Is Baker Street really a solo?  I always thought of it as more of a lead, especially since its the main melody of the song and never really veers from it.

Oh boy!

If we're going to be this pedantic about it, I'm just after people's favourite parts of rock music that feature one or more saxophones in it.

There are some cool sax solos on Am Universum by Amorphis, but I think my #1 is Porcupine Tree's Don't Hate Me.

When you get down to "lead part played by a solo instrument" instead of just saying "fuck it, it's a solo", you're really splitting hairs, Kev  :rollin

Green Day side project Fox Hot Tubs have a fantastic sax solo on their album courtesy of Jason Freese.

I love the sax in popular songs like The Power of Love (Hewey Lewis), Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel) but my fave is
I don't believe anymore by Icehouse.

There are heaps more, these just came to mind straight away.

Where do The Power of Love or Sledgehammer have a sax solo??
Keep prog alive - see it live!

TesseracT - Calabi-Yau
Riverside - Deprived
Thank You Scientist - Absentee (and there's a sax/trumpet interplay in Carnival that's even cooler <3 )

Aja -- Steely Dan.

I'm not the biggest sax fan out there, but the solo in Tesseract's Calabi-Yau blew my mind when I first heard it.

edit: oh, now I see it has been mentioned a few times already. Oh well. It deserves to be heard.

Oh, and epic sax guy.  :lol

Not a lot of sax solos in my playlist, but I'll go with any Van der Graaf Generator stuff.

Oh yeah, and some Floyd songs like Shine on and Money.

Gong - Master Builder

Also one of my favourite drumming tracks.

Props for Gong!  But the first one that came to my mind was their song The Isle Of Everywhere.
"I don't know nuttin about nuttin" - Marshawn Lynch

branford marsalis did a version of a love supreme that is absolutely fantastic. he used some of the more major modes and made it his own without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the song.
prog sucks

As mentioned earlier,Supertramp' s The Logical Song is one ,but the band featured John A.Helliwell, who could play a mean sax and he played  some superb solo's with the band
Other great sax solo:
Alan Parsons Project-Old and Wise (featuring Mel Collins who produced great sax with King Crimson and Camel)

I love the instrument but can't really say what's my favourite although this being DTF i'll have to say Through Her Eyes alt. version is pure ear candy.

Btw the Saxtuba needs to be a thing again:

How about a contrabass saxophone instead?

Pink Floyd- Money

It's probably the most iconic sax solo in rock music and for good reason. It's an incredible solo.

My mind immediately jumped to Jungleland, probably because it's one of my dad's all-time favorite songs ever. However the nods to Van der Graaf Generator are spot-on too. :hefdaddy
