"Best" Song from "Awake"
« on: November 21, 2014, 03:52:49 PM »
I can't say for sure, but judging by the enthusiastic reactions I've been reading on here, the second set in the band's current live show may be the most popular ever.

The entire SECOND HALF of "Awake!"

As such this poll may be somewhat stressful for some of you, because now you have to pick just ONE!!!

I wanted to vote for Scarred, but I accidentally voted for 6:00 instead, which is actually my least favorite song on Awake.

They played my three favorite songs from Awake this tour, so I was pretty happy.

You probably won't have to worry about it.

Right now it looks like Scarred will be the winner.

Lie - Today's selection.

This. But Awake is an album which doesn't have the highlight for me. It's just a strong album with 11 good songs, some of those are a little lower than others.

There are no clear standouts on Awake as there are on many of their other albums imo, but I'll go with my pal Jaffa and go with CIAW. I really like the concise melodic stuff, along with Innocence Faded, and they're perhaps the only things on the album you could call underrated. But I like everything up to and including The Mirror about the same. :tup

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Voices has always been my favourite from Awake. JPs solo is one of his best and it has some of my favourite vocals and lyrics in a DT song. Those things just elevate it above Scarred for me.

There isn't really a stand-out "best" song on Awake for me. Of all the albums they've ever done, this is perhaps the most balanced in terms of song quality.

But right now I'm going with Scarred.

I always put all of the songs in alphabetical order, unless it's a concept album or a live album.

I was thinking "A Mind Beside Itself" when I put 2-4 where they are, but then I remembered "C" for "Caught, comes after before "A," but "E" for "Erotomania" comes after "C," so I just left it the way way it is, instead of splitting up AMBI.

DONT MAKE ME CHOOSE
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Voices is my choice =)

The whole album is a masterpiece, but I went for Voices since I think it's a formidable combination of outstanding atmospheres - vocals - and lyrics.
