.  Still... I'm anticipating it, since I'm not a huge Kansas fan - simply due to ignorance, not because I actively don't like them.  Anxiously awaiting Hef's Kansas discography discussion.

After a long hiatus, Thunderstone has gotten back together and it looks like they might put something out in 2015. :eek

I'm really looking forward to Haken.  I haven't paid any attention to who is releasing an album next year, so that's the only band of my favorites that I know is going to release one.

I still have plenty of backcatalogues to go through anyway...

:panicattack:

Wait... who's on the mic?  Altzi, or Rantanen?  As much as I adore Altzi, Rantanen-led Thunderstone is pretty hawt.

Altzi stepped down since he's in Masterplan now. Pasi is back. :hat

I guess that makes sense ... But it's not uncommon to front two bands at once - see Tommy Karevik.

See Neal Morse (who at one time was in Spock's Beard AND Transatlantic, then later on his own band and TA, and now his own band, TA and Flying Colors), Ted Leonard (who is currently in SB, Enchant, and Affector), Roine Stolt (who's been in so many bands, I tend to lose track), and Steven Wilson (see Roine Stolt). Also, Arjen Anthony Lucassen as well.

And maybe, just maybe Flaming Row with Part 2 of their trilogy.

I would probably count on this one. When I talked to Jimmy Keegan, he said all his parts were done for Pts. 2 AND 3, and that Martin had all the music written.

I know, but not having enough time was the reason Altzi himself gave for stepping down from Thunderstone. I guess one band (which is touring) and a bunch of guest spots is enough on the plate for him.

Edit: his own words:

Quote
‘It's with mixed feelings that I and the rest of Thunderstone have decided to part ways. On the one hand I really loved the album ‘Dirt metal’ and feel proud of what we achieved. On the other hand I now realise I wouldn't have had the time that a great band like Thunderstone deserves. I wish the guys a great future.’

Nightwish is the big one for me. With 2 new members and Kai on drums I'm really looking forward to hearing the new elements of the band.
Floor will be interesting, as good as she is, I didn't think her voice was suited to all the old NW material that she performed live.
The prospect of material written for her voice is going to be pretty exciting to hear.

Blind Guardian, they take a lot of time between albums and this one should be another huge epic blockbuster.

Me too.

I should be ready to begin by January, although if we are in a holding pattern due to others not being ready yet, I guess I could start sooner.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

an early/incomplete list:

the biggest being Mew, Hotel of the Laughing Tree and Kaddisfly still, and probably whatever this project Jessy Ribordy and Casey Crescenzo have worked on.

Casey Crescenzo has some new projects going on? I had no idea. Looking forward to them either way, even if they're not directly involved with The Dear Hunter. Everything that guy's been a part of is brilliant.

well the timing of everything may not be certain, but Casey moved to some part of Oregon and Jessy mentioned working with Casey in a live chat a few months ago online.

But I also recall Casey mentioning working on the next The Dear Hunter record and his next Symphony as well; although who knows how many of these things he has been able to do simultaneously. His most recent thing was this tour with Dustin Kensrue of Thrice and some others in a tour called "Where's the Band?" out West in November and December. But hopefully Casey will post something about his and TDH's plans for 2015 soon.

Hoping Grimes releases something in 2015, it was really sad to find out she scrapped her completed album because some d-bags sent her really negative, nasty stuff when she released the single Go.

I agree that I hope she releases something (because she is amazing), but sadly the reality today is that there is more hate than love on the Internet. If you're that sensitive about negative feedback then it might just not be the best career choice. It's awful that the reality is like that, but you kinda just have to stick to your own guns and trust your own instincts. The most negative people are always the most vocal ones for some reason.

Honestly, I completely get where she's coming from, and a lot of the negativity wasn't even feedback, it was just people being real turd nuggets. I'm pretty sensitive too and something like that would make me pull back an album as well.

Anywho, just listened to this song from what's essentially Obscura 2.0 which features Hannes Grossmann, Christian Muenzner, Linus Klausenitzer, Danny Tunker, and Morean. Fucking awesome song and now I can't wait to hear the full album which comes out next year sometime.
