Your Favorite DT Official Music Video?
« on: November 25, 2014, 08:46:42 PM »
Which is your favorite of DT's official music videos?

I didn't include the lyric videos, as I wanted to limit it to the videos which were actually directed and recorded.

I had to choose "Wither". I just love the direction of the video. The slow motion shots of the band warming up, practicing, hanging out with fans, etc. And the big climax with the footage of them at a live show, while JP plays the solo.

My favorite part is the (now-infamous?) shot of MP at the end, waving goodbye. It symbolizes something bigger now, and is a very emotional shot now that he's gone.

As I mentioned in another thread, the slow-motion shots in this video just make the band seem so cool.

Anyway, what is your favorite video? And if you wish to explain why, that'd be great!

Definitely Lie. It's such a cool video, very visually immersive, even if it does have a very 90's vibe.

Also, you forgot The Looking Glass.

Oh wow, don't know how I forgot that. Just added it, thanks for the heads up.

I actually don't like music videos but I went with Pull Me Under because of how important it was to the band's success.

Lie. The entire band just looks so badass, especially JP with his solo at the end.

I have to go with apocalyptic fun flakes on this one. The AROP music video is pretty slick, and the band doesn't look as awkward as in other videos. The Wither one is also really nice.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

MP also looks Hispanic in that video, haha. He may have gotten a tan or something shortly before that. He looks like he belongs in Sepultura or something.

Hahahah! That struck me funny. He definitely looks like he'd fit in perfectly with Sepultura.

I almost forgot about Sepultura. Beneath The Remains is such an amazing album. Definitely my second favorite thrash metal band ever, aside from 80's Metallica.

AROP is definitely my second choice. I wish they didn't have to chop the hell out of the song for the radio edit. It sounds so awkward.

Judging only by the music video, I have to say AROP. That band looks badass in that vid and all the crazy esoteric symbolism adds to the experience, cool visuals like the planets aligning at the start. It's the best out of their vids IMO. But Hollow Years, The Silent Man, Wither and even Constant Motion have some nice direction. Oh, the most recent one The Looking Glass is good too. But it's still as cheesy as almost all music vids.  :lol

Also no offence to anyone, but I always thought the Lie one was pretty boring, not to mention the somewhat nauseating sporadic camera movements. Nothing wrong with it, just never understood it's appeal.  :xbones

Some of the earlier vids like Another Day, Pull Me Under, even Take the Time. They're not BAD, they're just amateurishly average.

I'm not so much a fan of Forsaken and The Enemy inside because they feel somewhat detached from the music. And OTBOA is kinda alright I guess, but also kinda weird with JLBs face all over the buildings. :P

I agree, but I happen to think that about any music video that doesn't actually show the band playing the song. (aside from Gorillaz)
Wither included. It's pretty cool, but anyone could take footage and just splice it together like that, which was what probably happened. It's the best of the 3, but using stock footage of the band still seems a bit lazy. It's always better to see them actually performing the song, even the way they did in PMU, with just someone recording them live.... Actually, that's the best way, if you ask me.

If you ask me, I think more buildings need to have JLB's face on them.

Yeah, the edit chomps it up quite a bit, same with CM. I'm glad they didn't edit OTBOA, because "radio" edits are pretty much obsolete in this day and age for a band like DT.

Ditto. I don't know what people see in it, although the guitar solo is cool. I know DT doesn't have the highest standard of music video, but they have many much better ones.

Well I think they finally realized that. Honestly, between 2009, and 2011, the music industry has learned a lot. Back then they were still going by the old, "Make a music video like it's going to be on TV" thought process. It seems like sometime in late 2010, early 2011 that the whole music industry suddenly realized, "Wait a second. People are watching this stuff on Youtube, not on MTV. We don't need to cater to their restrictions anymore."

AROP without a doubt.  Cool visuals and the music video fits along with the song for the most part.

Worst video might be Wither for me.  It's a song about writers block but the video is filled with a ton of footage of them slowly smiling, practicing, or looking longingly out windows...all in slow motion.

No-one likes the Another Day video? It has JLB throwing the mic-stand down on the floor, IIRC.

I'm watching Five Years in a Livetime with the commentaries right now, and yes, MP does confirm that right before doing the video, he was on his honeymoon in the Caribbean, so yeah, he definitely had a tan, and... Braids, I guess. That does explain a lot.

Because it's not considered an official music video. Might as well ask why BMUBMD isn't on the list.

lol "entire" band?  I think its the only video that features DT as a four piece.

(But yeah, I get it - KM quit by the time of the video so the entire band was only a four piece when it was shot.  Sometimes I hope they'll be a couple quick snipits of KM in the video rocking the keys in a black leather jacket.)
